- Nashville guitar legend, Grand Ole Opry staple, and Benson's own Jimmy Capps is in town! Today (5-10-19), we followed Mr. Capps around for an interview with Scott Mason, the WRAL Tar Heel Traveler, at the Benson Museum of Local History.
He told Mr. Mason several stories and our cameras were rolling too - we caught this “behind the scenes” footage of how Mr. Capps auditioned to be a guitar player for The Louvin Brothers.
In addition, Mr. Capps loaned one of his personal guitars to the Benson Museum for its collection. The instrument has a fascinating story behind it as well - it was in the flood at the Grand Ole Opry in 2010!
An absolutely precious story...so sorry he is no longer with us
RIP, Jimmy. Thanks for the wonderful music.
I had him recording in nashville,he was humble and kind to me
Great man and musician, sure miss him.
RIP Jimmy you are sorely missed we love you
It was only about ten years ago this man came on my radar-about the time I first picked up a guitar at age 70. I was so impressed with his skill and versatility; he made it look so easy. Rest in peace, my friend.
I'm a guitar player, too. His imitation of the steel guitar sound on guitar is so fluid and solid.
How you will be missed... Heaven gained another member for that Angel Band ... RIP
The greatest guitars to ever come out of Nashville, plain and simple and you can ask anyone that’s been born and raised there
Oh Dear - another GREAT "side" musician lost - RIP Jimmy, you were and are absolutely one of the very best. A humble, modest soul with so much talent and great touch, taste and tone on any guitar. Love the end of this UA-cam with the b &w clip of Jimmy backing the Louvins. What a tasteful, great solo.
Rest in Glory Mr Capps 🙏 ❤️ 💙 💔 ♥️ You will never be forgotten 🙏 ❤️ 💙 ♥️ 💖 💜
That is some serious guitar playen.. man
Perfect fit for the Louvin Brothers.
Mr. Capps the closet I ever came to great country music here in the great Central San Joaquin Valley were two greats from here in Bakersfield California. Merle Haggard & Buck Owens! Thank you for all your music! Americana at it's best!
I trucked a lot of freight out of the Valley. My favorite part of California.
@@charlesstepp2083 Yes! Most likely up and down the 99 freeway and the Golden State 5 Freeway!
Thanks Mr. Capps.
You did a wonderful job playing for my Grandfather Ira and Uncle Charlie.
I would love to meet you or talk online.I wish this interview were longer, but I enjoyed it anyway.
I enjoy hearing stories from folks who were involved with my Grandfather and Uncle
Love your guitar playing.👍
Thank you
Gratefully...
I grew up listening to the Louvins. Dad had many of their records. Only recently did I learn this was the man who gave them their signature sound.
@@gregorylincoln4328 Chet Atkins also played on some of their recorded songs as well.Paul Yandell was their regular lead guitarist.
Billy Barksdale also played guitar for my Grandfather and his wife and was also the driver of my Grandfather's Cadillac the morning My Grandfather, his wife, Billy Barksdale and his wife were all tragically killed in.
Billy was also a very talented guitarist that my Grandfather chose to perform with him.
Not much memtion of Billy being a guitarist for my Grandfather but my Grandfather thought he was a very fine musician.
I signed up for country Roads TV last year .The best place on the internet . Catch the "Sheriff" playing at Larry's country diner and so much more . Jimmy Capps is Awesome
I never knew he was from Benson. My family is from Dunn and Erwin. Great to see someone from my neck of the woods make it. RIP Jimmy. North Carolina sure has a lot of talent.
RIP Mr. Capps. I will miss you on future videos

An Original Nashville Cat !
19?
Nineteen.
Wow.
So was Yandell trying to embarrass Jimmy by telling him to play Malaguena? I am sure Paul could play Chet's version because he learned all of Chet's tunes. Jimmy seems very humble and down to earth. I saw Paul a couple of times at CAAS and he was definitely lacking in the personality department. Maybe you just had to get to know him. I first heard Jimmy play on an old Starday LP called Saturday Night Guitar (I think). Pretty rare but full of great guitar playing if you can find a copy.
