Firstly beautiful hair, they’ll eventually mature into fabulous looking locs! Your perimeter ones are very small & for future strength & health of hair there combine them. The loc looks like naturally shed hair that’s migrated down the loc & really you’ll be fighting a long time to have these mature into anything viable as there is not enough hair in that loc but the decision is yours. I’m a fellow Brit from the Midlands, not many natural hair salons here so I diyed 185 locs & almost 4 years in, I made my edges slightly bigger as hair here is less dense & more fragile I retie here every 3 weeks & rest of my hair 5-6 weeks. You could try a .5mm crochet hook to keep loose edge hair in place whilst they mature into locs once they do it’s SO much easier, there’s lots of tutorials on UA-cam explaining how🙌🏾🙏🏾 Good luck on the rest of your journey 😊

Thabks so much for the tips Dione, I definitely hear you on the reties more often around the hairline. Thanks so much!

Good morning Mary! SOOOOO glad to see you again! I'm not a big fan of micro-locs, but you look fabulous! Years ago, I used to wear micro braids. After the third or fourth time having them re-done, I began experiencing very noticeable hair thinning around the front edges, which scared me. Once I removed them, I never had my hair styled in micro braids again. I'm sorry that you're contending with such matter. However, I know that you will do what's best for your beautiful tresses.
    Blessings & Aloha 🌺

Thanks so much Linda! i know thinning around the hairline can be an issue, I'll keep a close eye as I did have some shedding after having my baby. 💗

All that comes from not braiding and. Branding when you wash.❤

I did try braiding and banding and it happened then anyway, but I did stop banding for a specific reason. Thanks for the reminder, I'll cover this in a future video.

if only it were that simple, lol my hair would probably be perfect.
I also had lots of slippage, bunching and unraveling. I braided and banded consistently. bunching/slippage/unraveling has more to do with texture just like she said in the video. the "security" of the rotation also plays a part but that's got to do with the way the hair is being re-tightened.
some parts of my head never even had these issues. those were the parts where my texture is tighter/more coily. the bunching and slippage occurred in the looser, frizzier parts of my head

      @5016jay Рік тому

You also have to let your locs completely dry before you take them out from the braids or they will still bunch and slip .

@@AlllSmilessYes that's true. I've seen some people not braid and band, and really have no issues. But it is recommended for certain textures, and I do think it's a good practice if it works for the individual.

You might be right... I was almost tempted to just cut that loc with scissors I might still do it! I'll be honest though, I was kind of prepared for things not to be perfect on the journey, so I'll find a solution soon! Thanks so much for commenting :)

i think 'that i have had or am currently dealing with all of things that you've mentioned except for the bald patch. i think that i would have cried crocodile tears if that happened. i'm 4 years into my loc journey and i feel like i'm still at the beginning. also i dyed my hair black because i thought the gray hair was making me look too old and now i deeply regret it because i think that my hair is extremely dry now. lastly, due to what i term economic challenges, i have not been to my stylist since december and have retightened my hair twice now.....ugh....i hate it, but it's so expensive...anyway i'm glad to have found your channel and i have subscribed....i look forward to viewing your content

Thanks so much Lovely - yes, the cost of living is having an impact on me too! The good thing is, some issues are definitely fixable, let's take it one day at a time! If you're 4 years in, have you tried conditioning your locs? Mature locs can be conditioned, you just have to be careful about what conditioner you use.

    • @womenofpurposedestiny

@@Life.Love.Locs. yes i have used conditioners. and i do keep in contact with my stylist and she has recommended some products to me....water based leave-in conditioners and she also recommended Aphogee's 2-minute reconstructor.

Hi Mary. I hope you and your menfolk are blessed. Braid or twist sections of your micro locs and then turn the ends back on themselves then secure with elastic bands, not too tight mind. Wash your hair by passing your fingers in a downward motion. I have sisterlocs and I found this method helped with slippage and unravelling. I do suffer with thinning but this is due to thyroid issues. Enjoy your microloc journey and keep us updated. Blessings x

I have the bunching and thinning, but I also have thin hair. I’ve noticed that mine break off from the roots as I tried to rod set my locs one day. I wanted to cry. I’ve also noticed that I can no longer shift my hair from side to side because one side is visibly bald. I feel a few slick spots but do have some fuzz. I’m lost. I have plenty of length but no girth. I get them done every six weeks by a professional loctician but not sure what route to go. Even the back has thinned out. I’m thinking of seeking another loctician consultant and a dermatologist who understands black women’s hair. Any ideas?

Your hair is beautiful. I have the same issue especially my front/ edges never locs even though I’ve braided it and I’ve been locd for 2 years now. I e decided to leave the edges alone lol. I’ve also learned pulling the hair in a ponytail/ bun cause thinning on my ends. I’m not sure if it’s because my hair is still not fully mature but I just leave it down no styling and I’m okay with that. The journey is definitely a learning process! Good luck with your journey I know it will get better over time!

As a microlocs specialist I see this often when clients don’t braid and band during shampoo, and when they start with two strand twist. Two strand twist are more likely to slip, cause holes, and bunch verses if you started via interlock or braidlock, especially with less coily patterns and less courser hair textures. Although starting via two strand twist is aesthetically pleasing, it is also more problematic.

    • @Life.Love.Locs.

I understand your points from experience - since this was a DIY job, I did twists as I can do them much quicker on myself vs braiding/interlocking. I also did a video explaining why I stopped braiding and banding, unfortunately it didnt work well for me.

I have thinning locs due to me accidently creating knots while retying and then trying to untie the knot and caused my hair to break and now a few retues my loc is thinner at the root
