  • Great Western Railway Class 1600 No.1638 (K&ESR No.30) in British Railways livery heads out of Tenterden Town station with the first train of the day toward Rolvenden before Norges Statsbaner Class NSB 21c No.376 (K&ESR No.19) "Norwegian" in Kent & East Sussex Railway livery heads into the run-around loop at the station to pick up carriages ready for the second train of the day to depart. The crossing here is operated by one of the signalmen and is on a small track to a farm, the railway's work sheds, the warehouses of some small companies and the car park at Tenterden Town station (the entrance to the car park is made of concrete sleepers which makes the speed hump along the track the smoothest part of it!). Two tracks cross the road despite the gates being so small, as the crossing is on a set of points, making the track interlaced. The points were laid across the road sometime in the noughties to lengthen the loop, making this one of a few interlaced track crossings on the rail network. Just like the crossing at Bodiam, these gates have a red diamond instead of a red circle, to keep with the railway's heritage aspect. It was 1940s weekend at the railway, hence the old clothes, the old bus and the British flag waving in the background.

With respect to hi viz jackets, signalmen/women have a dispensation at this location due to the proximity to the station.

Awesome video but I think that the signalman may get in trouble as he wasn`t wearing hi viz lol

The signalmen don't need high visibility jackets on heritage railways
