Speaking of colors, this green looks wonderful on you.
Agreed! It makes her eyes pop! 🤩
U
I am sure her closet is well thought out! She always looks great! :)
I badly wanna see her use a warm colored outfit so we can see the difference of how flattering it is to match your undertone. Hope she'll make a video like that.
Agree with you. Black looks you sick
It would be nice if online clothing stores specified if a garment is overall cool or warm since it is hard to rely on monitors.
Omg yes
Thats an amazing idea!
Kettlewell does this!
What would also help is that, looking online for warm or cool colors. For instance, if you're looking for a blue, look up warm blues, and cool blues. A cool blue would be like a cadet blue, a warm blue would be like a sapphire blue. If you find that, print it. Sewing books are a good place to look.
YES!
At 58 yrs old I finally am shopping for my skin tone. Took a lot of years to get it. Thumbs up because this was so helpful. You made it simple.
Thanks 😊💛
Marla Robinso
This is completely unrelated to the video 😅. But your skin looks great 👍
Never too late for a woman to look fabulous. Get it! ❤️
Me too at 43..
I love blues and greens but I’m a warmer neutral. Sea green and turquoise are my favourite colours but I look the best in red and pink. The struggle.
Wear what you love, nothing can beat the inner glow:)
Oh, such a cute comment :)
turquoise and sea green have some yellow in them.
I'm such a huge fan of the forest green jumper and the reddish-orange lip, it looks wonderful!
I don’t know where I saw/learned this color tip, but I’ve never seen it again! The idea is to look at your face in a mirror, in daylight/natural light, then close your eyes and drape your entire face with a color you are interested in. When it’s draped, then open your eyes and quickly pay attention: what do you see first? Your face? Or the color you draped? If you see the color first, it will wear YOU. If you see your face first, the color will flatter. What do you think about this? (It has worked for me, and it allows for such specificity in vetting a color!)
Brilliant advice!!! Will try with my things tomorrow. Thanks a lot!!!
This reminds me of the thing my hairstylist once told me about finding your hair part (esp if you can’t remember when they’ve already sectioned the hair, or if it changes and you’re not sure) she said to close your eyes and tuck your hair behind your ear/brush it out of your face/part it without opening them. Wherever your hand goes is your part and even if you don’t think it is, you’re probably parting your hair here without thinking about it throughout the day anyway.
I’m gonna try this tip you shared bc I’m cool toned and very pale (like, get the first foundation ALL THE WAY to the pale side and that’s probably a shade or two too dark for me, as it has been my whole life) so I only ever wear black bc I just can’t see myself in color. I’ve usually used pink and I feel like that’s a terrible choice. I used to wear white too but now I’m pretty sure I look a bit dead. I’ve recently heard that powder blue could be a good one to try for my complexion, so I can use this to check!
@@rainbomg There is an MUA/influencer named John MacLean here on YT who claims to have the palest skin, and he just might! Check out his channel - he might be helpful in finding good complexion products for you! Plus, he is a lot of fun!
@@judithbrighton3040 well, I’ve been watching his videos and I mean, this is everything I’ve ever needed from a beauty UA-camr and could never find. AMAZIN. THANK YOU! I love him, he is going through every brand I’ve been curious about trying and getting products in the palest shade and doing walk through reviews- it’s like this was made just to make my life easier 💛💛💛
I have heard that many times on line by colour specialists. I think that's the right way.
Everytime I watch your videos it feels like I'm on a fashion class. And you are the best educator 👏
I've found that my skin looks better when I wear the OPPOSITE of my undertone. I have a yellow undertone. I look sickly and almost invisible when I wear beige, some golds, some yellows and reds. My skin looks even, healthy, and peachy, when I wear cool colors blues, teals, greens and cools grays. It's like the cool color makes my warm skin warmer and healthier.
I made a similar observation. My skin is also quite yellow and light. eyes and hair are dark with some gold in them. I thought that yellow, beige and orange were my enemies. Now i realized that this is not true for all of them depending on how 'clear' or 'muddy' they are (i don't know if these age the correct terms). I think the enemy are muddy colours. The clear bold colours also match the contrast of light skin to dark hair. Is your hair dark, too?
