Cleaning River Valley Garnets

- I show how I clean Garnet crystals in mica schist from the river valley occurrence. My main tool is a pressure washer. After this treatment you can use more brushing & some metal picks to remove more mica.
Nice job and thanks for sharing this video. One thing that I discovered recently online is a solubility guide by Marulla. If I am reading the charts correctly, Grossular is unaffected by sulfuric acid, but biotite is slightly affected, so it might be another cleaning option for your garnet in mica.
tess99991 that might be a neat idea to try. Could soften up a lot of the hard mica. Thanks
beautiful garnets man! Thanks for sharing this.
Bom dia pra você vamos sempre juntos
Awesome finds! Power washing is great for Ants as well haha, jk. I know what you mean by not going out solo... last year a Bear was creeping up behind me at Grace Lake while I was hunched over digging. He was about 3-4 feet when I heard him and it was game on at that point. Anyways always be safe out there, you never know until it's too late! Thanks for sharing.
Rough Market glad u like. Bears usually are always at the back of my mind to any site I go solo & deep in the bush.
RoughMarket - Sounds like you actually got lucky. A black bear who is thinking about attack will generally sneak up from downwind to about 40M and then rush. They like to wait until you are not looking do this and aim for the neck or back of your head. It does not happen often, but can be pretty serious when it does.
Since my experience they are in the back of my mind as well. So far There is the one at Grace Lake, and one was seen in the valley at the bottom of Titanite Hill walking through. They are only Black Bears, but nature is always unpredictable.
I for sure consider myself lucky on that one, pretty tense moment! I jumped up, yelled, waved my arms, and stood my ground. If that hadn't have worked I was screwed because my bear spray and shovel were about 15 feet away. I'm more preparded now and a heck of a lot smarter! haha

Great vid, do you have a good way of cleaning mica schist off kyanite??
BCAngler1 I haven’t tried, but similar method might work, with more care though. I would suggest using a brush with baking soda or toothpaste. A mild abrasive.
Great job I will watch more of your videos!
How much for one?
@@JoseyWilds not for sale at this time but thanks for asking.

CoinandRelicOntario thanks man

Pretty garnets I like your cleaning method I tried to use muriatic acid to disolve the mica bur its not working out to well
The Garnet rock does not seam to contain any Candice to dissolve, tried that myself in the past. This method is not too bad
Nice garnet
Do you knows what’s valued of rough garnets by carats?
GATE Laos not of the top of my head but I am sure a search on it will come up with something. I think the quality of the stone, cut, & colour are bigger factors that affect its price versus a by weight value
I would like to purchase one. Asap
I have some rough pieces.
Now do you sell them to jewelers or just collect?
I mainly collect but I would definitely sell for jewelry if I could.
Very nice, I'd like to go for a rock hunt up there. Is there any group at all that gets together on planned outings?
Terry f there is a club in Sudbury you can try to contact, the Sudbury rock & lapidary society. They prolly are your best bet up there.
