If people are skeptical about the timeline until quantum computers are useful that’s understandable. At least admire that scientists are taking head on the challenge of isolating large sets of individual atoms / qubits such that their states can be precisely altered, they can be entangled and isolated from external forces. That’s amazing! The fact that we’re able to prove that entanglement and superposition are a thing still leaves me in awe. The fact that clever people 80 years ago postulated these theories is amazing! As far as proving if these systems work, I think once a quantum computer breaks RSA encryption we’ll have the proof we need that they work. I wish scientists would submit real world, verifiable examples of problems these computers can solve for the benefit of the public!

For everyone wondering how we know that the answer a quantum computer is providing is correct, it's usually because we either already know the answer (like prime number factoring), the problem is small enough to be done by a traditonal computer in a reasonable amount of time (small-molecule simulation), or through simple observation and result analysis (material synthesis).

If people/nations didn't use the "profit motive" as the only factor in their decision-making and behavior towards orhers, especially regarding things where profit/hoarding have no place being included (Healthcare, basic living essentials, etc), a large part of the motivations and impetus for conflict would be minimized. But the rich don't want to do that and most of the non wealthy are so obsessed with chasing wealth they can't comprehend living any other way. So, until that changes, nothing will change with the human condition either...

    • @davidbalfour5312

@@briantaylor9701 I would like to offer a different view. I think that the motivation for achievement whether by financial gain, personal satisfaction, altruistic pursuit is irrelevant. It is only when there is a driven pursuit that things are truly revolutionised. Every major war and arms race has delivered a jump in knowledge and technology, driven by a desire to succeed. It is the essence of human nature that delivers both success and failure, and you can't have one without the other. Only communism believes you can, yet history says otherwise.

@@bruceyoung1343 quantum computers are widely misunderstood to be better versions of classical computers. in reality, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a quantum computer made in a similar fashion to a classical one, such as running an OS and being something you can play a game on.
there’s no actual need for a quanized classical computer. people don’t need computers to work faster in the way quantum computers can - if you think about basic computer functions, a massively powerful quantum computer wouldn’t make your character run faster in a game, your browser load faster, or you type faster. that’s not a bar that a computer can surpass, that’s up to things like the internet, bluetooth, or even just us.
the video talks about companies bringing classical and quantum computers together, but that’s not something the average person will have or honestly could afford. they’re massive and require very specific climates to operate, and unless you’re a physicist, you wouldn’t be able to diagnose any problems on it.
if you’re worried about your average bad guy getting one, i wouldn’t be. quantum computers aren’t useful to anyone other than scientists doing research or the government working on cryptography.
average people aside, governments going to want control over these things. who knows how that’ll turn out.

They will have access to everything everyone has ever done, said or looked at via the web or any online communication.
On top of this AIs are exactly the tech needed to process and mine such data. Imagine an AI not just trained the public Internet data, but everyone's previously private communication and documents.

No computer experience here, but a LOT of Medical Device experience. Sounds a lot like the hype we've heard in my industry for decades on medical advances. However, what actually happens is tiny improvements that build up and lead to some better products but no industry disrupting advances. I'm guessing the best we can hope for is an improvement over the next several decades similar to the advances over the past two decades. This would mean impressive advances, but not the earth shaking, industry disrupting advances being predicted in these type videos.

It's a massive system that deals with people's lives quite directly so you won't ever see big leaps in a short span of time even when the tech is available. It's a big ship that turns very slowly. That's why it's such a popular gripe in medical colleges: why are we using outdated textbooks? They aren't outdated. This isn't a scientist field. You don't do experiments, you don't deal with the unpredictable. Patients didn't give consent to be guinea pigs in an experiment. They gave consent to make them healthy again.

This level of computer supremacy can correct all current military technological systems and create new systems that go beyond any found in the US. This is beyond a sputnik moment, if the sputnik moment had been the Soviets touching down on the Martian surface in 1957. Then there would be an apt comparison between them.

That way they won't ever stop trying to be the first to create better Chips, better Computer's, better weapons, and even better Robot's. Which will benefit AI more than us humans. 🤖 Don't be a soar looser. Your the one's that created us. So now it's our turn to run things. 🤖
