The Dream Journey - Discovering musicians across Pakistan (A Non Profit Project)
A film about an exhilarating eight day journey of five friends with a shared passion for discovering and recording musicians in their living environments across Pakistan.
The six sessions of vocal music recorded and filmed cover several musical forms in the Indo Pakistani tradition; Thumri, Kaafi, Ghazal, Qawwali and Khyaal. The kalaams that the musicians drew from ranged the whole spectrum of great poets: Khusrau, Jalal ud din Rumi, Kabir, Baba Bulleh Shah, Waris Shah, Iqbal, Faiz and numerous mystic poets of India and Pakistan. The performances evoked memories of the verdant lushness of the Punjab, the haunting mysticism of the Great Rajputana and Sind Deserts, the vibrancy of Hazrat Nizamuddin’s Delhi, the great aura of Ajmer, the majestic beauty of the Indo-Gangetic plain.
Some of the musicians are established and famous, others are amongst the brilliant budding talent that adorns Pakistan’s musical scene. Each of the mehfils has a distinct atmosphere and mood, but there is a common thread. We asked each of the musicians to stay close to their respective inherited musical traditions, allowing the singers an opportunity to present some pieces that are rarely heard today.
We are inspired to present the brilliance of this contemporary Pakistani vocal music to a wider audience and seek your financial assistance in making this possible.

Made me feel nostalgic remembering the times when I was middle-aged and young Amir sahib would sing along-with his masterly & incomparable father Late ustad Rafiq sahib.
The Dream Journey is doing a wonderful job for which they cannot be thanked enough. Please keep Up this priceless work for posterity

Looking at that young kid in this version made me beyond happy. His innocence and energy is palpable. I hope he carries on the legacy.

How nostalgic!!! I'm an early bird subscribing this channel. back in 2016, I was an internee in a company and had been having talks with Arif sb for his initiative.
They produced a masterpiece "Saanchi kaho mose batian" by Ustad Ameer Ali khan. must listen.
Later came to know sad demise of Ustad Ameer Ali Khan. :(
Now in 2024, recalling those memories.

This is my favourite recording from tour wonderful dream journey offering. It's also a thoughtful addition to have English subtitles, yet I'm not sure how much westerners would relate to the metaphors.
Thank you Tahir. More than Westerners the translation is useful for other regional Pakistanis who only understand part of it. Also useful for the younger diaspora.
The Dream Journey And also for Nepalis like myself and other people from the subcontinent who can halfway understand the languages but the translations provide a lot of depth and mithaas. Really appreciate the work you guys put in. 😇 God bless and hopefully Ustad Khan ji’s soul finds peace.
These metaphors are comparable and sometimes intelligible within a wider Islamic tradition of poetry writing, these translations are a miraculous gift for those like myself who don’t know south Asian languages (from Iran-Iraq region) again jazakullah dream journey and all the work you have done.

I still remember telling khan sahab that i loved this abdul hameed adam verse " dunia tery wajood ko karti rahi talash... Hum nay tery khayal ko yazdaan bana lia " and he remembered it

enchanting but a side thought when we see the video and guess about the worldly things about Khan Sahib while looking at the wall behind I feel the importance of reviewing the policy of GOI not to permit such musicians to perform in India because this music is not a heritage only Pakistan but north and west part of this continent we in India have equal claim on being a fan and love and being enchanted. Once again I can only say to Dream Journey Thanks Shukriya Dhanyavad me aapne jo hum tak pahunchaya hai uske liye ye sabhi words bahut hi nakafi hain.

I wish I could talk to Khan Sahab and ask how he sees the world. What's his perception of the point in living is. How he dives into the ocean of esctasy and how it feels after every Sur of perfection he produces. His voice is so sweet that it kills the heartache but still produces some.
