Meta (Facebook and Instagram) has announced that they will start harvesting your public photos and posts to teach their AI model, and they plan to do this without your explicit consent. Rightfully so, users are outraged that their data will be used for AI learning, especially artists. So what can you do? Do you have any options?

This happened with Meta and other SM services over and over again. The message is crystal clear and repeated frequently..... You are not so much using them as they are using you.
Do Not Use. There was a time without meta and there are others ways to connect. Seek them out, make better by demanding better.

the fact that you have to go through all those hoops to opt out in the states is insane, and they can still deny your opt out request but, they can add new things no one asked for or wanted while stealing your content, these big tech companies are getting out of hand
I remember an old FB policy that deleting your profile wouldn't remove FB ownership from your photos, you had to actually delete your photos AND THEN delete your account... was hoping this sneaky move might get addressed, because I can't find it anywhere.

@@wrighty6631 You can't update an exsisting key as they're locked in. You have to buy a new key to get one with the latest firmware. It's to stop there being a back door to the locked in data by flashing a custom firmware.
I deleted my FB account in like 2010. The reason was I heard a little kid talk about social media her quote was "FB is for old people". I kept Instagram for a while and deleted it in like 2022.
So late 2023 I go maybe I should have an Instagram account again. I go to sign up and I used two different emails each time. But here's the best part each time Meta said I was a robot and not a real person. I did the whole spin and prove you're a person thing, but I guess I'm not. The only thing I can figure out is I block FB cookies, but not Instagram ones. So I guess that makes me "not worthy" of an account.
Why must I opt out and not opt in. And why do they make it a manual process? Next time you need to fax it to them, but only during business hours. 😒

I just checked mine as I live in the UK and it's now saying that they've delayed the roll out so you can't currently opt out, and that they changed the privacy policy again today (26/06/2024).

These things should ALL be opt in only. And if the platform want's to encourage folks to opt in, and/or provide an incentive, that is reasonable. But should alway start as opt in and default should be opting out.

Additionally, Meta has made it considerably more difficult to opt out of A.I. scanning of your material
I am following along in the video to opt out and I don't see the same areas mentioned. Ugh I'm so annoyed.
I used Ai to write me a couple good short statements to submit my objection regarding copyright and gdpr, we will see how it goes. Thanks Shannon.

I keep seeing artists getting AI-tagged when all they did was use maybe photoshop on the image. Zero generating anything. Also IG is butchering the visibility of artists. It's insane.
It's really annoying that a quick fix on Photoshop is now considered AI to Instagram, even when the fixes aren't even AI based.

I have deleted facebook long time ago I am so happy I did that.
One thing about Yubikey is still a question mark for me. How does it work if you use a computer that isn't physical, like a VDI?
Or if, like me, you have five computers locally? Do I need one for each? I guess I would, if I don't want to make a bunch of USB extensions and have them terminate at the end of my desk in a bundle, so I can plug the key in when required.
I guess a USB slot on a keyboard that's shared via software KVM would work, as I use software KVM anyways.

AI is so overhyped. I don't know who sold their soul to get AI pushed into *every* facet of life, but I'd like to ask if it was worth it.

@@Test-ny6uh A teacher uses AI voice to accuse the principal saying racial slur and other sensitive comment about the students. The issues escalated to the point where police were involved because parents were being aggressive to the school staff as well. Took about 2-3 month to resolve.
I guess that is one of the other uses of it I guess. Also if you don't believe me just look up BALTIMORE PRINCIPAL INCIDENT that happened earlier this year. This is on the news and a few articles so it's not just a social media discussion.
Since there's also seem to be no change in where they get the sample for the AI we can assume this going to happen again except the AI probably be more convincing at that point.

I never ha a Social Network account, never FB, Twitter, Instagram, anything, even before AI hype advent their licenses allowed them to do nasty things. Unfortunately LinkedIn is required by some employers. In Brazil those collections are forbidden by law in theory you should not even need to opt out (all must be opt in) but who knows?

Meanwhile...like many others...I'm truly grasping the empty pit of horror that has been my Facebook account. So many of my dearest friends have shared SO much of their precious lives on this platform...only to have it train our robotic AI overloads.

Meta is training its AI based on user data and chats, you say? Awesome. I can't wait for for Meta AI to slide into my DMs and screenshot its own unsolicited messages so it can forward them to my wife. There's no way that goes sideways ever.

it's lovely how large companies make choices like this, no one can do anything about it. not many of us have that drop a lawyer cash flow. but they do also through this junk their policies so even legality i don't think theres any thing doable. maybe spacex and elon can, i dunno if spacex has design photos but they may be able to work a privacy issue.
So what happens if you move from a non-GDPR country to a GDPR country? You changed all the settings indicating you made the change won't they be in violation of GDPR if you did actually move?
That's what I was theorizing! I'm going to Scotland in the fall so maybe while I'm PHYSICALLY in Europe I'll try again lol

Companies should never use their AI to train on stuff that's private...but I'm not sure what the problem is when the stuff they're being trained on is public...since it's public data anyone can access it. Should there be an expectation of privacy on stuff that's public? Am I missing something?

You think thats bad, Samsung have just pushed AI crap on to everything from the S23 and up, there is now a section in options for AI settings, now if you are security conscious you don't have a samsung account, but guess what, you cant get in to the settings unless you have a samsung account, so to get in and disable the bit thats hoovering up your data, you have to agree to them hoovering up your data by creating an account, they should NOT be allowed to lock out ANY options behind a login

Why does Instagram don’t offer? Where is security key to account for two-step verification Facebook offers it why not Instagram? Can you please tell me the reason? And do a video on it Instagram is owned by Facebook. They can integrate it in their software. Why won’t they integrate it in their software for Instagram? hardware security

why should anyone secure anything, AI will just come and scoop everything up regardless , think of it, you securely log into your online account , and then the AI scoops it up for free, then takes your job, yes, your job too
