1. letting them know why, set the intention for the discovery call, clear, set the stage 2.Assess their pain Why they wanted to reach out to you 4. Diagnose the problem 5. Offering the solution
I SO APPRECIATE you sharing about the struggle of balancing full time work and building a business. I have a discovery call scheduled for Monday, on my lunch break 😅 Thank you so much!! It's refreshing to hear a coach that's become successful talk about this
I love the point that you made about not everyone being a great fit for you as a client. Especially the part about recognizing when they may need to see a licensed mental health professional. That’s something that has made me feel a little insecure about going into coaching, I never want to be in a position where I feel like people are wanting therapeutic type services for me. That verbiage help me to feel more confident in case it comes up. Thank you for these great tips!!
Thank you for your transparency, I’m a dating Coach and I’m new to the game, but I’m not new to leading others. I’m in a position of leadership at work, but I SUCK at selling so this was so helpful. Thank you 🙃
This video was amazing and I loved all the advice you gave thank you. Some feedback just for user experience - the music was a bit hectic and distracting from all the amazing info you were giving so maybe in future are that in mind when editing! I did the same all the time in my videos before someone brought it to my attention so I'm passing on the baton so to speak. Thanks for all your awesome content!
Courtney, thank you SO much for always putting 100% of the work into producing valuable content. I am a recent Master of Social Work graduate who has background in clinical social work (aka, psychotherapy). I am in the beginning of my mindset coaching business for women w/ Lyme Disease (something I used to suffer deeply from), and am trying to differentiate the boundaries of how to know when someone is ready for coaching vs. therapy. It's a blurred line sometimes for me, because obviously the two intersect in many ways (rapport, empathy, reflecting back, etc) _but _ there is clearly a big difference between the two. Besides therapy being focused on deeper psychological issues and focusing on the past vs. the present/future, what would you say are the biggest differences and how to identity them during the discovery call? I really appreciate your input on this - thank you! :)
Congrats to you and this is a really good question! The way it was explained to me that made a lot of sense was “coaching is helping someone realize their future where therapy is helping someone resolve their past.” It can be difficult because we all have issues in our past that need resolving and we all have future goals we want to realize. During the discovery call, you’ll want to watch for “hints” that a person CANNOT realize their future *until* they resolve their past. When you notice that, that’s an indication that they should work with a therapist *before* working with a coach. I hope that makes sense!