Ann G. R. you are confusing sallow skin with warm undertones. You clearly have cool undertones despite sallow skin if the cool tones are flattering and warm colours drain you. If you look terrible in dirty beiges, mustards and orange then you do not have yellow undertone.
@@SueRosalie Thank you for commenting. It is confusing that when trying to identify the undertone, my veins look greenish, and my skin looks much better against gold metal as opposed to silver. So I would guess I have a yellow undertone?
@anng.r.687 your veins are green, and you look best with gold, so that means you are warm undertoned. not necessarily yellow.
it is odd you look best in cool tones. maybe you're actually neutral, lol.
@@anng.r.687 you may have olive skin. Usually, olives looks warm (yellow-greenish skin) because they have a lot of yellow in their skins, but they can be cool undertoned (blue + yellow = Green, so, olive). Any ethnicity can be olive, but It is typically asociated with Mediterranean, Latinamerican, Middle East or South Asían ancestry
I suggest you to look It Up. Figuring out that I have olive skin has helped me a lot with my colors!
This jumper 😍. It really brings out the colour of your eyes x
This was one of the best informational pieces on colour I have seen. After 65 years I am considering how colour affects me both emotionally and physically for the first time and need all the help I can get. Thank you!
Justine!!! One more elegantly structured, crisp video!! Love you!
When you compared the two colours, my mind was blown! Fantastic idea to compare - thank you Justine!
I was depressed as i have a test tomorrow but your smile makes me so happy
I read this comment and felt that someone else feeling like me...in some part of the world...and then I saw the name..fellow Indian...we are all always miserable before tests and exams.. lol...:)
Great video Justine! I've always stayed away from the color yellow because I have cool undertones, but after watching this video I have learned that I should give a cool based yellow a try.
this was actually the best explanation of undertones and color wheel i've ever heard!
This and your warm /cool toned video really helped me in my wardrobe curating. I finally feel like I have a minimalist closet that I love and its all because I now know and can tell the difference between cool and warm and shop smarter. THANK YOU
That dark green top suits your colouring perfectly and makes your eyes pop. Bravo! I know it wasn’t chosen randomly ,but it is a very good example of the point you are trying to illustrate in your video clip

So I just looked at my closet -it's all navy blue, grey, black, and purple. Thank you for this video it is food for thought. I can only remember one time someone complimented on an outfit years ago and it was olive green. I will be on the hunt for better colors!
You make this sound so easy! But my brain is like "whaaat??!" Haha. (And I have watched all of your other videos about colours, undertones etc. ) Thank you for continuing to share!

Hello
Same 😭💔
I am with you. I still don't get it.
Justine: I'm hooked. Thanks for such a generous approach to fashion advice.
Thank you for mentioning about taking garment to daylight and daylight importance!! My friends always think I'm crazy n blind! I'm not, I just can be a better judge if I see it outside! It looks generally very different! Next time they bother me I'm gonna show them this video.
Lighting is everything. I once bought a garment that seemed to exactly match my warmish skintone in the store’s florescent lighting that turned out to actually be a pale purple in my daylight studio. The undertones of daylight also seems to change drastically with the time of the year and your latitude.
You're amazing - you give such helpful and practical advice for those of us who are not knowledgeable about these things. And you do it all so pleasantly and warmly - love your smile! XO
I'm just finding this 3 years later, but thank you!
This video reminded me of this puzzle game for the Iphone called "Blendoku" that I used to play all the time. Each puzzle has a bunch of colors that you have to correctly organize by shade.
Please please please can you do a video focusing on neutral undertones. Everything I can find is warm or cool, but I am very pale and totally neutral (which is strange, I know.) it would just be nice to see a video dedicated to that :)
Kayla Utahna - neutrals can wear either warm or cool colors, individual shades may suite you better than others but you have both warm and cool colors to play with and choose from.
I am with you! I am also neutral.
@@cathhl2440 agree! I find that you can do warm or cool but not to the extreme otherwise it will not look good.
