- I went to the most important sporting event of the SEA Games 2023... The Football Finals. A big game between Thailand and Indonesia. A game full of drama, goals, fights and almost a riot. It was an intense experience. And I was quite surprise to see who Cambodians were rooting for.

Why Cambodian love Indonesia. Here the cause: When the were conflict between Sihanouk, Polpot and Lon nol. Indonesian government actively promote the peace between parties years long. This is why they put a note Indonesian as their brothers. Indonesia take position as brothers in helping Cambodian & Vietnam while they were in conflict or wars. Many of Their refugee come to Indonesia long ago.

Cambodian here, there is no hate against Thai people here in Cambodia at all. I would say it's more of a rivalry because our nations has been disputes since ancient times, but now we don't "hate" each other, just more national pride than anything. Khmer's don't admit it out in the open, but deep down they have respect for Thailand as a country. Most of the time we like to troll or talk trash online cuz of pride hahaha. We supported Indonesia because it would hurt to have Thailand win and lift the trophy in Cambodia. Imagine if Cambodia won and lifted the trophy in Thailand, I'm sure Thailand would not like that too haha. Plus football is the number one sport in ASEAN so we are all passionate about it

The New York Times reported on this so you can search for the archived article and read it yourself. In January 2003, the Thai embassy and Thai owned businesses were set fire after years of claims made by Thais that Angkor Wat belonged to Thailand, which by the way is a claim still being made online to this day. And stories about living conditions in refugee camps at Thai borders and treatments by Thai military still need to be told. Let’s not act like you’ve been a savior to Cambodians and how Thais aren’t guilty of making claims on Khmer culture.

This is surprising. I've just found this documentary. My story is I've been searching for Khmer culture all the way in the internet recently. I think Cambodia needs more recognition. The people, history, language are rich. Now after knowing you love us Indonesians, we do love you Cambodians.
I was very surprised to learn that both Cambodian and Indonesian speaks very similar.
The founder of Angkor Kingdom was the son in law of Medang/Ancient Mataram's King. The Angkor area used to be under Medang rule. He sent his Cambodian son in-law to rule the area, the son in-law then conquered the neighbouring kingdoms, uniting Cambodia, he then decided to declare independence from Medang and founded Angkor Kingdom.

Some teenagers and young adult in the city can speak some English, but most older people and people in the countryside can't really speak any English. What you see in this video is definitely not representative of the majority of population. But that shouldn't hold you back to visit Cambodia. There are many ways to communicate and we have technology that can make communication possible almost anywhere in the world. Plus it's a great place with great people.

You are very wrong. Ancient Chambodian was known as Khmer people of Khmer Empire, the exact same group of people as modern Chambodian today. Champa or Cham was located right next to the Khmer Empire. Champa and Chambodian are two different group of people

Indonesia and Cambodia have a long history with close relationship between the great two nations. We both support each other's fights against colonisme/imperialsme. The Late King Norodom Sihanouk was very famous in Indonesia and had a great relationship with Pres. Soekarno and Pres. Soeharto. I remember when I was still in school in the 80's. the name King Norodom Sihanouk will be mentioned time to time in the News TV at 09.00 PM. I think everybody my age then could named him as the King of Cambodia.

As indonesian, I've been only once to Cambodia for a week work, meeting some workmates over there, we become friends like instantly, one occasion i skipped to pay a tourist fee on a temple place because we look alike a lot and my friends just told me to nod when they are talking as we passed thru ticket check counter, was very smooth the ticket counter thought i was a local. Love them, surely in my future itinerary to come back there.

Like they got conflict about border which turn into an open fire fight in 2008, it lasted until 2011 when Indonesia was appointed as the observer (as fellow ASEAN member) and awards the contested area to Cambodia (through ICJ).
And the fact that Thai peoples always making fun of Cambodia just added more fuel into an already deep conflict.
