Lagu Dayung Sampan merupakan lagu daerah asal Banten ( Indonesia ). Recording first time by AIDA MUSTAFA - Keronchong Sarinande (1960's ) Lagu ini mendunia ketika dibuat versi Bahasa Mandarin yang dinyanyikan oleh Teresa Teng dengan judul "Tian Mi Mi". Sorry kalau salah.. what ever just enjoy it this song... where ever it came from..
On a personal note I'm not a fan of Chinese sounding music, however I can appreciate the collaboration which makes a truly MALAYSIAN song. Well done Noraniza Idris - always a winner in my eyes!

The song is a folk song of the people of Banten, Indonesia, known as "dayung sampan" in commemoration of the tsunami that often hit Banten. The rhythm of this song is very similar to Mandarin, because the composer of this song is of Chinese origin, named Osman Ahmed. But it doesn't mean that this song is an imitation of the Mandarin song "Tien Mi Mi" because this song is a Banten local song, on the contrary, Tien Mi Mi imitates this song.
The Erhu, commonly known in the West as the 'Chinese violin', is a two-stringed bowed instrument, capable of producing sad, mysterious, or joyful melodies. Erhu is said to be the closest instrument in sound to the human voices, bird cries and various sounds in our surrounding environment.
I'm a big fan of Noraniza Idris. This is a very interesting fusion of traditional Malay and Chinese sounds with a modern beat. Not everyone's cup of tea but I think it works. BTW I think Nuraniza definitely had a nose job here ...
Dayung sampan is not malaysian version of famous chinese tien mi mi, but tien mi mi is chinese version of indonesian traditional song dayung sampan, teresa teng made it famous as chinese song, but she sung also the original version Dayung Sampan. This song already famous during dutch colonial time as the Stambul Dayung Sampan.
You're welcome, Amoun! :) Yes, I think Noraniza is great. This collaboration between Noraniza and He Yun is fresh, and I think it turned out pretty good.. What do you think of He Yun, the Erhu player? :)
Maybe for the purists among us,, this version might sound a little resentful. BUT,,, I'm NOT one! I simply adore this version! It's alive, and pretty at the same time! Wonderful version of "TIAN MI MI"!
sampan is like a small boat commonly used by fishermen.. dayung means to row so dayung sampan basicly means row(ing) (a/the) boat if my translation is not correct, please forgive me and correct my mistake..
the original malay (or exactly Indonesian version) version of this song, which was sung by Teresa Teng has different lyrics. It is up to you, which version do you believe as the original one? I believe the song which was sung by Teresa Teng is the original one.
i agree with you! i dont understand why the word "malaysia" being overly stressed in this song. i still think that the original indonesian version as the better version. im malaysian by the way.
Teresa Teng Dayung Sampan in the Indonesian album has a very beautiful melody and music.just like Tian Mi Mi,the storyline is different with the same theme, which is romantic.Better than this song. From the sound to the music,it's very disharmonious. Only Er Hu sound is succesfully. Sorry to say, this song spoils the original theme for a one romantic story.
I am a Chinese Singaporean so I don't understand Malay. But I heard some Malay words like Dayung (row), Sampan(boat), Cheena (Chinese) and Singapura and Malaysia. So, let me guess what the song is about. The Chinese should sit on the small boat and leave Malaysia and row to Singapore?? Hahahaha!! No problem, my Malay kawan !!!
Dayung sampan is originally Malaysian Baba and Nyonya heritage song. Now it is rowing a boat coming back to Malaysia. During that time Singapore not exist only Old Temaskt, Riau and Banten exist. There were part of Malaysia territory.not Indonesia.
