Yes, snobbery and pretension is exactly how I would describe a band that left their home town in Ukraine due to war and essentially toured non-stop for the last 10 years just to barely scrape by and finally get some sort of fame and success. Personally in all seriousness, I haven't given a fuck about heavy music since listening to maiden in high school in the 80s, but Jinjer (pronounced like Ginger, has no meaning, they just liked the sound of it, and could give a fuck if you like it not) made me care about the genre again. They are fantastic musicians, they are progressive death/core, they are much heavier than this song in their other songs. This may not be your cup of tea, but there is nothing snobbish about this band. Period.
Not sure what your tastes are, you say you're a punk, so if hardcore is more your thing, you may enjoy the songs "The Prophecy", or "Sit Stay Rollover". "Teacher, Teacher" is also great, a bit more proggy, but still heavy and aggressive. Good luck. Thanks for the reaction.

I said it SOUNDS pretentious my dude. which it does. Never said THEY were snobby, I have never met them, I assume you have since you said there is nothing snobbish about the band? I also paid them plenty of compliments. But just bc you grew up with a hard life, doesn't mean you wouldn't make pretentious music or act snobby, that is a ridiculous thing to say. I know plenty of impoverished, poor people that are pretentious about art and music, though most are crust punk kids, very few are into metal. I am glad they're safe doing something they love (for real, the Ukraine is not a fun place to grow up from my understanding) but that doesn't mean they don't make that kind of music with that kind of sound or vibe. But you are clearly a fan and very passionate about them so I am glad they reignited your love of heavy music.
I will also check out those other recommendations but if you are worried about my critique not being something you agree with, feel free to not watch. This is a review and reaction channel so I will give my honest reaction, regardless of what the band's or their fans think of it (and I am positive they don't give a shit about what I think either, why would they?). Though I do welcome you to watch and converse with me if you want, I don't block or remove comments that aren't bots and I stand behind what I say. Sincerely, thanks for watching, have a good one

I'm a musician, artist, and creator and I disagree that they're "a musician's band". But this is the exact snobbery and pretentious talk I was referring to. Hell, a lot of the time it isn't the band that's an issue, it's their fans. This music is objectively well made but good is subjective. See Tool and The Deftones as other examples awful bands that have unbearable fans. But either way, thanks for supporting

She came in before this and laid down vocal tracks to go under her. It’s all her though. The growls are 100% her. Check out Perennial live at Wacken to hear her live. Or watch the one take performance of Judgement and Punishment. They’re possibly even better live. This song has the most abrupt transitions. The other songs are better blended. The choice was made given the subject of the song focused on the dual nature of a Pisces. Not one of their songs sound the same. All of them are bad ass musicians 🖤 (I totally don’t get where you hear pretension though. They’re incredibly down to earth.) They’re Ukrainian btw.

That is a rough review bro. I've been a musician (drummer) for almost 33 years now in various types of bands (metal, progressive, stoner, indie rock, etc) and spent my life in rehearsal buildings with several other bands and let me tell you...this band is beyond amazing. They are well trained and very proficient performers and that should not be dissed upon or undermined especially for that brilliant 'bass playing'' you don't care about. Secondly, like it or not, that girl is genuine and honest as she lives her songs and give meaning to them through her performance and undeniable talent. You may not like it and that's fine, but they are an AMAZING band and should be at least respected as such. This generation of music obviously eludes you but you need to accept that music is always evolving and always will and for one, I'm so amazed by some of the musicians that are emerging in this ''my apple computer does all that shit'' industry. If you are a musician you should at least be grateful that some kids are still picking up instruments and want to get creative with them, express themselves artistically and make real music. So for that fact alone I would tell you to go fuck yourself! Respectfully from one musician to an other. KEEP REAL MUSIC ALIVE !!!!!!!

