Very nice video! Now a question: You said that if the feeder is to full no nectar will come out but that if it is not full enough the nectar will all leak out, so what happens when the birds drink it down halfway? Will it all run out?
I think the feeder is gorgeous. I find that if I put my sugar into a big measuring cup and only add a small amount of boiling water from my tea kettle, then stir until all of the sugar is thoroughly melted. Next I finish by putting in the rest of the water I need from a bottle of drinking water from the fridge. The nectar is immediately ready to use. No waiting.
Omg! Fantabulous! ❤️❤️❤️ I think this is the BEST (and prettiest) DIY hummingbird feeder I think I've ever seen! 👍 I work with wire and was looking for something like this. I need to get some huge beads and I'm thinking I may be able to recycle some of my old cannula tubing (aka oxygen tubing) and create a splitter or either drill 2 holes for multiple feeding ports. Thanks for sharing this fabulous idea! 😊
so, will it be ok, when it gets lower in the bottle? or is just the initial prime of the feeder that you need to worry about. love the idea. I broke my plastic one and it was cheezy looking this is way nicer
I loved your video and thank you for sharing this great idea! My parents (mostly dad) sits with his flying friends daily and it's so sad because dad has lost most of his human friends in his neighborhood cuz like dad says, "They didn't beat the odds of waking up that morning". I tell dad...nah, I'm willing to bet they just got tired of hearing their wives nag all day and figured since they always came over here for a few beers n good convo, why not make it a permanent situation? My dad always listens with non judgemental ears and gives you 5 stars just for bravery to place any power tool in your hand and learning how to use it! So, I think I'm going to take this very lesson out of all I watched, and show dad I too tried, so he may have to tidy up any mess I create, but I know for a fact this Father's Day, he and his buddies won't mind 1 bit!
Cute, but only one bird can feed at a time. Also, that plastic straw won't last long and regular cleaning would damage it pretty quick. Harmful bacteria builds up which causes intestinal distress for hummingbirds so their feeders should be cleaned, especially if sitting in the sun, every four days. Maybe a small rubber hose would be better.
Hummingbirds don't share, but yeah, i an not to happy whit the hot glue and the plastic straw. I once hold a hotglus stik whit my mouth...it taste awfull....🤢
LOOOVE this video! thank you for posting this (even though its old and i just NOW found it!) i needed to find something to put at the bottom of my glass bottles! I ended up just taking the plastic bottom of the cheap feeders and using some E-6000 to keep it on there! it totally worked though and they still get the nector! very pretty bottle! ; )
If it won't hold a vacuum when the liquid gets low, then the birds are going to be playing a particularly suspenseful game of jack-in-the-box! It's like a reverse dunk tank!
It's a beautiful idea but as you were speaking it was dripping sugarwater. You could see the bubbles. It's very dangerous for a hummingbird to get sugarwater on its feathers most of the time they perish because they can't fly and starve to death
Plain white cane sugar mixed one part sugar to 4 parts water is recommended mix for humming birds. Brown sugar is not recommended because of contaminates. Do not use artificial sugars either because the hummers need the calories.
Drilling in the wrong direction... too funny. Also it's most likely gonna get sucked vacuum after a while. (as in nothing will come out) Other than that I like the look of it :)
Remco Smit Saw that too, but thought it was just because the video was made in Imperial units and in a different place in the world. Oh well, backwards holes work good.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Oh wow!! Lindsay the feeder is beautiful!! I really think this is something I'll be making! Holy cow!! Great job with the drill! This whole segment was great! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Ahhhh....now we know why so many hummingbirds go into torpor under their hummingbird feeder... people are not washing all the alcohol out of their wine bottles ;)
This is nice and pretty but one feeder for one bird doesn't work. I have 3 feeders that will handle 8 birds each. I sit in a chair in the early evening watching 15 ti 20 birds feeding and buzzing the area. My neighbor who is 92 enjoys watching them. Your bottle would do nothing to please them, I make a gallon of nectar a day as they are in the yard from sunrise to sunset. Good luck attracting more than a couple of birds.
Gary Finger I actually have 2 other multi bird feeders and I have never seen more than 2 hummingbirds at a time. There is more than enough nectar for them:)
I am sorry, it is really fun to sit on patio and watch the little guys go zooming around, Just sit and wait and one will come within arms reach and hover in front of you. to say thanks, My feeders are not exclusive to humming birds as other come and try to drink Biggest bird so far is a Cardinal. Actually nothing prettier than 8 birds drinking at one time then a tough males zooms in and away they go. I make my own nectar but never have I colored it red. Just clear sugar water is all that I use.
Unless your on Well Water , please do not use the Tap ! I cringe at the thought of feeding Gods most lovely creations with the same Poisons that we consume on a daily basis ! fluoride is a Poison, if you don't believe me just read the warning label on your Toothpaste .
Terrific! I like DIY videos, because I'm that type of person! I'm going for it!!! Thanks!!!
Very cute--and especially thanks for the info on how to fill the bottle so it doesn't leak.
Very nice video! Now a question: You said that if the feeder is to full no nectar will come out but that if it is not full enough the nectar will all leak out, so what happens when the birds drink it down halfway? Will it all run out?
This DIY looks like a fun project to do with my grandson! Thank you!