Watch Merriam Style's video on neutral undertones and why they don't really exist. You might not stand out dramatically as being either warm or cool, but probability wise, you likely lean ever so slightly warm or cool, not neutral. That being said, warm and cool colors could both still look good on you.
Dear Justine!
First of all I'm sorry for my English...I really like your videos. One of my favourite when you gave advices for Sierra ( Curvy body type). You're designer and stylist and create smart videos. Especially not just for rich people. It's nice for me, because I'm not be able to purchase big brands. In my opinion is that our soul the most important thing in our life but we can express our soul with our outfit as well.
Thank you so much! 🌷
The dark green sweater accentuates your greenish eyeshadow. I noticed if I dye my hair with a warm brown the redness in my face is much more apparent. Thank you for the excellent video!
Your cool green outfit matches your cool skin tone perfectly. C’est parfait pour vous !
Justine
I’m a hair colorist
I love the way you share your information
Thank you
Great demonstration
You have a big fan on cape cod Massachusetts
Thank you!!
Justine, you are so great at explaining these things in simple, clear language. And you're a joy to listen to!
Thank you ☀️
Could you please give us an example for the outfit with the contrasting popping colour? It would even make a nice video :) Thank you!
gabriellabaka She actually did it in this video! Her top is cool toned and the lipstick is a bright red/Orange! I think it is a perfect example.
It's an interesting coincidence. Today I was arranging my colored pencils according to the color wheel and fell upon your video. You helped me a lot. Thanks it was a great video!
Really good tip to compare colours next to each other. I do this sometimes when comparing makeup colours, never thought to do it with clothes!
color matching is so amazing.
Hi Justine, thanks for another fantastic video. Many years ago, in college, I took a class in color theory - and since then, I've given a lot more thought to color in general and more specifically to color combining. It's so interesting. I really enjoyed and appreciated this video...as always, so good and informative. You're a wonderful teacher, Justine. Thx again, xo, Sue
I love these videos! Your advice is always so clear and helpful.
Rosie B true!!!
I noticed that your lipstick is warm (orange) and your shirt is cool, but they look great together. That little pop of orange just goes. I love to play with color. Today I wore an orange sweater over a blue and black top and a blue skirt, I got many compliments. Loved this video Justine.
I’m sick in bed with a cold and binging on your videos is so enlightening/entertaining/charming. Thank you.
This about popping out is exactly what you did in this video. Green cool jumper, and orange-red vibrant lipstick. Great job😄😉
Dear Justine, thank you for this video on color theory! No matter how long or what angle from you talk about this subject, you always make it interesting and informative. My other favorites are your series about fashion, fashion drawing and the French perspective on fashion and life. I absolutely love all of these videos, they help me to feel balanced (and I have them downloaded and saved to watch FOREVER! :-) Your work is a great inspiration for me and as it looks by the number of your subscribers to many others. Keep it up, please! Thank you!
Its so calming to listen to you speak! And you're the only person who makes all of this understandable and simple so thank you for posting!
Thank you for another fun and informative video! I loved seeing the color progressions. I’ve been playing with paints to help me learn more about color for my hobbies spinning and knitting, and am starting to feel more confident in seeing things like undertones. Hadn’t thought about how it could help me clothing shopping. Unfortunately many if not most clothing stores here in the US lack access to daylight, unless you don’t mind setting off the theft alarms at the door. 😂 Daylight would be so helpful!
That makes good sense as I suit navy but have warm undertones so initially thought blue was out. Pale blue does not suit me. Same with yellows a pale yellow makes me look washed out. Really well done and explained
I revamped my entire wardrobe after watching your videos!! It's crazy how wearing the right shades for one's skin tone can boost one's self confidence. Thank you so much for your amazing video content!!!
You are welcome!
Could you make a video on how to style warm/cool tone outfits? A trend is pastel colours but I feel like I just end up wearing pink and yellow as a warm tone girl.
Nia L yes yes yes!!!
If I may suggest....avoid following trends as they do not suit everyone...instead invest in what suits you best and you will always look good!
I love the jumper and the red lip; they really compliment each other - and you.
these were the most helpful tips of your color videos. thank you!
this lipstick makes you look radiant!!!!!!wow
Can we have some example outfits for cool and warmed toned skin? Seeing examples is always helpful to me.
