That woman bothering Alec Baldwin just wants attention and he knows it. But bringing up traumatic events to stir him up is sickening.
Also Alec Baldwin better be in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice or he gets no redemption from me.
Yup. I don't know why some people feel some sort of entitlement over public figures. As if he owes her any sort of explanation. Her behavior was outrageous and disgusting.
she's so ratchet
Personally, her using the justification of it being art is especially disgusting. Harassment isn't art and art doesn't hurt people.
I'm disappointed he didn't just say it. If it were me and someone asked me to say it, I would have plus more. FREE PALESTINE! Staying silent suggest you support genocide.

"I'm married so I respect the female gender" has to be the most misogynistic thing I've ever seen someone say to prove that they're not misogynistic
I get what Phil is trying to say and it's great to give any motivation\person the benefit of the doubt. But if you enter a stable, you expect to see a horse, not a Zebra. Even if the chances for Zebras are not 0, you'd do well to expect horses. In the case of this guy, I really doubt he was just being an ass for the sake of being an ass.
@@Windmelodie I think the point to Phil's perspective is more that you can find assholes from any walk of life. It's not because he's Iranian that he is an asshole, but because he's an asshole who happens to be Iranian, as there are many Iranian people who aren't assholes. In other words, I expect to see a horse, but I do not expect it to be a bucking bronco.
Women don't marry misogynistic men. Why would you marry some one who hates you. He can't be misogynistic because he has a wife. Therefore he does not hate women
It's giving "i'm not racist, i have a black friend!"
Came here to say this too
Phil, as an Iranian woman, I got really nervous when you started talking about the MMA fighter. Because I thought here we go, another news story to paint us all with the same brush. But I have to sincerely thank you for how you covered the story. We Iranians hate the regime that’s hijacked our beautiful country and culture. We hate everything they do inside the country and outside.
When the attack against Israel happened we were desperate for news outlets to stop saying “Iran” or “Iranian” when referring to the actions of the murderous regime.
So thank you. It means a lot.
This is an important post. More people should read it. Thank you for sharing your viewpoint.
This. It is super important for people to know this truth and to consider it whenever NEWS paints a nationality or a country a certain way.
I just wish the clear repercussions wasn't a beating and sometimes permanent harm x(
I can't imagine how it feels, but my heart breaks for you.
Sending well-wishes for you and all your loved ones. ❤
This is a bit besides the topic but not too long ago I stumbled on this video of Iran. ua-cam.com/video/xerddv6bouQ/v-deo.html
In that video I see many women walking around without a anything covering their head and the vibe in the video is so peaceful. How is that, is this video fake? Is it maybe that this particular city is en exemption from the suppression going on? Care to give me your two cent on the matter? I stand for freedom, so I don't mean any harm with this question.
@@thesid92 Iranian women are fearless. We don’t back down. Despite the risks many still choose to go out without Hijab. In big cities especially where there are lots of young people, many just defy the laws openly. So the video wasn’t fake, it’s reality. The fact is that the morality police have specific areas they like to patrol, and women have figured out where to avoid (for the most part). But if you’re visiting the big city, like Mahsa Amini was visiting Tehran, you don’t have the knowledge of the locals so you’re more at risk.
But they’ve started using Face ID technology to fine female drivers who aren’t wearing their hijab. It’s super fucked up.
“Performance art?” Is that going to become the new “It’s just a prank, bro”?
Performance art doesn't interfere with the lives of people who choose not to participate or view the performance. I like performance art fine. That wasn't art.
Probably. Much like “it’s a protest” has been for the last decade, definitely never is it ever just some crazy people who want attention.
@@Lumibear. First of all "it's a protest" is an organised grouping and demonstration, has a defined objective and target and is peaceful. However inciting violence and acting on violence (except for self defense =but fuck the fuckers who go armed and looking to kill humans=)
Let's not confuse both groups :<
Because that's how fuckers turn the protest into a fucking shit show. You send a masked infiltrator, they disrupt and ignite the crowds and once the fuse is lit over high emotions, the conversation goes to "protesters are violent and harmful to society".... Take a good look at different democracies and consider which ones have the healthier social and stable growth :
@@Lumibear.Reminds me of the "peaceful protests" of BLM in 2020.
We need a solid definition of art. It’s kinda stupid that “Art is subjective” has led to people just calling anything art and arguing that no one can tell them otherwise. If everything is art, then nothing is.
As an art history student it hurts my very soul to hear that harasser call her behavior "performance art" and not "two-digit IQ and a phone".