I really love your idea! I want to make one! Thank you very much for sharing.
Very nice!! And $$ friendly!!👍🏼👍🏼❤🙂
Absolutely a wonderful video !! Easy to follow! Love it !
Nice easy project Lindsay. I especially like the "flowers" at the end of the straw. Makes it look real.
Nice job.

What a awesome idea. Love it.
I had not had Poland water since the 90's great taste.
I will be making these for Christmas gifts. Thank you for the information, where did you get your bead assortment?
😎❤️making one tomorrow, but I will have to empty the bottle of wine first!
Very informative!
love your lawn.
We are having a problem with the feeders leaking. Any suggestions?
Brilliant!
Going to do this thanks.

Home & Garden for Mere Mortals I would liked to have seen a humming bird using your feeder. Great video. Thank you.
LOVE IT! So clever!
wonderful job Lindsay. Very pretty feeder. I make my own hummingbird food to avoid the red dye. Make mine like you do.
Loved it.
Very amazing
Wow, love this! Thanks
🥰 cute
If it gets low does it start to leak, wheres the sweet spot ??
I can’t get the wire to stay on the top of the bottle with the loop. It keeps sliding off
I tried twisting it tighter with no luck !
Help !
hi friends super ideas
I love this idea! Thanks for sharing. I have LOTS of wine bottles (is that a bad thing? LOL) and can't wait to make these swanky hummingbird feeders!
Perhaps you could show the hummingbirds feeding from it.
Great video... I would have liked to see hummingbirds feeding from it in the end 🤗
Gracias!!!🤩😍👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😲😲😮😮
Instead of a plastic straws, what else can I use, so I clean it good?
I was think the same thing. Stainless steel straw.
Cute, but only one bird can feed at a time. Also, that plastic straw won't last long and regular cleaning would damage it pretty quick. Harmful bacteria builds up which causes intestinal distress for hummingbirds so their feeders should be cleaned, especially if sitting in the sun, every four days. does it really works? I mean... the birds really drink it?
wow so cute
Great Video :)
Is the hot glue safe for the birds? Thanks! 🐦

"Manly man pliers" hahaha hilarious :D
If you leave alcohol in the humming bird feeder and bees come to it, will they produce mead instead of honey?
I love this! New sub ⚘
It's a beautiful idea but as you were speaking it was dripping sugarwater. You could see the bubbles. It's very dangerous for a hummingbird to get sugarwater on its feathers most of the time they perish because they can't fly and starve to death
We tried this and the liquid just keeps coming out. What did we do wrong?
Sugar is ok for humminbirds ?
Plain white cane sugar mixed one part sugar to 4 parts water is recommended mix for humming birds. Brown sugar is not recommended because of contaminates. Do not use artificial sugars either because the hummers need the calories.
Pretty but only one bird at a time can eat. Can you make something where more hummingbirds can eat?
Drilling in the wrong direction... too funny.
Also it's most likely gonna get sucked vacuum after a while. (as in nothing will come out)
Other than that I like the look of it :)
Remco Smit you can tip it back gently and displace some of the air if that happens, so far so good and the birds are using it:)
Remco Smit Saw that too, but thought it was just because the video was made in Imperial units and in a different place in the world. Oh well, backwards holes work good.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Good point there, didn't think about that yet. Great project though!
Remco Smit She wasn't running the drill backwards, she's in Australia...
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Oh wow!! Lindsay the feeder is beautiful!! I really think this is something I'll be making! Holy cow!! Great job with the drill! This whole segment was great! Thanks so much for sharing!!
The drill was going the wrong way.
Ahhhh....now we know why so many hummingbirds go into torpor under their hummingbird feeder... people are not washing all the alcohol out of their wine bottles ;)
Did you seriously drill in the wrong direction ?😂

Almost started to do this, but then it struck me: there are no humming birds where I live. And the tropical zoos already have feeders.
I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to go through all of this.
leaks and attracts ants, garbage
