Hi Jeff, what a lovely surprise to hear your shout out! Nice of you to think of me. I remember as a kid when we used to pick up mussels and periwinkles. My grandmother would boil them up. Different times then, not so much pollution as there is now. That was a beautiful sunset. The beach is amazing at that time of day. It's as if the sky is on fire. The call of the sea birds coming in to roost for the night. The sea air. Those are things one never tires of. Thank you as always for sharing. Lisa
A great looking camp Jeff, seemed like you had a great time together. Lovely spot as well, don't think I've been down that way. Great vid, and a great advert for the Island bushcraft scene. Wild camping is a lovely pastime isn't it, and it tests your metal as well at times. Really enjoyed watching that Jeff, all the best to you west wight wild campers. Great stuff.
+Isle of Wight Bushcraft Thanks shane we had a great time out there, had a great feast and the seafood was nice, yes wildcamping is great,we have some lovely locations on the island to camp in...atb...jeff.
very cool film.. awesome location as always... i find it interesting how many gentle folk have an interest in CB and HAM RADIO..(myself included...) enjoyed the foraging.. not been brave enough yet for that,,,, cheers.... Ian
Nice trip with great views, as a viewer I enjoyed, hope the other viewers give you a thumbs up will need to view your other videos now. Thanks from a viewer, looking forward to viewing your next video
Love the vids Jeff and I am gonna go wild camping in IOW for the first time next Spring. Im currently looking on ebay for a good tarp , can you recommend to me a good size please. Would 3 m by 4 m be enough? Also I see that some of the cheap ones are just plastic sheeting so do I look for nylon? any advice greatly appreciated
Cheers Chris, the tarp I use is a DD 3.5x2.4 metre, search for DD hammocks and tarps on Amazon and don't forget to get an DD under blanket for the hammock as it is essential for keeping warm, hope this helps...atb...jeff
@@jeffiow Great, thanks. I was just going to use the foam rubber mat with a reflective underside, the same as I use when camping but if you advise the DD under blanket then I will get one
I missed this. Didn`t come up on my subs list oddly enough. Awesome upload mate. Mmmmmm I`d have delved into those winkles, bloomin lovely! Surprised you took the mussels ........ the trotts are no fun at all! :D Another good upload mate.
I had ostrich burgers and kangaroo burgers from Iceland a couple of weeks ago, both for the first time. I much preferred the ostrich! Iceland Frozen Food has been selling a fair bit of these 'exotic' meats of late and very reasonably priced I might add. I like winkles, limpets and cockles - not so keen on mussels; just a taste preference. If all shellfish is well cooked, upset stomachs shouldn't be a worry! You should try eating some seaweeds mate. All good stuff. Great vid :)
+StonecatWales Wayne got his ostrich from iceland also, the shellfish was lovely, never tried seaweed might have to give it a go, thanks for watching...atb.
Try roo again, but make a stew/bourginon out of it, its so lean, but so freakishly tasty if its slowly cooked to soften the grain. . . I never buy beef/lamb or pork anymore. . . Roo and rabbit. . . Outstrip any red meat when it comes to unmarinated flavour. . . A single roo, if you carve it yourself, is like 1/3 of an entire years worth of meat. . .
Being an islander myself I like that area but Hampstead is the best place for me, I live in ryde so I tend to use binstead beach a lot. ..... have done since I was a kid.
Ideally you want to pick your mussels from a rock above sand level to avoid (as much as possible) that gritty sensation you sometimes get from the sand when eating them.
+Alfie's Bushcraftchannel Thankyou alfie, i watched your dads video earlier teaching you bushcraft, you made a very good feather stick, its good that you like wildcamping...atb...jeff.
Ahaha, dont eat filter feeders from the solent. . . Psssht, youll be fine, i used to eat mussels off the rocks in fremantle. . . And i havent died of lead poisoning yet. . . Altho it might explain a few things in hindsight. . .
jeffiow holy shit, as you just responded you get a sub from me my man. . . If your a responder, to be honest i wouldnt mind cross referencing a few bushcraft techniques with you. . . As all foragers understand, its less about knowing a specific breed, and more just understanding a basic biological recognition behind why these animals have developed the way they do, that in turn shapes your understanding of what should be harvested, and what should be left alone. Now i come from australia, so our shoreside 'pickables' have the potential to be incredibly venomous, but knowing why, it very much shapes your knowledge of what to aim for and what to leave alone. . . Yout willingness to just go balls deep and bare handedly grab whatever astounds me, but it also shapes my understanding. . . And i love that. . . Im a little drunk atm, so not entirely sure where i was going with that. . . Either way, its empowering to see others doing something, rather than just sit in front of a screen and whinge about food prices, when there is literally an entire banquet infront of them. . . And that you spend your spare time showing them otherwise, whilst just enhoying yourself. . . Much respect my man
The shores around the uk offer plenty of foragables, mussels, winkles, cockles and of course fish, the only venomous creatures in our waters are jellyfish gobys which have venomoud spines on the dorsal fin...atb...jeff.
+onelonesome boatman (Nene Wild Camper) Lol, its just the way i am, some other you tubers call them my catchphrases, we all film and narrate in different ways...glad you like the vids...atb...jeff.

I've got an electric stove and it doesn't work as well or quickly as your fire pit.
Where is this?
On the Isle of wight on the north west
coast (newtown) right next to a military firing range...atb...jeff
ahhhh! chemTrails ;)
great stuff guys
Nearly all the food you got there is brought from the supermarket. Unless you call foraging going through a supermarket freezer lol
We always take food from the shops but if we can find wild food we will forage it...atb..jeff.
Excellent camp in a superb location Jeff. Cheers........Les
+fepowson It was an epic camp, good company, lovely fire, amazing scenery ...atb...jeff.

Ooooh, ostrich. . . Never eaten ostrich before. . . Hell of a lot darker meat than emu. . .

No problem with red tides?
Boi stop saying that this was a camp more like a bloody holiday from how many bags u took and food
I wonder where on the beach the eclairs were foraged from ;-)
wild camping with a meat holder rack......That's camping with modern conveniences. no wild in that equation.
Nice video. But you need to invest in some adjectives. Not everything is "beautiful". Might I suggest the purchase of a thesaurus.
what is name pllace
Are you related to Bernard Mathews MMMMMMM beautiful stop saying beautiful love the videos
+onelonesome boatman (Nene Wild Camper) Lol, its just the way i am, some other you tubers call them my catchphrases, we all film and narrate in different ways...glad you like the vids...atb...jeff.

Probaly, see you soon viewers...atb...jeff.
Nope it was 1370 times in fact lol!
Almost as many times as he said 'awesome' and 'beautiful'.
Delicious with radiation.
sorry!, but plastic cheese belongs on a campfire cooked burger, yer cheddar gives out too much grease, plastic cheese is the way to go.
Yes, plastic cheese is the best for burgers...atb...jeff.