Okay, the idea of an "approved protest" is so bizarre to me. If you need the approval of the people you're protesting, then how is it supposed to actually accomplish anything? They're not going to approve anything that would actually force them to do something they don't want to do, so it's all just a big waste of time.
The only protest that has the potential to create change is one that happens in defiance of authority, not with it's permission
You say that, but university ground doesn’t belong to protestors. Surely you would call cops if protesters occupied your house to “demand change”

It’s not harassment it’s called civil disobedience also he is a known Zionist

TL;DR - I agree with you completely, and also take exception to the idea that "confrontational art" is something distinct from all other art, or to be honest that it even exists as its own thing, since all art is inherently confrontational on some level (but usually many).
The revenge p@rn implications alone are enough to make you shudder, and that's before you take into account all the other horrific crimes that could be permitted under the guise of "confrontational art".
And as for the phrase "confrontational art", there's already a name for that.....art. Art is designed to confront and challenge, and excite and engage and inspire and mystify. The very principle of art is rooted in confrontation - art is literally humans confronting empty spaces by filling them with paintings and pictures and films and songs and stage plays and sculptures, etc.
And in the performance art world, that's definitely true. Some of the all-time great pieces of performance art have been 100% about confronting the worst elements of our society.
- Performances of the piece "El violador eres tú", first developed by a feminist group in Valparaiso, Chile in response to a march against women's rights taking place in that city, have directly combated the steady increase of misogynistic behaviours and attitudes in the modern world.
- Yoko Ono openly challenged the callous 'empathy' of John Lennon's fanbase and the mainstream press following his murder by writing and recording the Season of Glass album, which also featured John's bloodied glasses from the night he was killed on the album cover.
- Teresa Margolles has an installation called "En el Aire" (In the Air), where visitors stand in an empty room whilst bubbles are blown into the room that will eventually burst on the visitors' skin. It's only after each 'performance' that the visitors are told that the water in the bubbles was collected from Mexico City morgues (and disinfected) after being used to wash the bodies of John and Jane Does before their unmarked burials, an incredibly visceral comment on the way we shield ourselves from talking about both death and the people who we as a society and a species constantly leave behind.
Notice how none of those involved harassment, abuse, (completely) unwilling participation, or aggression...well, scratch that last part, Yoko's pretty angry (and rightfully so) on that album.
But the point still stands: If you can't find a way to confront your 'target' without going beyond art and just being openly disrespectful and harassing to people, you probably don't wanna confront that thing for the right reasons anyway.

Huge fan, Phil! I just wanted to clarify something as a third generation vet who has been around DoD and government people my whole life about a language choice in the last story:
In the Havana Syndrome story, the word the skeptics used was implausible. I only point this out because the meaning is actually different ("hard to believe" as opposed to "not possible"), and it's a curious word choice. Normally, a real skeptic will jump to the big hard-line words like "impossible", or use layman's terms like "highly unlikely". The fact they chose a less often used word that sounds like impossible might be coincidental, but is certainly interesting because it at the bare minimum shows they don't think it's outside the realm of possibility, just that they don't want to believe it. And when dealing with military intelligence, that kind of difference is usually not coincidental and very pointedly chosen.