Thank you so much for taking us deeper into the science of color!
I love how you get to the subject and don't waste time! It's what makes me come back every video :) Helpful, as always.
These skills you explain in your video are just such a life-enhancer...makes you more in control with the knowledge!
So great and informative. Love!
Hey Justine! I am a fan of your lip color collection..I am not a fan of orange shade but in this video, apart from your excellent content, your lip color also stands out! As lip colors can majorly affect your look and you seem to have an excellent taste of it, I would like to suggest you to make a video on how to choose lip colors or how to use them as a efficient tool in dressing up. I would love to know how you choose your pallete as I love all of them. ❤
Excellent video as always! :) And as always I'm having my afternoon coffee while watching this wonderful video. Thanks Justine! It's really useful to know how to choose the right colors. :)
Enjoy your coffee!
Very helpful. I can always tell if a color is right for me by holding it up to my skin, but that doesn't work so well when the color is online. Your comparing to other similar colors tip sounds like a great way to handle colors I can't see in person.
oooohhh I wish in design school we had an instructor like you! 😬 Love your channel.
Brilliant Justine, I am warm and autumn colours suit me really well. I can't seem to wear pastels at all, they just wash me out. OMG when looking at the colours of my clothes, I have just discovered that I have a summer jacket, a spring jacket and a heavy winter jacket all in a shade of Kaki green which I obviously love. Hadn't noticed this before!!! I honestly think I have a bit of a problem with colours and in particular identifying colours, especially green and blue. I hope the colour wheel will help me because I have made some real mistakes when shopping over the years with colour, cut, fit, quality and length, you name it and I have made it. However I have stopped buying 'fast fashion' after watching your videos and looking at what I already have that is a classic style and can go from year to year and season to season. Thanks Eleanor
Didn't know that mixing warm and cool undertones would make a better outfit. Thank you
Who are the 59 people who down voted this?! I’m so thankful for you and your channel to help me learn how to dress better and feel better. Thank you, Justine!
Agree 💯
I have been binge watching all your video’s in the last 24 hours.
Yes, I love the warm toned green on you Justine, your videos are a pleasure to watch and learn, Thank you!!🤗💕
The explanation was very clear. Thank you very much.
Yet I still need to train my eyes to recognise the colours before I'm confident enough to tell it's warm or cool. For this training, I played a colour recognition game on the mobile.
By the way, the shopping centres in Australia rarely have windows for clothes shops. Need a pair of eagle eyes to quickly tell if a colour is warm or cool. 😂
take the watercolors they have for schoolchildren and try to match colors. you will be surprised. One can mix brown for instance, but a nice chestnut brown (not a dark muddy mixture if you did not wash your brush our properly) is not easy to achieve. You will need lots of yellow.
Or of course in a paint program like gimp ;)
I did some paintings (mixing colors) and later tried to mix colors for funiture (DiY) - that really trains your sense of color.
your videos are always so helpful, thank you for teaching us all those fashion hacks! ♥
I realized the power of undertones when I was a bridesmaid and the bride chose a warm mustard yellow colour for our dresses. I looked at myself in the mirror, fully dressed in that long mustardy dress and I was like... wow, I look really nice in this! What sorcery is this? My skin has a warm undertone, of course, and I was aware of that but never fully grasped its impact. Great video!
Watched your undertone videos and several other videos about color match. Now I got my answers on why some of my favorite garments didn't actually looks good on me 😔 Nevermind, time for a better shopping experiences. Thanks for your clear explanations.
I have been watching your videos for awhile, never disappointed
I love you and your videos. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your teaching videos.
Justine- all of your postings are so welcome! I have been following you for quite a while and look forward to each new post. When you used the colour samples you reminded me of the time I studied colour theory with Ati Gropius Johansen. Thank you so much for all the time you put into these informative posts- you are a lovely inspiration, as your approach is viable to women of all ages.
So helpful. Your explanation is so good and clear! Thanks a lot.
Good stuff! Cool undertone leaning towards neutral got it!
