According to the testing I've read about, the new Tamron G2 (second version of the Tamron 28-75) is better than the Sigma 28-70. However, if you look at the Sigma 24-70, it's close, however the 24-70 is more expensive and known to collect a lot of dust. I have the G2 and it is awesome on a full frame camera! I use it on the Sony A7riii. Plus, the new Tamron does have a button on the lens that can be programed to whatever you like. I've programmed mine to switch between AF and manual.
Sigma is sharper, better bokeh, better AF performance... More compact form factor. That tiny bit extra reach is really pretty minimal in real world..... Sigma is the obvious choice, IMO. The Tamron is also a fantastic choice though. The only significant advantage is the better weather sealing.....I never let my gearv really get wet, either way, personally...... I'm sure liked most lenses the sigma can handle the occasional ultra light sprinkle...... When it rains...... Your camera element would get wet anyway..... So.

I’m interested in purchasing the Sigma. I’m sort of sour on the quality of Tamron lenses as I had bought the Tamron 17-28 last year and I didn’t like how loose the zoom was. It would shift on me while I was shooting. And I wasn’t impressed by the build quality either. I ended up returning it. Sigma on the other hand impressed me when I had an APS-C system. I had the 16 and 30mm and those were excellent lenses.
Yeah the print saying made in Japan is very strongly printed in my mind. A branding to buy as it gives a safe sound and prolong quality of use. Go with Sigma😊
if possible , would like to know how it works on apcs body , I might wanna to invest 1 , and even I upgrade my camera to full frame , I'm still able to make use of it
The sigma it’s a bit soft at 70mm. I got mine last week and did some photo test and you need to shoot at f4/f5.6 for get best results when shoot at 70mm. Good video BTW
Thanks for a very compact review. I was planning to purchase tamron because I’m satisfied with the images from my tamron 70-180 mm. Now, I am tempted to get the sigma instead of the tamron considering it’s size and performance similarities.
This lens looks like an awesome minimal travel lens. Another great lens for the a7c is the 35mm f1.8, would be awesome to see your review about it :) I'm also very intrigued about that new Samyang 24mm f1.8!
8:30 Many review assumes Sigma is designed wider, but you mentioned the correct information. Thank you now waiting for Tamron vs Samyang wide angle for APS-C.
Actually, I am planning to sell Tamron one and get this Sigma "C" because of its size and weight to be able to balance it on my M3 gimbal. I can balance Tamron on M3, but it is too stressful for tilt motor, but I guess with Sigma it will be much easier.
Another excellent video! But could you also use youtube chapters? I find them helpful, for example, I might want to skip sample photos and go right the conclusion or summary. I currently have the a6000 and have been considering the Tamron 17-70, given the kit lens limitations. But I am also imagining eventually upgrading my body to the a6600, and when I think of the cost of that body with the Tamron 17-70, I realize I could sell my current gear and get the a7c with the Sigma 28-70. It's hard to resist the siren song of full frame ! I like a small, lightweight kit, but the a7c with Sigma 28-70 would actually weigh less than the a6600 with the Tamron 17-70. I saw your video comparing the a6600 and a7c, and I agree with your conclusion that upgrading lenses is more important than the camera body. But if I am going to buy a mid-range f2.8 zoom, and the APS-C version is around the same cost and weight of a FF lens, then I wonder if I should make the leap now to FF. These decisions give me headaches ! If I am honest with myself, I know that working on composition, and editing skills, and shooting more often, would help much more than buying new gear ;) But when I see what the a7c can do, compared to my a6000, it is very tempting.
Would you please do a comparison between the 2470 sigma the 2870 sigma the new Tamron 28-70 G2 and maybe throw in the the 24 to 105 Sony F4??? Is the f 2.8 going to be better and more beneficial or the additional range of the 24 to 105 compared to those others?

