I use ASL. I have been mistaken as deaf on several occassions. It can be funny listening to people that assume i'm deaf says things about me. Three workers in my Dad's factory are deaf. Us four usually go for lunch together. We sign to each other, that is why they get mistaken. One even said, "too bad this guy is deaf, otherwise i can introduce my daughter to him".

The Third story kinda has me a little bit miffed. Mostly due to the fact that sure maybe it wasn't gaslighting, or intended in such a way, but here's how it looks. He goes up to her, and talks about how good his friend is, and the fact that he likes her. She then says she wants to focus on her career, and doesn't want a relationship at that moment. He THEN uses said information to bide his time, and give her the space, so that before his friend has a chance to try again. He shoots his shot, and succeeds. So yeah I can see why his friend is kinda pissed off. I can't see a situation where he wouldn't be. My only thought is... If he truly was your friend. You would have told him that you liked her too, so that he knows where you stand on the matter, but you didn't. You stayed quiet, and all of a sudden he's supposed to accept that his friend that's been giving him advice just suddenly has the relationship that he wanted? You are either dense, or purposefully negligent with your so called "Friendships" Whilst you knew she only needed maybe a couple more years, before she was ready. He probably didn't. You're not going to tell me that he never brought her up again after the initial rejection, and then all of a sudden his friend is now dating the girl that he had feelings for. (Albeit probably lust considering the maturity of how they handled the situation...) Might not be a jerk, but you sure as heck are not a good friend for it either.
I mean to be fair nothing he did was wrong he didnt tell his friend because that would be extremely awkward and weird for everyone two bestfriends competing over a girl who isnt interested in a relationship at the moment that's not going to end well besides she literally said she doesnt want to be with his friend so he cant be mad saying he got gaslit when his friend tried to help and the girl had already rejected him
The problem is that it's a rejection that was also hinting at the possibility of something else down the line (Basically friendzoned) Until she felt ready to make her choice. Which is fine. She can make whatever choice she wants. Thing is... He knew that once she felt comfortable with her new career. He could swoop in, and ask her out, while the other guy was waiting, and biding his time to do the very same. This is why you tell your friend that you like the same girl, because then you can chose to back down, or compete, and not feel cheated by someone that's supposed to be your friend. As for the gaslighting part. The guy could have easily walked up to her, and been like. "My friend totally likes you, and wants to take you out. He's a really good guy! And has been talking about taking you to X place" And she could have responded that she doesn't really like that place, and wasn't interested in a date, so the main guy now found out that she doesn't like a certain place whilst also passively making his buddy look bad for suggesting that location. (I've seen these tactics deployed on several occasions You lot need to stop playing games.) That's why on a certain level I could see why his buddy thinks he's been gaslit.

Story #3: Sounds like a bro code violation. If the original poster would have told his friend in the 1st place that he liked her, his friend might not have tried to get close enough to like her too. My brother found me passed out on the floor from being so exhausted still in the changing position. He woke me up I got in bed and had to do it again 2 hours later. It was actually a great assignment thinking back on it but during the time I thought f that and will not have a baby until I know I’m completely ready.
Story 5: I had something kinda similar happen with me when I was in my late teens. Due to being homeschooled all my life, I didn't really have a dating life like most people, and didn't have my first boyfriend till I was 17. At the time, I had thought he was the perfect one, and I didn't want to be with anyone else. My parents however kept pressing and pushing me to break things off with him to see for myself that there's other fish in the sea, and not just him and wanted me to date other people around me first, before settling on one person and getting serious with them. However, due to being homeschooled all my life, not working at the time, and having a baby face (I kept being told that I looked like a 12 year old a lot), and not really knowing a lot of people, my social circle was pretty small, and dating pool even smaller. My parents eventually did tell me to stop seeing him after less than a year cause he was having a hard time finding a job at the time and because of that, they considered him nothing more than bum, when he wasn't.
Confronting someone about doing gang signs seems like a no-win situation. Either they aren't in a gang and youre making a false accusation or they really are gangsters and they fuck you up for being a snitch.
Story 5. My brother and his wife got married just 5 months after he popped the question. They were each other’s first love. I know that’s not for everyone, but they were ready. I 100% agree with OP. If you’re not ready to make the lifelong commitment, don’t get married. Especially if you’re not even engaged. She should have at least waited for OP to propose.
The girl with the flower baby, total missed opportunity. The last story I think the guy hasn't actually found the one. I'm in the same position, except I have never hesitated to say yes when my husband wanted to get married. But maybe it's because not only do I have no dating history, but neither does he, so we're both just as blind. And I established after a week together I wanted kids. I apologized and said I'm not trying to freak him out, but I wanted to establish what we both wanted in life as early as possible so that emotions didn't create problems for us later. I am not willing to compromise on what I want but I'm not willing to make someone else compromise either as it's not fair. So we established a future after barely knowing each other, and we became very close very fast. Ever since then we have been on the same page on everything and don't fight unless there's some miscommunication or our families make it happen somehow. But our fights always end in us making up. Long story short, I have never questioned if I was right for settling down so quick. I can see us being old and getting to brag about never having to fight to find the right person, and that makes me super happy. If you don't feel this way then I think that's a sign that theres not enough love in the relationship for you to make that leap.
For story 2. Honestly it is not your fault that this person came in to the lobby. I worked both evening and night audit hotel shift for 3 years. In that time I have had more than one situation that got out of hand because people don't tell you everything up front. All you can do is try to handle it in a calm professional way. I once had a homeless person ask if they could use the bathroom. In my defense he looked like he could have been a normal person. After a few minutes I calmly asked him to leave or I would have no choice but to call the police. He packed up and left without much trouble. this goes to show that we all have a relapse in judgement from time to time. hind site is 20 20.