Thanks Justine :)
Can't get enough of these videos, really helpful! I always get confused with two different colors and how to tell which one is warm or cool lol
Thank you, this is very helpful. And that green is fabulous on you!
these presentations are very useful Justine. thanks so much
Justine, thank you. You're a great teacher!
youre saving fashion lives. this is helpful for lipstick and makeup too
I never really understood what warm and cool colors were. Thank you for the explanation!
Merci, Justine! Excellent tips on color. Although I've taken many art classes, including color theory, that last tip about adding a touch of the opposite temperature to an outfit to accentuate the colors, is a new one for me. I'm looking forward to trying it out!
very helpful tips for any clothes- traditional or modern!
I always learn something new from you, Justine. Je te remercie de m'enseigner la mode :-).
I've never been able to figure out if I am warm or cool skin toned...at least now I now I am instinctively drawn to the warm cool colors..I don't what that means but it's a start!
Thanks Justine for making fashion and styling a fun endeavour! Repeatedly looking forward to your vids.
Thanks 😗
Can you do color combination video ...? How to mix and match cool and warm colors .. and specially for duskier skin tone .. because I am and it will help me a lot 😄😄😄😄 it's a request 😊
Thank you so much for the link!
your videos on skin undertones are all so useful! thank you Justine!
Justine please do a more detailed video on undertones...please!! For all i learned from your video about undertone..i realized that knkwing one's undertone is the most essential when it comes to dressing oneself. I look more dark when i wear solid pink or solid yellow...whereas solid red or solid blue makes me glow.. I wonder what i am when it comes to undertone..for all my research and venture to find a foundation according to my skintone and undertone i understand that i am neutral but a little bit on the warm side.
This could relate more to the 16 seasons model which features other colour scales (chroma and light/dark) rather than just the hue. It could be because you're a clear season so you suit mostly contrasting, intense colours. I'm a clear spring (bright and warm) and I seem to suit the same colours you mentioned so I would recommend checking that out if you haven't already :)
Love the information I just hope next time just show one or two examples with clothes and colors...the color palettes were great but I need to see it on clothes too. Thank you for all you do...you have helped me a lot.
Justine, I really love all your uploads. I learn a lot and love your positive outlook on life.
I'm already hooked to your videos!
The information is so clear, I will be practicing with my color wheel. Merci!
Justine I love your videos! They are so smart and helpful. Over the last year my wardrobe has gotten a bit un-organised but with the help of videos like this i’m able to slim down what suits me, what doesn’t and I’ve been able to make it much easier to find pieces that match each other giving my more freedom with my clothes. Thank you so much :)
You are welcome 💋
i found your channel yesterday and i’ve been watching your videos on and off since. you simplify the things i’ve been trying to figure out for years. happily subscribed. ❤️❤️
Wonderful and insightful video as always Justine! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video, Justine. Your explanation is very clear and easy to understand. It helps me to recognize some of the "tricky" colors and now I need a little more practice.
Wow, so helpful! Great content Justine! Your originality is praiseworthy!
I love color studies!!!!
It's interesting that until I saw this video, I never knew what my undertone was. But I have tones of orange/red dresses in my wardrobe and I never wear silver jewellery. Now I know why. Thanks Justine.
This concept also applies to when you’re looking for paint colors for your home. Also, my closet is full of gray! LOL I guess I could use a little color :-) thanks for your video.
This is the best I’ve ever seen this explained. Thank you!
For years I was looking for an explanation like this, at last I find it with you. Merci beaucoup Justine. Love your channel. 🙏👌💕
Thank you very much for this Justine! I have warm undertones but I wanted to expand my wardrobe color choices. I've heard long before that the warmer versions of cool colors would suit me. I never knew how to determine the warmer shades of cool colors until now. Thank you for the awesome explanation and demonstration.
Had a color analysis done many years ago. I am cool colors. Helps so much when you shop to know what colors to look for :) Especially liked your tip from another video where you look at the veins in your arm, as well as, color of jewelry. I find that silver is my go to :) Another informative video as always; thanks Justine :)
Awesome video as always!!That color looks beautiful on you!!!Thank you for the video!!🌺