I'm thinking of taking photos and documentary videos in techno clubs and mountains. Is Sigma's waterproof okay?
I appreciate this comparison. It strikes me that with the 'hybrid' intent of Sigma's camera, Sigma would have made the aperture de-clickable on these recent contemporary lenses. The Tamron's 28-75mm focal range too, is more readily imaginable (full-frame, 15-degree increments) 75-30 FOV.
I would rather get an Art Sigma than "C" one for a 200-300 more, because it has wider range from 24mm and up, so I do not have to get another lens for wider shots. But I already own Tamron one, so I am stuck with it.
That might be your preference, but the 24-70 is extremely heavy (almost double the weight of the 28-70)! Not everyone wants to carry around a 835g lens all day, especially if you do photography as a hobby!
I hope Sigma dnt forget about making some good apsc zoom lenses too. They have focuced on FF only recently. A 16-105 f4 or even with variable aperture is so welcome. Also hope they make an apsc version of 100-400mm. It's too heavy on crop bodies.
Really on the fence over aps-c/full. Looking for possible lens options on each and of course you have the comparisons I'm looking for. Appreciate your channel.
Great comparison review. How does the good old 24-70 f4 fair against it? The only reason why I hold back on third party lens is future support ( new camera bodies)
No comparison. The 18105 which I used a lot allows nice low dof, but its distortion is visible especially in OOC jpg, resolution at wide end is only acceptable, wide means about 19 to 20mm, it sucks power due to OSS and large lenses. I still like it but wouldn't recommend it except for video over the Tamron 1770. My 1655 outperforms the 18105 so much it almost hurts my eyes looking at shots with the latter unless you are going for low DOF at full tele.
Hi Arthur, great channel and good review. I already own the 1st gen 28-75mm Tamron, I'm thinking of upgrading to the newly released G2. Would you still go with the Sigma over the Tamron 28-75mm G2? Many thanks

Awesome Arthur! Are you planning to compare the new Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE vs Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN vs Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 DI III RXD? I decided to buy the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 based on your review and I loved it!
can you tell me how the lens behaves when manually focusing? does the focus ring have a linear input like on manual glasses or does it depend on the rotation speed?
Im a Sigma fanboy too, cause i love the 16mm and 56mm for Apsc Cameras. After i switched to fullframe i bought the Tamron 28-75 for my Sony A7iii. Im from Germany and in Germany the Tamron is 150 euro (~190dollar) cheaper. So there is no reason for me to choose the Sigma. Maybe for the small A7c Body the Sigma is the Right Lens. Thx for the nice Videos and Comparison. I love your Channel.
Thank you for all those lens comparison videos. Your info have always been great help. I have a question about the metering that you use on most of your shots. Do you use Spot, Center weight, or multi-matrix metering setting. Thank you.
Are you going to do a review on the new Tamron 150-500 on APS-C? Thinking about picking the Tamron over the Sony 200-600 because of the size, if it's close to the Sony performance wise.
I've wondered about that myself, if I should buy the Sigma for my a6000, so that if I move to full frame (like the a7c) I will already have a good lens for it. But the focal length of the Sigma will be equivalent to 42-105mm, not as useful for everyday shooting. Also, the Sigma doesn't have image stabilization, and the a6000 and a6400 don't have IBIS.
I would like to see Sony 6600 with a Sigma 30mm vs. Sony 7c with this lense. How would be the bokeh or the sharpness. Thank you for your helpful Videos
Arthur, in every review I've seen, they said Tamron at 75mm is sharper than Sigma at 70mm... Your test showed something completely different. How is it really?
Real world photos and charts inside a room are always gonna produce different results. Both videos ive seen people compare in the real world said they look near identical at the long end, maybe the tamron is a tiny bit sharper but the sigma bokeh and sharper in the corners and wider end id take the sigma. Up to you though!
I just pulled the trigger on the 24-70. However, in receiving it seems very heat for my A7C. Now I'm second guessing, I did get it for about $50 more than the 28-70. For that price I figured it was worth it to get the better lens with the wider range. What are your thoughts?
I personally owned 24-70 art for my a7c and ended up selling it with some loss after the new 28-70 news as it was soooo heavy and big for my taste. A7c is all about small and compact and 24-70 art just goes directly against the camera body and I didnt like it. Now I own 28-70 along with 35mm gm, 20 1.8 G, and sigma 65 f2 and those are perfect combos complementing each other very well.
Haven't gotten the chance to put it to use hopefully soon. Thinking about keeping it and then just complimenting it with some small primes and a good strap. What straps do you guy use on your A7C's?
One information in your great video astonished me. You say the Tamron is made in China, either they switched production-location or you took the information from your lens-hood. The Tamron is made in Japan, too. (At least it says so on the lens-body) Just the lens-hood is made in China. Best Regards and thanks for this video
This is funny ;) so they either have to sites where they produce em or they shifted the production-site. I did not mention that I bought it directly in Japan. Maybe that is why Regards
Hi, I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time and congratulations on the always very technical reviews. I own a Sony A7R IIIA and would like to get the sigma 28-70mm f / 2.8 dg dn c. Not being an ART series, the lens is able to "resolve" the 42 mpx sensor in terms of sharpness and detail? Thanks.
Hey Arthur, while I like the way you do the comparison and presentation I noticed a few times that I don't entirely agree on the conclusions. Of course opinions are personal and everyone is entitled to their own but I think in many reviews Sigma comes out "on top" because you carry a tripod around. Can't say for everyone but a humble guess would be not many of us are having either 6500/6600 or tripods with us all the times so no in-body stabilization is a big issue. That's what turned me off from Sigma long ago and I never looked back.
Didn't expect you to do this comparison...great that you did!

