Greatest challenge til date, has been establishing an equitable bridge between the diaspora and those of us stationed on the ground (Africa), that can positively impact leadership reform.

I've lived in Europe & I fully understand what the white guy is talking about. Most Africans here looked the comparison pictures as an insult but is not the case..He even said it that Europe was designed to cram up people in Apartments to make heating, amenities accessible to all & affordable to most. The picture of Africa he's showing depicts tropical paradise with magnificent weather they all yearn for...And true to his word I kept asking Europeans how they managed to survive in that brutal climate when they were not industrialized. In Africa a poor person doesn't need heating at all, fruits & wild vegetables grow by themselves all year round. Ordinary Europeans live very stressful lives where they're subjected to work like dogs just to afford a must pay bills...Homelessness is not even an option as the weather itself can kill you..
Europeans found themselves in a horrible & hostile environment that required them to constantly think & think of solutions towards making their survival conducive all the time. In retrospect living in Africa doesn't require much brain work, climate is so easy. Trust me, if Africa ever develops & modernize brace for unprecedented illegal European migration to our shores. This is definitely inevitable as time roll by in the coming centuries..

I think in this point of human history, there's nothing bad to sign deals with foreign companies for mining rights and other developmental projects. However, it is a very very bad for the African governments to sign deals without transfer of technology as part of the deal. It is awful to have deals where it doesn't involve full processing of the crude materials in Africa. It is stupid to sign road construction deals that involve majority workforce made up of Chinese or any other foreign companies.
The population of Africa is now 1.2 billion, dependent on crude mining companies is no longer an option. If timber is not fully processed in Africa, then no shipment of timber out of Africa.

I spent 3 months in Botswana - one of the best run countries on the planet - when i left it felt like i was leaving home. Very strange feeling. The trouble with Botswana is its land is not high quality. It gets enough water but the soil doesn't hold it. Worse it comes in fits and starts. There is a reason their currency is called Pula - rain.
Sometimes we are quick to negative response, the white gentleman just spoke the truth. We have beautiful land but we refuse to see it that way, I have lived in the west for the last 20 years and I completely agree this guy's perspective. The big question is... Why have I lived in the west for so long??! The truth is, the problem is us Africans, we choose our leaders mostly base on tribe, and not merit. These leaders the go on to appoint their tribes people to positions not because they merit. The end result is the the tribes people now protect their own tribes against other tribes, this then leads to incompetence, poor quality governance, and insecurity! Some of us are here because our own black people pushed us out of the country and denying us the chance to utilize our talents for the benefit of our people, we then move out of our countries seeking ways to survive. I'm from the UK and I agree artifacts should be returned to SA to be put in museums so that they are safe but, on hindsight would the Cullinan diamond be safe or would it end up in small pieces for any corrupt official to take advantage of thats the billion dollar question.

We fill ours places with plastic garbage, potholes and all manner of unsavoury by products of development, instead of beautifying what was ours. Our grass thatched roofs are now considered chique by the foreigners, while we ourselves swelter under tin roofs. Our affordable and beautiful round huts (google the beautiful southern African homesteads) were discarded for utterly expensive stone houses that only a minority of Africans can afford to live in. Where was the trash around those huts? Was it Our culture to live in filth? Our agriculture, the backbone of our economies was relegated to the "undeveloped", while the developed ones all crowded into the cities battling to get a piece of the modernization pie. Joke on us, they are now colonizing our food supply with GM seeds that will guarantee you dependency on them. If Egypt, Sudan, Mali, Zimbabwe, etc., all had amazing infrastructure BEFORE the white man came, who fooled us into thinking theirs was "civilization"? Johannes is absolutely right. Look inward.