"When someone says 'I hate Iran', that what they're saying is I hate the Iranian government. I hate the ruling class there." I really wish the media would do better about making this more clear to everyone. If the media as a whole could take the extra second when stating a headline to add the word "government" behind a country's name, maybe there wouldn't be so many people out there with blind hatred for an entire country of people who may or may not even believe in what their government is doing. So many stories about Russia this, Russia that. No, Russians are just people, the Russian government is the problem. The everyday people aren't inherently on the government's side. Same with Israel, South Sudan, Belarus, Palestine, the United States, and every other country out there... It's not a choice of Israel or Palestine, it's regular everyday human beings on both sides being taken advantage of by those who abuse any drop of power they get and use that power to commit acts of hatred and violence. Probably because its easier for humans to bond over a mutual hatred than actually take the time to find something in common that's productive to society.

Alec Baldwin story: that is not the way to get people on your cause. She was harassing the dude. He’s not a politician. I’m not a big Baldwin fan . Harassing people is ART to her? God she’s insufferable.
I used to work at the stadium in Vancouver and it was literally our standard MO that we stopped serving alcohol an hour early for country concerts because those fans are literally the worst behaved. We've had metal bands, political speakers, shows where most of the audience are teens, and basically had no issues. But any time there was a country concert, the average of politeness and safety was much lower, and the likelihood of a fight was much higher.
Rednecks know how to party, but sometimes they take it too far.
I grew up in a small town. That is the problem. Most at those shows are rural folks who live simple but boring lives and rarely get a chance to get out or do anything. So when they do make a weekend of it out of town some get too sauced and act like fools.
Ooh, which venue, Rogers Arena? Pacific Colosseum? I used to work in live events in Vancouver so I’m super curious
@@FancyRPGCanada Yep, Rogers! Hahaha

I just immediately switch off whenever someone starts an apology with “my ‘art’ is a statement on society”
"Performance artist" = I'm an asshole and pretend it's art.
It’s the same thing with nuisance streamers people use social media as an excuse to harass people for content these days
pathetically needy attention addict.
Fairly sure "performance artist" refers to stuff such as athletes and pretty much all circus numbers (be that with swings, with animals, or with red noses).
She is simply mislabeling herself, and the correct label is "predatory third-tier drama journalist"
@feha92 no those are just performers. Performance Art is different.
Mr. Baldwin was more patient than I would have been.
I kid you not, I just lost my beautiful, dumb, and amazing golden doodle this morning at 5a.m. seeing the ad about the dog food almost made me cry again. I'm so torn up. I never knew what it would be like to lose an amazing friend like my dog. I hope his tail is wagging when we meet again.
Definitely thought Phil said "better boops" when talking about the dog food. I was like... that's an interesting (and much appreciated) metric
it sucks that while 95% percent of the students are doing protest peacefully it only takes a couple idiots to ruin the the protest and make them all seems hateful
But if you read the koran..
The thing is, it's not actually the people in the protest, they have made a point to police themselves and be a welcoming and inclusive place. It's actually people either outside of the campus or in other places all together.
It "sucks" because the protest disrupts classes. The protesters are assholes who don't care about fellow students
That's what they say, but the protests don't seem to be doing a good job distancing themselves from the rogue 5%. Maybe it's because of the similarities in the rhetoric?
the protests in question have nothing to do with Islam and everything to do with war crimes committed by Israel against civilians@@larryscarr3897
Being a jerk in public is not “performance art.” It benefits absolutely nobody and just makes you look like a fool
Why is it that we can say something like, "when someone says 'I hate Iran,' they're really talking about the Iranian government and ruling elite," however, say the same thing about the Israeli government and people lose their damn mind, label you antisemitic, and may fire you if they're your employer?
That first story is infuriating. Not even addressing the blatent doushe-baggary that has incited so many others, performance art is specifically about creating art that cannot be replicated... SHE RECORDED IT!?
I'm all for free speach and despite the wild, progressive and powerful nature of performance art (look up Mao Sugiyama for the extremes and "Marina Abramovic and Ulay - A Minute of Silence" for a moving example) the core phylosophy of performance art is that is is non-replicable, non-commercial and puts no one in danger outside of those willing to "opt in" to the performance.
Certainly there is power in "ambusing" influential people but tell me, what added meaning did attacking Alec's personal trauma/issue with the death of his co-worker give? what was the planning? how much effort did she put into this "piece"? why was there no-one else recording nor any "performance suport" in the form of others helpping her pull off her piece? what message does this give?
She saw alec, and decided to chase clout citing a often misunderstood and nieche form of art to hide behind when it became clear that she was nothing more then a clout chasing sosiopath more interested in getting a reaction then making a statement.
The idiots who threw soup on art works and glued themselves to art gallaries made more effort then her. Pathetic.
(sorry for spelling mistakes, dyslexia is not a fun one. Source: i studdied performance art for my bachalors.)
Where the heck was the "Yesterday today" segment? I feel robbed.
If your target isn't prewarned , it's not performance art, it's harassment
Yep, the only thing that could negate it being harassment is him giving prior consent. He was clearly not consenting

