Got one of these on my 67 lemans. Glad I found this video
Glad we can help.
Just found this gem of a video (only 3 years late!), and now I'm feeling confident to strip and clean my 1850 Holley. Many thanks from England 👍
lol just bought a new one last night then found this today🙈
Folks, don't forget to remove the idle mixture screws on the front metering block and replace the cork gasket on each side. Set it to 1.5 turns out from lightly seated for initial start up.
Thank you Autorestomod Manic Mechanic Gasoline Media for trying to teach a few weekend mechanics a bit about their carbs. I have overhauled about 200 of these carbs in the last 48 years as well as hundreds of other carbs including 1 and 2 barrel carbs. Best to soak parts in lacquer thinner, but be careful what you breathe and no smoking! I always use high pressure air to blow off all the residue and to clean all the tiny passages. 99% of the holley 4 barrels I've done are from large trucks and have had governors on them. Get yourself a kit and always pull off all the pieces and replace all the gaskets and o-rings.
I used to have a carb JUST like that one. It ran great! so great that my dad took it off my car and put it on his car just to "test it out", then he sold the car....with my carb still on it....
Sharpened popsicle sticks make great gasket scrapers
Nice!
How do you sharpen a popsicle stick?
@@murph2521 I use a file but you could use an angle grinder or a bench grinder.
I have a 1850-1 that's how I found this video haha it's my first carb rebuild on a 1974 Ford f-100 4x4 with a 360 V8 date on carb is December of 1988
Great vid, I've got to clean my motorcycle carbs soon. I've got a bad cold too. Hope you feel better.
brake clean works along with a good rubber tip air gun!
1.97 plus tax a can at wallyworld!
WINNING!
Hey Man, I hope you're doing ok with the flu and all. I like your video and the fact that you're rebuilding an 1850. My 80457 doesn't have external float adjustment, but I have it tuned in just fine on a 302 Ford in a Mercury. Works well even the cold! Thanks. J.
Awesome!
There was a "List 1850-1" I bought one (and still have it in the original box) in June of 1978. I is stamped on the body with the date code as well as marked on the box. Mine is a manual choke.
Nice!
Good video 🖒🔧✌
Your backwards on the float adjust. The nut adjust the float height and the screw holds it in place. When making a float adjust you want to loosen the screw and put a screwdriver under the nut to break the gasket seal so you don't tear the gasket. I have this carb on my 1968 Mustang with a 289. I had a problem on hard accell the engine would act like I was running out of gas. I put a clip on the secondary rod to keep it the opening and no hesitation. I removed the carb and secondary metering block and found plugged jets. Cleaned it out reassembled and fixed.
This is backwards of what your saying... Mines like yours too but when he takes the needle out u can see its a screw head therefore being opposite of our carbs...
You need a shot of moonshine, that'll knock that cold out and clean that carb, lol
Sadly the further along I'd go with the moonshine the less I'd care about the carburetor...
Good video sir ,, ive not taken a four barrel apart .. iam presently working on one just like it .. the carb runs awesome and is pretty clean its just the gaskets are drying out .. and causing external leaking . The External the fule line between prim and secnd is really bad ... at secondary side .. i have a kit to rebuild it ..Ive not got it taken apart .. your video give me a good idea on what to look for ... Thank you .. for your video and service tips... 👍
Oops,,, holly four barrel ...
You are very welcome!
What size jets would be best for a stock chevy 283 in a 2400lb street rod?
Oddly enough, the bit needed to remove the secondary metering block comes in a Holley rebuild kit from “edelbrock”. It’s a multi Holley rebuild kit from AutoZone. Price was like 27 dollars.
You mentioned how a 550cfm would be preferred for Cams stock motor. (Is his a 289 or 302?)
Anyways do you think my 89-92 carb converted 302/5.0 would do better with a 550 over my 600 rebuilt Holley (that is what cam has exactly) in my Modified 1965 Mustang? The motor is basically stock from a grand marquis with dual plane assault intake, storey headers and Holley electric fuel pump.
The flu sux! Hope you get to feeling better.
Oh my heavens, use vinegar. I used it on my Rochester carb and left it swimming in it for a few days and it ripped everything off all the parts. Rust and all.
I have a Holley carb with list-1850-3 with2111 below the
list number on choke housing can some one tell me is it a 600 carb
I like using foil pans like from the 1$ store, cheap and plentiful for cleaning things and not loosing little parts, carbs, pistols, etc etc...
I always have some of them myself. Also look for small scrub brushes and sponges with the rough backs.
What do you think about isopropyl alchol soke to remove the carbon now gaskets are removed. Great video 👍
Wheres more of the rebuild🙏👍
It can possibly work
We'll mine is a -2 and does not have the dist vac port on the side. Should I continue to watch...hmmm?
But the hole is open to the metering block. It would seem like that would be problem with getting proper vacuum.
AMSOIL Power foam works wonders along with brakeclean
I'll have to try that
I have 1 1850-1 holley. They exist.
I need some help! I just rebuilt this same carbeurator and put it on my 302 in my 88 ranger. I can't stab the throttle or it backfires & pops. When it shifts and the rpms drop, it stumbles BAD and if i dont let off & drive like grama it will cough & die!! Should I change main jets?? Since this carb is a bit big for my bone stock 302??
Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/bOJki5u5VdQ/v-deo.html. Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. I might look at timing. Firing order. There are two firing orders for 302 one is the original firing order (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 1965-1983ish), the other the 302 HO or 351 Windsor firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8). Those are places to start. My Holley carb has list number 1850-11. I’m looking for a rebuild kit for it but I can’t find information on it. I heard you mention the different 1850s but didn’t hear 11. Any info helps, thanks.
The -11 is a sub group, but I can only find up to -10 on the carburetor list on-line. I am nearly positive that the standard renew kit will rebuild it. Just make sure that the power valve in the kit and the one on the existing carb are the same.
Does all 1850 Holley has a metal plate with the secondary metering body plate tween the two gaskets
Pretty sure
I have an 1850-1
The build still applies.
I-95 tollbooth...Remember that day? HEHEHEHE
So you said (paraphrasing) 65-66 Mustangs w/ 289, 302... Educate me as to when Ford switched from 289 to 302 because as I remember (the distant past), the 289 continued into the m/y 1967 Mustangs. Fully recognize that there are a lot of 65-66 Fords into which 302s have been transplanted. My poor 1966 had the 200 I-6 with the C4 Auto. Probably a good thing as with any more than that I'd have wrapped around a tree or a pole.
I *think* that 1968 was the first year the mustangs had the 302 as an option
'68 was the first year for the 302 and the last year for the 289.
🇺🇸I own an 1850=11. It is not listed anywhere. I have never found this listing. Weird. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
YOU FEEL BETTER JEFF GET SOME REST AND TACKLE THAT LATER....FEEL BETTER WE'LL JUST WAIT AND......TELL CAM TO LAY OFF THE SAILOR BARS!
it ok to soak it it muriatic acid
keystone cops rebuilding a carb !!!
To much bs poor content same in all there videos
Thanks for the kind words! IT's folks like you that have zero effect on how I do things.
Can’t watch your stuff and the fat kid is suffering
@@jamesrobinson9062 then dont, instead of bitching.
This aint tv, no one is forcing you guy.
Ah you suck help the fat kid lose weight
I like videos that show someone fixing something, even it's not Holley carbs. I have respect for a person who does things. How else does someone learn? Thanks.