To be clear I do not in ANY WAY represent the Deaf community, but ever since I took ASL in high school it erks me every single time i hear the words “speak sign language” Speaking is typically audible, and I personally use “signing” or “using ASL/Sign Language”
Story 4: did a similar baby assignment but my baby was a raw egg! And the kid sitting next to me, a class bully, grabbed my egg and threw it on the floor, "killing" it. Got a new egg, but had to take a lower grade because of the bully despite all the witness to the eggs demise...
My daughter got told to "quit throwing gang signs" when she was doing sign language on the bus. But not by a Karen, by members of the gang who felt she was disrespecting them. Thankfully there was a girl on the bus that knew she was hearing impared and it was sign who could explain to them. But it got tense because that wanted to "beat her ass anyway" for most of the ride. But the good semaritian calmed them down. After that I drove her to school so she didn't have to take the bus. But they had to take the bus another time on a school trip . Her new hearing aids played music directly into the ear canal and she was just practicing signing songs. So once again the whole gang sign thing came up again. But this was early in 2020 when there were lots of press conferences and concerts with ASL translators. So more people were aware of what it was. Those that knew made fun of the gang boys thinking it was 'gang signs'. An ASL club was born.
The narrator doesn't understand the plight of the original poster's friend in story 3. He went to the friend in confidentiality and trust that he thought he could give to his friend and then got rejected and then two years down the road he finds out that his supposed best friend liked the same girl as he did and now they are together. You don't understand narrator dude how that can destroy a man, the woman who he loved, liked, or were interested in ends up being with someone who you thought was your best friend and it absolutely can destroy some people. That's why we have the bro code. If he was truly his best friend he would have went well s*** I guess I can't pursue her now because it would be wrong for me to do such a thing as to pursue her after my best friend (his words) got rejected. This destroyed his best friend's trust. His best friend is probably feeling some emotions that it's just tearing him inside and now he feels jaded and betrayed, which is a normal feeling for dudes and even girls to have, when he finds out their love interest is with the supposed best friend. I've seen what this kind of thing does to a man and sometimes they never recover and it's heartbreaking to see them spiraling down into the abyss. A jaded and RP Man was created because of this and I hope he's for the better and he stops talking to both of them.

Im from Sweden and my dad is deaf and my mom and are using hearing aids and my 1 year younger sister (im 14 years old) is fully hearing, but gang signs is in my opinion is kind of disrespectful towards those who speaks sign language, its my opinion i will not take hard on criticism and its just my opinion, anyone who thinks same or something else is fine for me ( its just my opinion please dont take any offense)
For story 5. I have been dating my girlfriend for 9 years without being married. I would hate to sound mean but if she cant accept and respect your wishes than maybe it is not meant to be. It sounds that despite being happy with one another you are just too opposite people.

Last story. I really thought he was a jerk at first, having the wonderful relationship and just wanting to explore other options... Then as the story progressed and travel and children came into the picture, I realized you are not the jerk... It sounds like you have different goals in life and it may not work out... Having said that you are being very mature and reasonable about the situation... Don't think of it as "3 wasted" years, think of it as a "long test drive", with no regrets...
The gf in the last story is super weird... she wants to get married early, but doesn't want children. She also doesn't want to leave the country, which is the opposite of the typical thinking of people who don't want kids. Overall OP should communicate to her, and if she's unwilling to yield anything, then he should leave her for both of their sakes
I know it's not the same as being deaf but almost two years ago I had my hearing checked and found out I needed hearing aids. Before that I had to have everyone repeat themselves multiple times (which i knew was annoying especially since it's my biggest pet peeve) and even then I usually ended guessing at what they said and said they were mumbling. When I first put them on I was shocked at the way things sounded and it makes me wonder how long my hearing was going bad if the sound of traffic (and even flushing the toilet) was shocking. There is a MAJOR drop in volume when I take my hearing aids out at night to charge them.
The flour "baby" reminds me of a similar assignment for health class except then it was with hard-boiled eggs and for maybe three days for obvious reasons... still it was hard to keep it whole and uncracked