10 years ago - "It's just a prank bro""
Today - "It's just performance art bro"
The Alex Baldwin harassment being called performance art is the same when prank channels saying, “it’s just a prank bro.” It’s not, it is harassment. These people need to understand that they hurt their cause when they harass people around them that either disagree or don’t know of the issues.
I have looked at so many outlets for somebody to please for the love of God. Talk about the protesters from the protesters point of view and you are the only resource I have found doing so. Thank you so much for the bottom of my heart for being better than most mainstream outlets out there right now.
Anti-Semitism is a real problem and misrepresenting the students on this campus does nothing but exacerbate the problem. I have seen so much irresponsible journalism around this and it's just heartbreaking.
The majority of what’s getting traction on these protests seems to be Op-Eds by people that are ardently Zionist (and support the way the “war” is being carried out) and also very right wing. If you look at the Op-Ed section of even “liberal” publications it is full of far-righters trying to present fascistic opinions under a veil of politeness.
it feels kinda disappointing that he didn't mention the reason for the protests though. divesting - columbia and many universities have money put into defense companies, and bds hasn't been talked about much in the mainstream media.
@@J-wm4sshe did talk abt it. But that’s not the issue with the protests. The issue is that they are occupying an area which Columbia has explicitly told them to leave numerous times and are committing acts of blatant antisemitism (screaming death to Jews, physical attacks, blocking Jews from entering campus, etc.). If they were peacefully protesting for BDS that would be one thing. But they aren’t.
@@J-wm4ssyou didn't even watch the episode, he says that literally at the start of his coverage.
Idk how you can watch these videos and come away with any opinion other than these people are monsters. If 10 people sit at a table and one is a nazi, you have 10 nazis. If one person is a terrorist supporter and racist and is cheering for the death of jews and you don't ostracize that person you have 10 terrorist supporters and their arguments are invalid

Baldwin being ambushed is ridiculous. Someone similarly ambushed Buzz Aldrin about the moon landed and was justifiably punched.
That was hilarious! 😂
Buzz Aldrin did that, not Neil Armstrong.
What I hate the most about the Alec Baldwin story is the fact that people will see this & think that all pro Palestine are this way
thats my biggest issue too. it makes the people actually protesting and putting in the work look bad. its not activism at that point anymore. it's publicity.
Thank you! 💯👆 As sooner who is Pro- Palestine, this is infuriating because hpw does it help?
I mean a lot of them are tbh. People in the us are brain damaged severely due to lack of teaching critical thinking. People that are willing to engage this deeply with politics tend to have something deeply wrong with them.
There seems to be a non-insignificant number of them like this, based on what I saw yesterday. Lotta cult members, just like on trumps side.
Well, I guess the protests aren't doing a good job distancing themselves from this isolated story
You can't smear the students just to turn around and say, maybe they are not so bad. Ridiculous, especially when 40k people died, while the students standing up for them are assaulted. Get a spine.
“Performance art” is a real funny way of saying harassment
I really like how you ended the MMA fight story. That he’s allowed to be an ass without bringing his religion into it. Thanks Phil.
His apology was wild
I disagree with one of the things he said at the end of the MMA story. When people say they hate a certain group of people from a different country, they actually mean it. They don't hate the government. How many time have we see a specific group of people getting attack when their home country government got out of control? This is proof the average person is not like what Phil said they are
@@Dave_of_Mordor as a Persian I'm ashamed of his actions and that he felt comfortable doing it but I gotta ask, what do you mean by that? What have we done to you
@@illya7195 go troll somewhere else
@@Dave_of_Mordor You seem to be making the exact mistake Phil tried to clarify, there's actually a million things someone could be talking about when they say "I hate [a country]" and you can usually tell based on context but if someones talking about a countries people they'll generally say "I hate the French, Americans, Indians" etc. or use a more derogatory word for those people. Especially in political contexts using the countries title rarely relates to the average working class citizens as they are not in control of what the country as a whole actually does, there will always be ignorant people that don't get this but they are not the majority
Forcing someone say something is literally the opposite point of getting people on your cause

