Thank you. I had to take mine apart and I got the brake drag to weak and I had to tighten it a little. Good idea to have it just right so if you do catch the bottom it "won't" be ripped off the boat!
It was a learning experience for myself and an opportunity to share what I learned with others. I hope this video can help people with their manual Scotty downriggers.
Are you referring to the rod holders on the downrigger boom or the oar locks? For the oar locks/rail mount rod holders, they are from Scotty Fishing Products. They are the oar lock mounts.
Great video, ran into the exact issue. Also, how did you attach the wire to the spool when spooling it. Cant seem to find the correct way and have to respool mine. Would love to know how yours is done. Than you!
@@FougereFamilyAdventures do you just do one wrap around the spool then crimp the tag end to the main wire. Or do you put the wire through those 2 little holes on the bottom edge of the spool, crimp, and then wind the rest on? Thanks again
@@AndrewMcGhie there will be some holes in the spool. This is where you feed your wire thru. Then you can crimp it. Check out my other UA-cam videos for how I crimp my cable.

You can use a crimp to hold the wire on the spool

@@AndrewMcGhie put the wire thru the 2 little holes and crimp away. Then you can easily fill the spool with your wire.

What is the max weight it can handle?
10lb is a good size for these. Contact Scotty if you want to use a heavier ball.
thanks for the video and taking the time to show how they work . not going to get a Scotty they look like junk to me..
I would debate otherwise. Scotty makes great products that will last a lifetime and they have great customer service if anything goes wrong.
