Actually Steve I live in Ontario but have visited St John’s and Newfoundland several times. It is a fascinating province full of friendly people. The approach to the airport from the Atlantic is always interesting. Enjoy the pubs in St John’s and take a hike through the Battery to Signal Hill through the narrows then climb to the top. Then it’s down hill with beautiful vies of the city.

Ever since you decided to book the holiday, Steve and Alicja, I was looking forward to the videos. Travelling with you is always interesting and great fun❤
This video bought back happy memories of a couple of weeks spent working in and around St John's about 30 years ago. Main memories are the welcoming and friendly people there (including a few convivial evenings spent in a dockside bar with the captain of a Canadian coast guard ship), donuts, flying in an American Air Force iceberg survey aircraft and also meeting a couple of lovable Newfoundland dogs. Its a place I would be very happy to return to. Looks like the weather hasn't changed since I was there.
I love a travel day video…just gets me excited for all the adventure videos to come! And, knowing that there will be more than usual content coming is a delightful bonus! Looking forward to it all! Cheers, and ATB!

I can also recommend the Premier Inn at Gatwick, I paid less than £145 the last time I stayed there, but hotel prices seem to have increased a lot in the last 2 years.
Steve I worked at Gatwick years ago and was there for 5 years. Your video was great same high standards as usual and you both compliment each other and makes the video funny.
Lets face it, you just nail these every time. I was full of excitement for your trip and to be with you for the outward journey was so good. I love your travel day videos. That Yotel would not be for me. Contrast this with a great room for your stay! St Johns looks like my kind of place.

What a great short flight! For us its 12 hours from Vancouver, BC to Gatwick! I loved your coverage of Montrose - St. John. All very interesting. Loved the spare room in Alecja’s bag to pick up “ stuff” ! Your the only ones who make travel today interesting even when its not! 🇨🇦
We took a 16 nt. Canada/Greenland (out of NYC) cruise back in August 2022, with ports of call in Halifax, Sydney and several place in Greenland, but St. John's, Newfoundland was our final and favorite port of call. The people were so incredibly warm and friendly, and the town was so pretty and quaint, yet vibrant, lively and with very contemporary sensibilities. We said at the time that we would love to get back there again someday soon -- and we hope to...
I hope you had a fantastic time in my hometown/-province! Originally a fish merchant's warehouse, the Murray Premises was renovated and re-opened in late 1979 as a somewhat posh shopping arcade with some specialty stores and a few fairly high-end boutiques as well as a couple of great restaurants. The hotel first opened in the 1990s, and seems to have taken over more and more of the property.
New Foundland! I have wanted to visit the Maritimes since I wrote school report when I was 10 (I am 73 now😂). Then read The Shipping News. I am overjoyed to travel along with you on this adventure. Thank you guys!!