Pomona College student here. 20 students were arrested after they held a sit in inside the President’s Office and although I think most have been released, they’ve been indefinitely suspended and card access was stripped. Protestors have also taken to yelling at prospective students. Oh man, tension is at an all time high I’ve never seen it this bad

I've heard many accounts and seen some frightening footage from the happenings in the Universities like Columbia and the treatment of Jews. It seems that if you want any basic human respect, as a Jewish person, you have to pledge your allegiance to any groups that demand it, else you are a Zionist murderer.
And how do i know that? Because i was labelled a "child murdering Zionist pig that shouldn't miss the train" when i was 12 years old by classmates and elder students. That was over 10 years ago, with no help from the school even through it went on for 7 years.
I honestly don't care anymore. How could i? Even if i pledge allegiance, the moment i say something "wrong" i will be a "bad Jew", again, and i think many Jews experience the same dilemma. Of course we don't want civilians dying, but we don't wanna die either, so what do we do?
Thanks Phil, now I have to line my jacket with foil
honestly i think part of the reason so many people throw things on stage, more specifically their phones, is because a few years ago a video from the head in the clouds festival went viral after someone threw their phone on stage with the video recording and korean r&b artist DPR picked up the phone and took a video on that fan’s phone while singing a really popular phone. i remember seeing that, and my first thought was “wow that person was really lucky” instead of “wow that was really dangerous.”
Being annoying can make me an artist now? That can be an 'art piece'? Then I've been an artist all my life!
When you said that this was the second biggest arrest NYPD did since 1968 with the protests about the Vietnam War... my very first thought was "damn, it's like history is repeating itself."

Except in the ‘60s Jewish Americans were protesting the war, helping establish the NAACP, marching in Selma, and fighting for human rights, and now their descendants are being physically attacked and targeted with hate speech for their religion and birth.

I was at the Luke Bryan performance in Van. It was a two-day country music festival and Bryan was the headliner for the second night. At that point people were pretty lit up and the performers had been signing hats and boots the whole time. Bryan started snapping selfies with some fans’ phones and that really ramped up the amount of phones getting tossed on stage. He was a pro and handled it great. Snapped pics, when he did slip he laughed and made a joke out of it too. People were getting a little carried away with it but the earlier performers were definitely condoning it which I think made fans (especially after two days of liquor) feel it was fine.
I just don’t get tossing your phone with no guarantee you’ll get it back.
Yeah, it's a rough situation. Thankfully he's ok and hopefully not too hurt from it. A fall like that could definitely cause injury to his hips, back, neck and or head.
Requiring permission to protest is kind of a hilarious concept imo
One thing I hate about provocative "performance art" is that it can always be justified with some underlying secret message that everyone was just not capable of understanding. It's the same issue with contemporary art that needs to have a plaque of text beside it to get people to understand what the half assed block of white paint on a generic canvas is supposed to be communicating, if you need to explain teh message for the people, you failed as a communicator. Worse, it could easily be assumed that the "subtext" of such art is basically an emperor's new clothes situation where they truly have no real inherit message or value, but rather are just making shit up randomly to get people to feel insecure about not feeling like the art has value.
