Yeah I agree with your sentiment, it’s my favorite verse from Aesop Rock as well, his best to date imo... (I’ve been a fan since his Def-Jux days; “Float” era.
but I think this is one of Rob Sonics best/detailed bars as well.
The bars that hits me the most is when he’s exampling the new color scheme he’s going to paint his mask. Its so impeccable and flawless said to say the least.
      Check it:
      “Posse packed,
      corduroy, water toys
      and karate class
I'll be back, Play dough with Beowolf in a Chachi mask (Copy That)
      Roger this,
modern twist on a running theme
      Minus Dean,
      dominate pocket change
      for the other team
      Gutters cleaned,
      chimney swept,
      give 'em depth
      for a color scheme
      Egg shell
      over bland white,
      van dyke,
      over hunter green.”
      I mean... got damn, right?!?
By the end of the day; Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic are clear cut equals on this track/album and they really gave the Hip Hop community a stone cold classic of an album.

Both verses are flawless and they're meshed so well with one another. You don't hear a lot of albums that feature two rappers that fit this seamlessly. I've appreciated aesops music since labor days but just now discovered how good this album really is. Aes and Rob both drop incredible verses and ultimately compliment each other very well, it sounds natural for them.

I think rob has the cleaner verse in this.
But I cant get over how mature aes has gotten over the years. Im really stoked he found a flow and style that really highlight who he is rather than pushing with vivid lyricism. He seems like a man reflecting on life rather than a man prjecting his insecurities. Im not saying his older stuff is dope but his level of maturity between this and his uncluded shit is really admirable

    • @phrases3791

I understand you completely!! Thank you for saying this, because I thought I was the only one. The line that gets me is the color scheme of his mask from what I imagine and bank robbery (or like a cops and robbers analogy as little kids). He writes it as such...
“Creepy still leaning on tire iron
      and lobby glass
      Forty-four, door to door,
order more of them body bags
      Posse packed,
      corduroy, water toys
      and karate class
I'll be back, Play dough with Beowolf in a Chachi mask (Copy That)
      Roger this,
modern twist on a running theme
      Minus Dean,
      dominate pocket change
      for the other team
      Gutters cleaned,
      chimney swept,
      give 'em depth
      for a color scheme
      Egg shell
      over bland white,
      van dyke,
      over hunter green.”
It wraps the real “adult” world and the adolescences of growing up (never truly being understood). I could be wrong; I’m only writing what my ears/eyes perceive to me. I would love to know what you think his verse is about. Because you’re right, it’s complex & vivid; and It most definitely should be discussed/deciphered more than Aesop’s verse. I’m pretty sure Aesop himself would agree as well.

[Verse 1: Rob Sonic, Aesop Rock]
From the tree house, you can now see the silhouette
Greasy, poor, needy boy speeding off in a limo stretch
Seedy talk, slow and low tow his comb through his widow's edge
Sleepy dog lying for science dying and pillow pet
Creepy still leaning on tire iron and lobby glass
Forty-four, door to door, order more of them body bags
Posse packed, corduroy, water toys and karate class

Egg shell over bland white, van dyke over hunter green
What it means, forward ho, courts close to the watching eye
Tears like his are tenured and rendered for when his father died
Anchored to his angled and tangled for when his pocket's lined
Golden goose, holding two bowling shoes for his Columbine
Hop a ride, tag along, add a song to your mini-mix
Mega man, egg a van, razor clamped to his chinny chins
Sixty-six, route down, moving down to the Dixie chick
This monkey brought a weapon and heaven give him a pixie stick
Is he sick, if so, make him hurl all the stuff he drank
Hold his hand behind his back, get his hat and his money, thanks
Once he blanks, stand him up, hand him some of the onion rings
Tell him that he's good, get him Bush Tonic, Cutty Ranks

I know this isn’t at the tail-end of the album but this song just has the kind of beauty that the album’s final piece needs...I don’t know how to describe this, but the song feels like an amazing climax to Bestiary. Great song all around, don’t get me wrong, yet I still think this has a lot of ‘end song’ vibes? Just like to visualise that...
HMM is probably my favourite of the projects involving Aesop. Rob Sonic is outstanding in his own right but their flow is practically constant together. They play off each other so skilfully and artfully. Just an excellent project!

Sick verses as always. I'm honestly starting to like Rob more than Aes as a writer. While they both have their strong suits, I'm more attracted to Mr. Sonic's style. He has such a good grasp on vivid imagery, metaphors and rhyme schemes (as does aes, i guess... but rob's schemes are more liquid smooth. less disjointed). Those are the things I've always focused on in my own lyrics. The chorus was perhaps a tad lazy, but I don't listen to these artists for hooks. The beat was nice, nothing amazing. This may not have grabbed me upon my first couple listens ,but I'm sure it will grow on me after I've let this project cycle through my listening rotation. Keep up the good work, ya'll.

The beauty of it is is that their music is so abstract & dense that it can alienate a listener if they aren't looking for a deep meaningful connection with HMM's take on Hip-Hop or that are too lazy/ignorant to see it as a true soulful embodiment of the medium. In a way it's polarizing separating those who want real progressive rhymes and beats from hollow recycled club (c)Rap sheep.
If subversion isn't undergound than there was never such a thing in the first place. *drops keyboard & walks away*

I know everyone’s talkin bout Rob and Aes’ verses, but can we talk about Rob’s art for a sec???
If that’s actually his work, I gotta admit that that’s some fuckin badass professional skill. If he hasn’t already, he should create a comic book series or at least illustrate for somebody.

I have to admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Mallon's previous work, but so far these two tracks have been so good that I already know pre-ordering was worth it. This song and Jonathan are crazy, especially Rob's parts. I hope he gains more popularity after this album drops. I've always felt like he was one of the most slept on artists out there.

Aes's verse really spoke the truth about high school for me. All it was about for most people was an ego boost to be liked and have friends amongst strangers who would and wouldn't like you. Which, I don't know if anyone else could relate, but high school was just a cesspool of bullshit.

Bobby Freedom makes an appearance on Aesop’s new album ITS. Any friction has been resolved. Sounds like it wasn’t friction more than Aes’ hate for touring and the cancellation during the pandemic time.
HMM 3 is unlikely judging from comments made but no bad blood and all love between the two of them.