Hi Steve, this was a wonderful video with so many different things going on making for a very interesting video. Can't wait to see your continued trip in more videos. Thank you both for a great video! 😁👍
Am anxious every time I fly as well. Not because of the flying part, but because of the airline part. Imagine you have a super disorganized, inept and extremely malevolent/greedy cousin - and you HAD to rely on him. THAT is what dealing with an airline is like. Full stop !!
you guys are just a notch above the rest for these kinds of vids.. Really!! even have close ups of what your eating!! Im hooked.. did I mention before ? What a great chemistry you two have..
Looking forward to the Canadian series! I wouldn't go to a Yotel after watching this, rather take my chances elsewhere haha. Love the fact that as soon as you've landed, you're greeted by typical Canadian hospitality, hopefully I'll get to experience that someday. :)
Yotel is a discount trendy chain. While they're not five-star, they're fine for what they promise to provide. That awkward bathroom is part of the allure--they had the same arrangement in their Washington DC property. Just make sure if you are sharing the room with someone, that someone is fine with you showing off all the human being stuff we all have to do. I think Yotel is probably better experienced as a single traveler...
In my experience, the Yotel can be more expensive than some of the proper hotels on site, there is a Travelodge just off site from the north terminal that is normally the cheapest, about 5 minutes walk. The Yotel is handy if you have a long transfer and just want 4 or 5 hours sleep or a shower.
That Gatwick hotel might have been convenient but you’d have had plenty of time to head down on the train from Gatwick to Horsham to grab a hotel which would have probably been cheaper, gotten you a proper size room and definitely had more easy access to the pub! Look forward to seeing the rest of this trip.
Really enjoyed this one Steve. Hi Alicja! That Gatwick "capsule" room was something else! Great getting a lift to your St. John's hotel, which looks good. The harbour area/ views looked fantastic, & looking forward to future videos! Have a great time, both. 😊 👍
Crazy that your flight from Aberdeen to Gatwick was less expensive than a night in that Yotel. The Canadian welcome you received by that couple offering you a ride reminded me of the kindness I have experienced from people in Scotland, and I'm Canadian of Scottish decent. The east coast of Canada (Maritimes) still retains much of the old country norms and values. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it!
Steve, your wife is delightful. I love it when you include her in your videos… and you’ve captured all the things in this video that we all dislike, especially with trans-Atlantic flights. I live in Northern California. It takes us all day to go from San Francisco to London to Edinburgh. By that I more than 24 hours including the flight changes, security and other wait times. .
Tnanks Steve and Alycja for an extremely interesting video. Oddly.on the question of prices, the price which really shook me was £12.50 each for the train from Montrose to Aberdeen. And I compare that with the fact that Scots residents under 22 or over 60 could make the same journey BY BUS FOR FREE
LNER do operate on the route a few times a day as part of their London to Aberdeen route . I know on many journeys within Scotland LNER are often cheaper than ScotRail. I'll have to see if this is the case on this exact route.
@@nicolad8822 Stagecoach X7 Dundee-Aberdeen runs hourly seven days a week. For the 37 miles from Montrose to Aberdeen it takes 84 minutes. Sorry, but I do not know the fare paid by passengers not eligible for free travel. In England but not Scotland, there is currently a central government funded £2 pound flat single fare on most bus routes. That means, for example, anybody can go BY BUS the 38 miles from York to Scarborough for just two pounds single. (A return journey will be £4.).
Wow.. just wow...tho' you went up to arrivals to go back down to the yotel!! The Max allows direct flights so no transit ...shepherds pie or fish pie work well on flights!!! The fare was quite a lot tho? Considering not much further than to the Canaries?
Hi Steve and Alicja. Lovely to see you doing some international travel together. Looking forward to the coming videos. The Yotel was a real rip-off. Should have gone 15 mins to Croydon and got a decent Premier inn or Travelodge which would have been cheaper and nicer! All the best guys.
Fan blades are slightly loosely mounted so clank when the engine is windmilling.Once it starts up centrifugal force takes over and it quietens down....Unless it swallows some seagulls and begins to eat itself.✈️🙂
Wonderful video. So much fun when Steve and Alicja are together. Going to be a great trip. I will definitely avoid Yotel - surprised a proper hotel wasn't available at a similar price. Presume Westjet food was complimentary but it didn't look great especially for a flight costing £560 return. Love Alicja's humour: What do these ships even do? Shipping!
Finally took the time to subscribe. Far and away, best travel videos on UA-cam! I hope your views and subscriptions continue to grow. Both of you are an absolute pleasure! Best of luck in all things.
@@steve-marsh As an old (very old) American, I could see many places in my country you and Alicja would enjoy, but you would be hard pressed to find folks as welcoming and kind as you find in Canada. One of my personal regrets is that I haven't spent more time there. I appreciate the window to the world you provide. Found your brief travels to the Nordic nations to be very interesting. Hope you make it back there soon. Moldova? Eh, not so much. :) I wish you every success.
Another excellent video. The Shearwater owned ship in the harbour (Amazon Conqueror) is a seismic survey vessel. It tows measuring cables behind it (called streamers) which analyse the seabed to locate possible oil and gas deposits. Kopit Hopson 1752 is a light icebreaker and buoy tender operated by the Canadian coastguard. It was one of the ships involved in searching for the Titan submersible back in 2023.
Steve ,you need to have Alicia in most of your future videos. She is just so much fun,and funny. I know that I would not be very happy with a 5 or 6 hour flight on a 737. Unless it was too good of a price.
Well Steve & Alijca just watched your fantastic travel video to St.Johns ( tea & biscuits included 😋) you are both so great together & i really laughed out loud when Alijca walked into one of the other passengers when boarding the easy Jet flight!! It was also good you were showing us the price of each transport & accommodation as you went along aswell at the end👍 so looking forward to the next part of your adventure in Canada 🇨🇦

