He had two big country hits in the USA in the mid-'70s, and I never knew until much later he had a more varied career prior to that. He's underrated in the US.
On this day in 1965 {October 7th} Charlie Rich performed "Mohair Sam" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Two months earlier on August 26th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #21 & spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #6 in Canada... On the same episode he also performed his first charted record, "Lonely Weekends", it reached #22 in 1960 and stayed on the Top 100 for 21 weeks... R.I.P. Mr. Rich {1932 - 1995} and Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}...
And everybody back then used to record the same song once it was a hit, but nobody even came close to being half as good as Charlie's Mohair Sam. He was the man.
Been a fan of Charlie Rich since I was young in the ‘60s 👏🏻👩🏻🏫🥰‼️
