I’m 20 & can remember Neymar’s entire career, growing up in school everyone wanted to be like Neymar, all my friends who played football loved Neymar more than any other footballer, I would spend hours everyday watching Neymar skill move tutorials, we all did that at one point in our life, Neymar has had one of the greatest impacts on sports period & it’s not talked about enough he made an entire generation love football. Neymar is one of the best players of all time you could even say just behind Messi & Ronaldo.
I guess because he is although brazilian. People expected him to win a world cup a copa and at least nit just one ucl. Bc he literally had so much talent
I agree with everything you said, except one thing: Ronaldinho. It's a shame you only caught the end of his career in Barca, he was past his prime at that point. I'm 38, so I was lucky enough to see all of his career live. Ronaldinho is actually my favorite football player of all time. And I'm a Real Madrid fan.
Been a fan of Barcelona since Ronaldinhos second year there, he was magical, and always had a smile on his face, I've memorized the commentary of his bicycle kick against Villarreal from rewatching it so much, he's one of the reasons UA-cam is so big, people kept coming on UA-cam to watch his videos
@Riverxq323 yeah, but unfortunately because it's at an inferior league, we don't know for sure if it's also because his opponents are less technical than La Liga, allowing his abilities to flourish more.
Neymar underachieved in terms of accolades, but his peak is criminally underrated. In terms of pure footballing ability, at his peak he was easily a top 10 of all time. Even at psg, even though large parts of the spotlight belonged to Mbappe, Neymar was in my opinion the best on the team and in the best world while he was healthy and motivated.
Michi it’s funny cause I’m 23 also, also Venezuelan and I’d say I’m tied with you as biggest Barca fans, and I adore Neymar also, years of watching prime MSN, loving Messi also, but Neymar being my fav player ever, watching Santos and Barca compilations all the time, I’d style my hair like Neymar, got piercings cause him, would play left wing when I played football in real life, just funny what we have in common, especially the 23 and Venezuelan and Neymar haha, love your content man, my fav Barca UA-camr, always give me a good laugh too
And also I was so upset and disappointed when Neymar left but still couldn’t hate him, the fact he was able to make me watch psg games showed how much I loved him as a played even though it hurt, unlike dembele who I just straight hated how he left, but thank god, cause he made way for lamine yamal
The thing i hate about how people talk about neymar is how they act like when he would get injured they act like it invalidates all of his performances beforehand. Like he wasn’t playing like one of the best players before each time before the injury. And Neymar has the longevity in europe he was world class his entire time at barca and psg that’s 10 years of longevity.
@@richardjuarezd if u watch michi a lot like I do, in one of his earlier videos he said Salah might be better than Ronaldinho. I do agree Neymar is a better footballer than Salah but I would take Salah career any day of the week, plus he is en route to win ballon dor
the only what if for me is regarding the injuries 17/18 he gets injured before the second leg against Madrid, 18/19 he's injured for the RO16 against united, and 22/23 he's injured for the second leg against Bayern.
The thing with Neymar is that god damn move to PSG. He won just about everything with Barca and was part of an unstoppable trio ready to build a legacy and then he went to a league that no one rates or cares about. After Barca it only mattered if Neymar won a UCL or an international trophy because any domestic success in France is expected
He certainly underachieved and I will have always bitterness against him due to leaving Barça but people hating him and saying flipping Salah and Hazard is better than him and that he was never good enough is asinine. I still think Ronaldinho was better tho
R9 underachieved yes due to that knee injury. But what people love about R9 is him fighting through adversity and winning Brazil their last ever World Cup. Neymar can’t say that
Neymar scored 400 goals and 250 plus assists, Neymar also won 30 trophies and is Brazil's all time leading scorer, Neymar is definitely a top 30 player of all time
I don't know... I have a different way of looking at things. I can agree Neymar is a top 10 talent of all time. I can entertain the idea he's a top 5 talent of all time. But in my eyes football, which is a competitive sport, is different from a talent contest. Because football is competitive and because it's a team sport, the single most important thing for every player who's out on that pitch is to contribute to their team winning the biggest trophies. Neymar was amazing for thar 2015 UCL, probably the 2nd biggest contributor on the team, but other than that no contributions to S tier trophies. Say what you will about the Brazil team Neymar played in, but there are three things no one can deny: 1. Brazil is the greatest international team in football history 2. Neymar played alongside some of the greatest players of the 21st century such as Marcelo, Dani Alves, Casemiro, or Thiago Silva, and alongside youngsters who have proven they can show up in the biggest moments in the biggest competitions like Vini and Rodrygo 3. The Brazil generation Neymar played in was good enough to win the Copa America without him in 2019 One thing I respect Messi for is he understood that these individual awards at international tournaments don't mean squat and if he wants to have a legacy in that aspect he needed to get it over the line and actually win the biggest international trophies without any excuses. So when I look at a player who's regarded by many as a top 10 greatest players of the century with 1 major contribution to an S tier trophy and I look at other players this century that have gone leaps and bounds ahead of that, there's just no way I can place Neymar that high. The fact that Vini Junior who's got a fraction of the talent Neymar has, managed to be a key contributor to 2 S tier trophies, including being the main contributor for one of them... I just can't man... he just had to do better in his career, no two ways around it. I agree that so-called individual awards hold very little weight in and of themselves, I don't hold that against Neymar at all, I don't think they really matter that much
Football is a team sport. You cannot blame Neymar that his teammates weren’t good enough to win trophies, and I’m talking in the club level. 17/18 Neymar in the champions league group stage is genuinely one of the best ucl campaigns ever. The reason he didn’t win the ucl that season? PSG sucked and they went against Madrid, which btw Neymar also played exceptional that game. He has contributed to so many trophies and campaigns that the reason why he didn’t win more is because of the defense his team had and who he went up against. Neymar had some of his best years in PSG, granted his lack of consistency and injuries did hurt him alot and for me that would be the key reason why I consider him a “what if” As of right now, don’t mention vini in the same breath as ney please
Feels like Neymar career went by so fast 😢 like none of these players won’t have the influence Neymar had. You know how good you had to be to be nominated in the balon dor while playing in Brazil ? Neymar had people tuning into the Brazilian league ! He had kids (me back then) constantly watching those santos UA-cam edits) you just had to be there. As a Barcelona fan getting the news Neymar joining my club made me so happy and hurt me more when he left than when Messi left.
i feel like neymar will not get injured at all , playing for a team he actually loves with fans that love him , in his country with his people , i think this might revive his career for another 2 super high level seasons in europe but thats only if he were to go to a club he likes which is basically just barca and we all know they won't sign him so idk it would be cool to see him win a libertadores or something at least
I used to hate on him but now i appreciate him more everyday. I still hate him slightly because his talent is much more than what he did, he literally had GOAT potential, not just a generational talent.i hate how he put himself in such situations where people submitted to the recency bias. Neymar is NOT hazard or salah or bale. He was a great player as long as he was on the pitch
looking at Neymar's talent and ability, he definitely underachieved in his career. There were stretches in certain seasons where he was the best player in the world but he was never the definitive best player during a whole season. obviously, his injuries during his PSG career left him unable to complete consistently but in a way he did contribute to it by himself. He went to PSG where he could basically do whatever he wants. He didn't take care of himself fitness wise and then he paid the price for it. It's such a sad story. Neymar should have been the the heir to the GOAT throne but in the end he wasn't. That's why he is one of the biggest What ifs for me.
