This particular laptop is 2 generations old now so it has a RTX3070 and 32G of system RAM, but I really like the form-factor and I can't be bothered to switch to a new one since it has been so reliable. I have a "thickie" called the ZBook Fury which has an RTX5000 and 64G of RAM. It's more suitable if you're gonna train or render things locally. Or even better, their workstations, if your company can foot the bill :)
If i would work fully on Linux, can i have integrated graphics 780M OpenCL and Nvidia graphics usable without too much hassle? I would be in iGPU mode to save battery, but when i need nVidia compute, do i need to switch graphical mode from iGPU to dedicated?
Yes, you'd specify that your default GPU for xorg and other things are the Intel card, and then when you're programming in CUDA it will target the Nvidia card automatically. Having Linux on your laptop has the advantage of being a nice dev environment, and the disadvantage of being finicky with things like HDMI out, standby, and that sort of thing. If you're ever expected to run a Powerpoint on an external monitor for example, it can be a bit annoying. For windows, I strongly recommend always putting on battery saver mode when you're running on battery because it won't run any heavy programs in the background when your laptop is closed and in connected-standby.
@@r3tex is the system software (battery management, etc) and drivers available in linux for us to completely wipe out windows? Not seeing it on their site
@@marcpanther8515 stock Ubuntu comes with a bunch of drivers that handle things like fan speed, screen brightness, low power states and so on. I can say if they're better or worse than their windows counterparts. These machines are "certified" to work completely under Ubuntu.