I really like that you despite not being very into the band did notice Tatiana's voice talent, along with the drummer's talent. I usually don't jump to my personal favorite of theirs as a recommendation. Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev is a video that does showcase all of their skills at their best. You did say that you were skeptical of her voice. Like it or not, you'll hear her whole range in that one. I get it though. There is no music out there that is for everyone. @@31TV_TX I'd agree with @Bloviator Magnus. If you have some problems with so called "pretentious" music (if I understand correctly what do you mean) it seems you'll rather prefer Jinjer's older stuff more then newer. Something like "Scissors", "Sit stay rollover", may be "Who's gonna be the one".
In other words, previously the band was more metalcore, now they are more proggy. They add more jazz or reggae vibe in there music (partly because of the changes in there lineup).
I can't say that their new stuff is getting less heavy. E.g. "Pit of consciousness" is probably their heviest song (and in a live in Kiev video you could hear probably deepest female growl ever). But they are mixing the styles and the new song could be partly heavy as hell and partly chill and jazzy, or something else. In the past their music was more raw (but less technical I'd say)

As you said at the beginning, it was an honnest reaction. Tastes are personnal and in some way define who you are. So for me an honnest reaction will always be appreciated.
Maybe Jinjer will never be one of your favorite band, but you may change your mind (or not or partially) if you dig a bit, because this song is not all Jinjer has to offer.
If you state you love the clean /soft part but hate the growls /scream / hard part, then there is no chances you would one day like them. Curiously, someone who like everything about the song and hope all their songs will like it may also not like what else they have to offer.
But it is not your case. The rought part get your attention and from it you understand this band may have something to offer, even you figure it maybe not your taste at the end of the day.
That's beeing said, there is a real possibility you will finally like them more than you may think now. Maybe they will never be on your playlist, but possibly you may enjoy discover what else they have to offer.
Many suggestions had been made, here are mine if it may help you to figure where to dig.
1- Is it her real voice?
Honnest answer: yes and no. They admit they use post production, but also asked which don't?
At one point you will figure her possibilities, and it is amasing. Many see her as a vocal beast and you may end think that too.
For me they produce a specific video to exactly show her vocal possibilities. It wont be your taste, you are warn, but it may answer quickly the answer and after you may be concentrate on the aspect other than figure if it is her voice, effects, etc. Which most people ask at the beginning, just a legitimate question.
The video : Judgement and Punishment Tatiana Shmayluk One take vocal performance.
    2- Similar songs
Pisce is pretty unique, but they have other song I can class in this "category".
    Perennial live at Wacken
Definetly worts a check. By far there huggest crowd. Wacken is a big metal festival and Jinjer cannot dream of crowd like this by themselve.
But you may find how a good performer Tatiana is. The best compliment I read about her was from an old guy who watch shows for over 40 years and figure only one performer he saw is at her level : Jimmy Page.
And of course you will have a good taste of how they sound live.
Who is gonna be the one
Older but one of their most enjoyable live performance. You will soon figure they never sound the same and she is also, mostly, different on all video, a kind of cameleon.
    Teacher Teacher
Also very good. May interest you with the lyrics whoms are written by Tatiana. I always figure it help to carry emotion and beleave when you sing your own words. And she also choose how she sing (clean, scream, growl, belt, etc.)
    3- The hard stuff
    They definetly have.
    Stay sit roll over
You must choose the official video version. They have many great live song. But this one in a warehouse with the dog is a must to see. Also notice the drummer is not the actual.
Pit of consiousness at live at Kiev
They just publish their first live album (Melbourne). But for me Kiev is there best concert. It is the home town of Tatiana and I'm sure it is a part of why this show is so good.
The clean won't impress you, but she then personnify someone in confusion. The official video is beautifull and make understand what is happening, but the Kiev performance is a must for me.
    Cloud Factory
The official video for many reason.
Maybe the last video where they had 2 guitars. Actually you will notice the bass is very present and not accessory. So two member who are not in the band now.
An environnemental song. You may less appreciate but I like it.
Hope it help and ready to watch your next reactions.

I completely understand why you think it's 'snobbery'. The settings and the vibe of this song is kinda different. If you are interested in a more 'straight forward' song of them check out The Prophecy, Sit Stay or Teacher Teacher. And there is more than enough some live stuff where the vocals will make your jaw drop. Have fun man!

I have a few of their songs lined up to check out. So many people get butt hurt when you don't like their favorite band, its wild! But pretty fun too. Takin shit too seriously. Oh well, you'll never please everyone. Thanks for watching, have a good day!

Coming from someone who says they are a "punk rock" dad...I am confused why you don't like this? What do you like if not anything that sounds similar to punk rock?

Sorry I can't see any pretentiousness in anything they were doing. We'll have to agree to disagree. Seem to me to be bringing old grievances with people from long ago so that you can't fully enjoy a great song, a fantastic singer/performer and a very tight and supremely talented band.
