The Scharnhorst seems to have powerful anti DD shells. I don't get that dmg if I shoot at DDs in my New York. So the Scharnhorst -is strong against dds -is good vs cruisers -is a pyro against BBs -has acceptable AA to counter cruisers -has acceptable concealment -has good armor
Armor is really only acceptable. Thick belt but pretty bad forward armor, meaning angling is harder. You need to abuse the belt by angling a lot harder than usual, or you'll be lolpenned by enemy BBs through the front.

Torpedos have a minimal distance needed to arm, drop too close and they won't detonate.
