This is Sweden hosting in 2016 i Stockholm. The guy is the winner from 2015, Måns Zelmerlöw (you reacted to his winning entry "Heroes" with the animated balloon man in the background). The woman is swedish comedian Petra Mede, who hosted Eurovision 3 times (first time alone (2013), with Måns (2016) and this year (2024) with Malin Åkerman). Both Måns and Petra are Eurovision royalty and they are often considered the best Eurovision hosts ever.

For most Europeans, Eurovision is a thing that has been going on long since before they were born. It's just one of those TV spectaculars that happens once a year that we ALL watch - perhaps a little like the Superbowl or the Grammys in America. The thrill is, we know we are all watching exactly the same thing at exactly the same time, in over 40 countries. People who don't speak the same language, don't even eat the same things for breakfast, all reacting in exactly the same way at exactly the same time. Gosh I hope the Eurovision Flashmob 2010 is in this Top 5.
Edward af Sillén created this, the Swedish smorgasbord, and Love Love Peace Peace. He also wrote the script of the hosts of Sweden's hosting in 2013, 2016 and 2024. When people celebrate Måns and Petra for being so funny and great hosts, I think it's always important to mention Edward af Sillén too!
Yes it has really gone on for generations. I was born 1974 and I have a few early memories of watching Eurovision with my family from when I was like four years old. First time I really watched it and fully understood it was 1983, this was also the first time I watched our national selection contest. And since then I have watched it every year. My daughters, who are now 20 and 23, always want family to come together and watch every year.
This was actually hosted in Sweden! Whichever country wins Eurovision gets to host it the next year (Unless they refuse, Ukraine couldn't do it because of the war, for example, so the UK hosted it instead). Also, if you're curious about some of the most important rules: Songs can't be more than 3 minutes long, they must be original, there can only be a maximum of 6 performers on stage, and the winner is chosen by a 50/50 split vote between a televote and a jury: Each country gives ascending points (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12) to their TOP 10 favorites and whoever has the highest score at the end wins it all! (Oh, and you cannot vote for your own country)
What's weird is that Australia is always invited to join EURO VISION. We are so proud of that. Thank U for including us. As we are the Europe of the Southern Hemishere!

Fun fact about this performance: because the part of this performance where they rapped all of the languages that have been spoken in eurovision ever was deemed too challenging to perform live, and the hosts were supposed to lip-sync that part of the performance. But the audio file was lost right before the perfomance, so they had to sing it live for the first time on the actual show.
We're almost on Eurovision time again. Usually Albania picks their song in December. Then January, February and early March is everyone else. All the national selections take weeks.
Embarrassing confession... I started watching this channel many moons ago cus I thought Manz Zelmerlow was one of the hosts! 😂😂 Must have been during a eurovision list! LOL
If you look early contests you can see there are a lot of songs about peace. It was a way more important reason for this contest than any other music contests. It was peace and a way to communicate europe's different cultures. During the cold war there was even a try to hold a similar contest on the east side of the iron wall. Becouse of ESC i have a fairly good knowledge of Europes flags, i know that more languages than italian can be attractive, i know which neighbor will be voting for who, and that until Russias invasion of Ukraine the only democratic voting system in Russia was for the ESC.