To be clear I do not in ANY WAY represent the Deaf community, but ever since I took ASL in high school it erks me every single time i hear the words “speak sign language” Speaking is typically audible, and I personally use “signing” or “using ASL/Sign Language”

Story 4: did a similar baby assignment but my baby was a raw egg! And the kid sitting next to me, a class bully, grabbed my egg and threw it on the floor, "killing" it. Got a new egg, but had to take a lower grade because of the bully despite all the witness to the eggs demise...

My daughter got told to "quit throwing gang signs" when she was doing sign language on the bus. But not by a Karen, by members of the gang who felt she was disrespecting them. Thankfully there was a girl on the bus that knew she was hearing impared and it was sign who could explain to them. But it got tense because that wanted to "beat her ass anyway" for most of the ride. But the good semaritian calmed them down. After that I drove her to school so she didn't have to take the bus. But they had to take the bus another time on a school trip . Her new hearing aids played music directly into the ear canal and she was just practicing signing songs. So once again the whole gang sign thing came up again. But this was early in 2020 when there were lots of press conferences and concerts with ASL translators. So more people were aware of what it was. Those that knew made fun of the gang boys thinking it was 'gang signs'. An ASL club was born.
The narrator doesn't understand the plight of the original poster's friend in story 3. He went to the friend in confidentiality and trust that he thought he could give to his friend and then got rejected and then two years down the road he finds out that his supposed best friend liked the same girl as he did and now they are together. You don't understand narrator dude how that can destroy a man, the woman who he loved, liked, or were interested in ends up being with someone who you thought was your best friend and it absolutely can destroy some people. That's why we have the bro code. If he was truly his best friend he would have went well s*** I guess I can't pursue her now because it would be wrong for me to do such a thing as to pursue her after my best friend (his words) got rejected. This destroyed his best friend's trust. His best friend is probably feeling some emotions that it's just tearing him inside and now he feels jaded and betrayed, which is a normal feeling for dudes and even girls to have, when he finds out their love interest is with the supposed best friend. I've seen what this kind of thing does to a man and sometimes they never recover and it's heartbreaking to see them spiraling down into the abyss. A jaded and RP Man was created because of this and I hope he's for the better and he stops talking to both of them.

The first story makes me shake my head in disbelief. The Karen decided to switch rooms so she can’t complain about her being farther away from the arcade and also the fact that the kid is speaking sign language and the Karen is like oh yes gang signs , this child is throwing up gang signs.
Im from Sweden and my dad is deaf and my mom and are using hearing aids and my 1 year younger sister (im 14 years old) is fully hearing, but gang signs is in my opinion is kind of disrespectful towards those who speaks sign language, its my opinion i will not take hard on criticism and its just my opinion, anyone who thinks same or something else is fine for me ( its just my opinion please dont take any offense)

Last story. I really thought he was a jerk at first, having the wonderful relationship and just wanting to explore other options... Then as the story progressed and travel and children came into the picture, I realized you are not the jerk... It sounds like you have different goals in life and it may not work out... Having said that you are being very mature and reasonable about the situation... Don't think of it as "3 wasted" years, think of it as a "long test drive", with no regrets...

The gf in the last story is super weird... she wants to get married early, but doesn't want children. She also doesn't want to leave the country, which is the opposite of the typical thinking of people who don't want kids. Overall OP should communicate to her, and if she's unwilling to yield anything, then he should leave her for both of their sakes
I know it's not the same as being deaf but almost two years ago I had my hearing checked and found out I needed hearing aids. Before that I had to have everyone repeat themselves multiple times (which i knew was annoying especially since it's my biggest pet peeve) and even then I usually ended guessing at what they said and said they were mumbling. When I first put them on I was shocked at the way things sounded and it makes me wonder how long my hearing was going bad if the sound of traffic (and even flushing the toilet) was shocking. There is a MAJOR drop in volume when I take my hearing aids out at night to charge them.
For the record I was only 44 when I got my hearing aids
The flour "baby" reminds me of a similar assignment for health class except then it was with hard-boiled eggs and for maybe three days for obvious reasons... still it was hard to keep it whole and uncracked
