After experience with this head unit for about 3 months I thought i would leave a review. This is a very nice unit, the grey color is not perfect but matches the other trim closely. The screen is very good, with adjustable brightness, and even the volume and HVAC buttons feel near OEM quality. The unit functions very well once set up; my primary purpose is to jump directly into CarPlay whenever I drive. The integration with the vehicle is very well done, including door ajar notifications and the backup camera. Installation is very easy, truly plug and play. The video install is good but a wiring diagram would be nice with the unit. When i installed my unit i had a bad ground loop interference which caused a whine and poor audio quality. After a lot of testing i replaced the axillary interface on the truck and it solved the problem. I still have audio interference when the steering wheel controls are installed, so i am dealing without the SWC until a solution is found. Alex (Workshop 12) was great to deal with and was involved and active to help solve the issues I had. If you are interested in this unit i would recommend purchasing from him.
What exactly did you replace on the AUX. I have the same issue. The second I plug in the dummy aux to complete the circuit I get the low hum and whine. Did you just replace the AUX plug in the center console?

The only problem I have with this setup is that it doesn't have the outputs for an aftermarket sound system. So if you don't have a stock stereo system you would have to run LC2 or LC6 to run amps and separate channels.
Thats correct, there are RCA outputs but from my testing they dont produce an output signal. Even if they did, using a LC2 or LC6 would be the only way to keep vehicle chimes etc due to the serial bus setup of the truck.

Does the voice assistant button on the wheel still work? That gets frequent use from me. Also, why can't this use the stock microphone above the driver?
Voice assistant will work but its a bit complicated. If you are using it for vehicle functions i.e. onstar it will work normal. However, if you are using CarPlay with the new headunit, this means that your phone's bluetooth pairing is with the headunit not the vehicle. Therefore, using the voice assistant to make a phone call will not work as the truck cannot "send a command" to the headunit. HOWEVER, if you are using CarPlay (or similar) you will have Siri on the headunit and can use that for voice commands to make phone calls, play music, change tracks, etc. The situation is the same with the microphone, when you are bluetoothed to the headunit, it needs its own microphone. If you simply used the console app and connected your phone to the truck then the stock microphone will work as normal. Having said all this, the added mic isnt a big deal.

Yes, you would need to purchase an LTE 4G tablet data plan. However they are fairly cheap as you do not need as many Gb of internet in your car tablet as you would need on your phone.

Hot or Cold temps will not effect the unit as this is not a regular tablet and it does not have a built in battery. It's the same thing as the OEM screen :)

Do these include a warranty? I have seen a lot of these have issues 3-6 months down the road and there putting the factory stereos back in or waiting weeks for replacement. What is setting you apart from the others?
Because there seems to be a ton out there it’s hard to settle on one model type and take the jump. If there is a Warrenty that goes with this then I would jump on it. I see a lot of these have line issues or dead Pixels after 1-3 months.

I shouldn't answer this question as you did not buy this kit from us. However, I'm assuming the place you bought it from does not have exceptional customer service like we do 😆 However, as I mentioned in the video 18:11 you need to disable the dynamic guidelines under the settings > System > Dynamic Guidelines

@@WorkshoptwelveConnect the console screen on the new Tesla style screen will not be centered on some of these units, most other similar brands the console screen will be shifted over to the right so you have to go into the settings and center it, just wanted to see if yours came centered already or we will have to go through the settings
@@mitchgee That's not the case. That would only happen if you selected the wrong unit for your vehicle. For example let's say you have the 7" OnStar system and you ordered the 8" version then you would need to adjust the screen as the wrong size was ordered. This is why it's important to order the correct size unit when purchasing our kit :)

I believe these units are all manufactured by in the same factory and are just branded differently. The Operating system and UI are all exactly the same. The sound quality are not tha great. I returned the unit I bought.

I have had mine now for about 5 months but recently, the screen went black..at first it came back on after a few hours but now it has gone black again and it has been days. I'm frustrated!!! Any ideas how to address this? I have emailed customer service of the company but they have not responded.
Id suggest pressing and holding the RST button located about the right volume knob for 10 seconds with a pin shaped object. Unfortunately this is all the help i can provide as you are not a workshop 12 customer. Wish you luck. :)

Yes it can! Operating temp is between -30 to 80 degree Celsius. So about -22 to 176 degree F

You would need an LOC in order to connect subwoofers as our kit does not come with RCA Outputs.
What about byoassing the boss sub in high country trim???

Because there seems to be a ton out there it’s hard to settle on one model type and take the jump. If there is a Warrenty that goes with this then I would jump on it. I see a lot of these have line issues or dead Pixels after 1-3 months.

you can dim the brightness however you can not change the color of the backlights.

However, as I mentioned in the video 18:11 you need to disable the dynamic guidelines under the settings > System > Dynamic Guidelines

How does this work with HVAC what’s a dual function? Is the control for the different temps on the screen?
Yes! All HVAC controls are turned into digital buttons that will appear on the screen for both sides of the truck if you have dual climate.

@@WorkshoptwelveConnect the console screen on the new Tesla style screen will not be centered on some of these units, most other similar brands the console screen will be shifted over to the right so you have to go into the settings and center it, just wanted to see if yours came centered already or we will have to go through the settings
@@mitchgee That's not the case. That would only happen if you selected the wrong unit for your vehicle. For example let's say you have the 7" OnStar system and you ordered the 8" version then you would need to adjust the screen as the wrong size was ordered. This is why it's important to order the correct size unit when purchasing our kit :)

Our kit has better hardware, we have had no complaints about the AC controls not working.
I believe these units are all manufactured by in the same factory and are just branded differently. The Operating system and UI are all exactly the same. The sound quality are not tha great. I returned the unit I bought.

Yes you can :) Simply connect the OBDII Scanner and download the app from the Google PlayStore, then you can split screen CarPlay and the OBDII app

It does not, you would need to use a LOC "Line output convertor) to connect subwoofers.

I have had mine now for about 5 months but recently, the screen went black..at first it came back on after a few hours but now it has gone black again and it has been days. I'm frustrated!!! Any ideas how to address this? I have emailed customer service of the company but they have not responded.
Id suggest pressing and holding the RST button located about the right volume knob for 10 seconds with a pin shaped object. Unfortunately this is all the help i can provide as you are not a workshop 12 customer. Wish you luck. :)

The radio and A/C dash components are essentially the same for that year.