Now here's my 3 I'm trying to decide over: Tamron 17-70, Sony G 16-55, and Sigma 28-70
Keep in mind that the Sigma 28-70 is designed for Sony Full frame, so on an APSC camera the focal length will be 42-105.
Yeah. One of full frame.... The other is for APS-C crop sensor..... Apples and oranges
The lack of sealing inside the lens is a more bigger disadvantage for nature photographs as go-around lens.

I just pulled the trigger on the 24-70. However, in receiving it seems very heat for my A7C. Now I'm second guessing, I did get it for about $50 more than the 28-70. For that price I figured it was worth it to get the better lens with the wider range. What are your thoughts?
For me I’ll take the smaller , lighter lens even if that means losing 4mm on the wide end.
Que tal el sigma para la a6700?
Is it so much more expensive to make the lens a standard 24-70?
Do both these lenses work with the cameras built-in lens corrections?
Yes, as far as I can tell.
Appreciate the comparison! Not sure which one I’d pick to be honest. Might come down to price 👍
What do u do with your tamron 28-75. Can I get this lens?
I am selling it.
One information in your great video astonished me. You say the Tamron is made in China, either they switched production-location or you took the information from your lens-hood.
The Tamron is made in Japan, too. (At least it says so on the lens-body)
Just the lens-hood is made in China.
Best Regards and thanks for this video
The lens body and the lens hood are both made in china on mine. Designed in Japan, made in China.
This is funny ;)
so they either have to sites where they produce em or they shifted the production-site.
I did not mention that I bought it directly in Japan. Maybe that is why
Regards
@@ArthurR Mine Tamron body is made in Japan (and designed in Japan). It's hood is from China. I bought it in Poland (EU).
I got a copy of the Tamron 28-75mm that was made in Japan, so there seem to be a few of them out there 😉
Hi, I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time and congratulations on the always very technical reviews. I own a Sony A7R IIIA and would like to get the sigma 28-70mm f / 2.8 dg dn c. Not being an ART series, the lens is able to "resolve" the 42 mpx sensor in terms of sharpness and detail? Thanks.
From what I've read the new G2 version of the Tamron is better.
I Love Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 FE 🙂👍
Is this sigma the same 24-70 that was known for getting dust in it?
I like this Sigma 28-70 because it is shorter than the Tamron and have the zoom ring where is shall be.
Who the hell uses manual focus with an A7III?
Hey Arthur, while I like the way you do the comparison and presentation I noticed a few times that I don't entirely agree on the conclusions. Of course opinions are personal and everyone is entitled to their own but I think in many reviews Sigma comes out "on top" because you carry a tripod around. Can't say for everyone but a humble guess would be not many of us are having either 6500/6600 or tripods with us all the times so no in-body stabilization is a big issue. That's what turned me off from Sigma long ago and I never looked back.
Actually the new Tamron, the G2 is shown to be better than the sigma.
Good review, but you say that if you own the Tamron it isn't worth selling it to get the Sigma...then you say you are changing to the Sigma :-)