The east coast of Canada (Maritimes) still retains much of the old country norms and values. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it!
It sure is! :)
Steve, your wife is delightful. I love it when you include her in your videos… and you’ve captured all the things in this video that we all dislike, especially with trans-Atlantic flights. I live in Northern California. It takes us all day to go from San Francisco to London to Edinburgh. By that I more than 24 hours including the flight changes, security and other wait times. .
Always the gentleman taking the middle seat! Well on the first flight at least 😂
Welcome back to Canada!
I enjoyed seeing a bit of Scottland from the bus.
That reminds me to get an over 50s pass!
That doesn’t seem that bad to me!
How long does it take on the bus?
@@nicolad8822 Stagecoach X7 Dundee-Aberdeen runs hourly seven days a week. For the 37 miles from Montrose to Aberdeen it takes 84 minutes. Sorry, but I do not know the fare paid by passengers not eligible for free travel. In England but not Scotland, there is currently a central government funded £2 pound flat single fare on most bus routes. That means, for example, anybody can go BY BUS the 38 miles from York to Scarborough for just two pounds single. (A return journey will be £4.).
Really looking forward to this adventure. You make travel look so easy. Thanks for sharing.
I've never heard of that bloke who's apparently "youtube royalty". I don't think so Steve, that's a position I reserve for you. So there.
Seconded
This is very interesting and excellent
Wow.. just wow...tho' you went up to arrivals to go back down to the yotel!! The Max allows direct flights so no transit ...shepherds pie or fish pie work well on flights!!! The fare was quite a lot tho? Considering not much further than to the Canaries?
Hey good point! Fantastic airline, but still, it's a pricey flight!
Loved seeing Aberdeen again❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks.
Yeah, we were just intrigued to try it, but never again!
The Premier Inn a joining the North Terminal is usually less than £100, even last minute.
Great to see you heading to the wonderful province of Newfoundland!
Bloody hell!! That left wing engine on your Easy Jet flight didn't sound too healthy!
That’s normal. It sounds bad but it’s just the fan blades turning in the wind. It’s called windmilling.
@@DanTheCaptainthanks for that. I'm a terrible flyer, that would have scared the bejaysus out of me!!
Perfectly normal when it`s windmilling like that.
Shipping!
Those track pants Alicja has on would attract some attention here in Australia 😂
I wasn't staring I was just, err, reading....
Roots is a popular brand of athletic/leisure clothes in Canada. Many of us know what 'root' means in Australia.
Finally took the time to subscribe. Far and away, best travel videos on UA-cam! I hope your views and subscriptions continue to grow. Both of you are an absolute pleasure! Best of luck in all things.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your sub and the kind words!
I wish you every success.
I am really looking forward to this, sitting here in my house in Nova Scotia. My husband has been to Newfoundland but I haven’t, yet.
Canada is a place I have always wanted to go
Great video Steve and Alicia
Really enjoying your videos guy's. Informative and honest.
Cheers for the info!
My wife used to make this journey every few months to visit (before her immigration was sorted). It's a heck of a journey to get to Newfoundland.
Always enjoy your videos, but I’m excited for these, as we are headed to Newfoundland in a couple weeks. Looking forward to the next ones, and thanks for sharing!
You will have much better weather here than Steve did 🙂
