Well firstly I am a fan of Messi. I don't care if Argentina has performed at national level or not, has almost nothing to do with Messi per se(like Magnus Carlsen is by far the best chess player in the world, but Norway will never become world champions as a team).
I still have to laugh though when people are now like holding up this Copa America win of Argentina as some sort of confirmation of how good Messi is. Firstly Copa America is not a serious competition, it is a farmers cup. It doesn't even have any format of how often it should be held, it is sometimes even held like back to back, like every year. But in general I think they hold it on average every 2 years or so. It's like a tournament for 10 year old's. It is basically a cup between 2-3 teams, that's it. It's not exactly the Euros or UEFA nations League or Fifa World cup. Argentina having not won it for 28 years is an absolute disgrace and for them to win it now finally is not a success, because else I would want to know what I failure looks like.
