I find this to be quite inspiring. I've always wanted to take part in real bike races, but I've never been able to afford a high end track/road bike. I've always assumed that I wouldn't have a chance without throwing down some real cash. Thanks for proving me wrong.
Every time I see something with track cycling I click on it and this was a very nice surprise. And that cinelli fixie is such a good looking bike. I love all the angels from the race. Very nice
I live in Milton and slowly crawl on Canada made steel frame fixie at local roads, including Tremaine and Pan Am. Next to none on local roads by fixie here. And velodrome events are very exclusive, it seems, can't find any info about what is happening and if public access to watch events is allowed. Before C-19 I was jogging at velodrome's running, walking track and enjoyed watching people on fixies where.
AWESOME production. Gives me chills like I'm back in my summer league velo. I've seen 360 footage but the way you lay it out is cool. 360 head cam gives a good feel of how close people are though
Your bike is the best looking bike ever. Especially with those HED wheels. I was very close to buy the cinelli vigorelli road version but didn't pull the trigger. Unfortunately they don't make this color anymore. Now I build my own steel frames 💪🏻. Great videos! Keep it up!
I admire you saying i wasn't strong enough .Racing is all about one thing being strong on the day. This doesn't mean to say blow the group away It means to have the edge on the day of racing. I have been in over a 3000 or so races track and road. I have raced for decades if you aren't good enough on the day you cant change it just go into damage mode and save what you can. I would also like to point out indoor velodrome's are very different to out door velodrome's to ride and tracks track isn't a velodrome.
Merci Charles, nice video! I was at Mattamy last fall, for a few months, to get my certification, and a bunch of practice on my new Marinoni (last track ride was in Montreal, in the late 80's) Coming back to Mattamy in late March, for a short refresher before - I hope - the Bromont track opens, in October. Guessing we will meet up at some point. Cheers, Jaro
I don't know if bringing a knife to a gunfight was the issue. I think the issue was a knifefighter in a gunfight. At a guess I'd reckon that all of the people in front of you are maintaining a more aero position with lot flatter back positions. I'd reckon that you could easily be 10 degrees more vertical (pronounced slower) than the faster riders.
Lower is not actually better all the time, it closes the hip angle and in longer endurance races reduce the total power output, at least for me. Comfort is fast! Being a short rider, I can't have a flatter back without shortening the crank
@@CharlesOuimet As a track rider myself I can understand your want/need for a more aero carbon bike. I just recently broke my carbon aero/superfast/supersexy frame and had to replace it. I'm inbetween jobs at the moment and wanted to get a BT Edge but no way could I afford that and ended up buying a second hand Felt TK2 Aluminium bike for $500! People laughed at me but after changing wheels, and some fettling with fitting and setup, guess what, I'm actually faster! My setup, reach and drop are all exactly the same but I'm actually faster on an aluminium "beginers" frame. I can't explain why, but I am. I suppose I'm just saying that they aren't the be all and end all of bikes. They are dead sexy though! I'd also work on getting your back flatter. I know you've replied in other posts saying you can't get the power and such when you decrease the angle of your hips but its something you have to work on, and it can take a while. I think you are experiencing a lack of glute activation. The more accute your hip angle the more you rely on your glutes and if you are changing (like you've tried) your setup you can sometimes go backwards for a little bit. In track you need to get low and long and it'd be well worth your while to persist as you'll get a massive aero benefit, much more than a change of frame! Love your uploads, good luck with the racing and keep it up!
@@CharlesOuimet Power will always have to divided by it's wind efficacy, though. Often you use your most Aero position to get up to speed and then you might relax and move more upright to maintain it once you've got your cadence where it needs to be.
Dont know if there is a powermeter on the bike but a powermeter overlay during the races to know how much you push and where could be really nice! ( a lot of work to add i guess) and i understand if you dont wanna show your tactics! Great video Like always!!
Thanks dude! yeah I planned to record power but it did not work. I had my powermeter pedals, but had a glitch with my headunit. Also LOTS of work to have an overlay ahah!
Wow great video I randomly ran into. I also have a Cinelli (fixie) but I don’t race, it just goes to coffee rides and such (still about 2k miles a year on it) lol 🍻
Small hint: the factor that has the greatest influence on aerodynamics in cycling is the position of the cyclist (followed by the wheels, frame and components). I notice that your posture angle is more inclined than that of others. I would try to train to find comfort in a more aerodynamic position: you would gain a lot. In addition, surely the aerodynamic suit and a front wheel with a higher profile, would also make the difference.
My cockpit is pretty much as low as the other guys, but being a shorter rider, my back is definitely more incline and makes it looks not aero. Going even lower would reduce my hip angle (I tried and tested) and then prevents me of doing higher sustaine power!
My drop bars is as low as the other rider, but since I'm shorter, my saddle height is lower thus having a more incline back rather than a flat back. I've tried going even lower on the front end, but that closes my hip angle and I can't produce as much watts
No matter what bike you use It don't matter it depends on the rider if you combined the Strongest Track cyclist with an entry level steel track bike it's gonna be fast Engine matters more than Gears
The only place where they still race steel bikes is Keirin racing in Japan. Which is basically gambling. The governing body NJS have rules in place for equipment parity among riders. Frames and components must have an NJS approved seal.
@@CharlesOuimet But equipment parity can also be boring to watch for spectators and bike nerds. One reason why cycling is exciting to watch is seeing those new shiny beautiful bikes. The quest for marginal gains in performance in bike designs and equipment. Is what keeps the innovation in bike technology continue to move forward.

your stem is neutral short, and the drop wide you need larger and negative stem and narrow drop, a 200 or 250mm negative stem may do it , you may even end winning the race. Plus your saddle is too high.
