    You are the best, I just picked up a singer 221, and I also have a singer 301,the 301 I found in the trash riding my bicycle 15 years ago, I just started oiling it to do some upholstery , it is in New condition ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, being a mechanic and welder has helped me, but I could not do it without you ! Rob

    Great video, Jenn. Excited for the arrival of my machine. I have to laugh. I think my mother had oil in her supplies. Don't know how often she used it or if she even greased the gears. I sure do wish I had that machine today. Wonder what happened to it? I hope she didn't put it in the trash!!! When it didn't work for her anymore some tender loving care may have kept her from having to get rid of it. I doubt it ever occurred to have to have it serviced. Probably didn't want to spend the money. We have so much more information today that folks in days gone by didn't have. If my parents were still livng they'd be amazed by all that can be learned on the internet. Thank you for this. I'll be following your tutorial to keep my machine in great condition. I'm so impressed that you do this work. Rebecca

      Just got my first Feather Weight (221) this fall. I found one on FaceBook Marketplace in my local area and it reminded me of when I was eight yrs old and admired my aunt’s Feather Weight. Well it took me 65 yrs or so to get my own but am enjoying my “splurge” immensely. I ordered the maintenance kit and just completed my first session of greeting and oiling my machine. Your step by step tutorial was perfect. It runs like a charm and noticeably quieter than before. Thank you for posting such a helpful video!

      Thanks, I left out a couple of things. Another viewer pointed it out, so glad they did! All I can say is I rushed through that filming and it showed. Lesson learned.

      You are so welcome! When you said you would be training some others on Featherweight maintenance I wanted to get it fixed right away! Left out oiling the lower bushings and the hook race. Those are important!

    Very clear video , only one mistake , one place on the needle bar doesn't need oiling i.e. the clamp that is locked on the needle bar. I am sure you are aware of that 6mins 55 secs.

      Yes, I got a little happy with the oiling didn't I? At least it doesn't hurt anything, but not needed for sure! I didn't notice I did that until you mentioned it, must be the working and talking at the same time that gets to me :)

    I love your channel and am so glad Bob steered me here. I'm following along on a 221- K7 (maybe) who was rewired when the original owner moved stateside. It has a few differences. I love being able to back you up and start you over. The needle bar took 21 tries to get it timed. So glad you didn't mind repeating yourself so often. :)
    There is a little slot at the top of the nose plate where it looks like the original part was a hook. I found a broken piece of plastic in the case that looks like it might have rubbed off the little hole in the nose. Should I keep looking for a parts diagram and/or piece or just glue the triangle shaped plastic back on? It does seem to rattle a bit. This is the only 221 I've seen up close so I've nothing to compare.

      Hi! I am having trouble picturing the piece of plastic you are thinking came from the nose. If you want, send me a pic to my email, jen@sewingmachinerehab.com and maybe once I see what you are talking about I can be of better help.

    My first FW was a celery. Do you have a tutorial for greasing that one?

    • @SewingMachineRehab
      @SewingMachineRehab  11 місяців тому +3

      Hello! I don’t have that video yet, I can tell you that because it is entirely belt driven the only thing you will grease is the motor ports. And just a tip, whatever you do, do not get any oil or grease on the internal belt. Those belts were meant to last the life of the machine and they are so difficult to replace that I would never attempt it. There are oil points on the machine, the next time I have one in the shop I will have to make a video on showing how to oil it up!

      Thanks for the heads up! I’ll be careful when doing a spa day on my old girl.

    Question. Why does my fabric feed through crooked?

    • @SewingMachineRehab
      @SewingMachineRehab  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi, it could be that the feed dogs are not straight in the needle plate, they are not at the right height or you don’t have enough pressure on the presser foot. Check out those things and let me know if you think one of them is what the problem is.
