This is so helpful!! I’m very new to all this, but have had my story/characters in my head for so long, just struggling with knowing how/what template/boxes to use 😅 I’m going to binge all your videos now lol! 😄
Good stuff man! Actually you’re articles before lead me to doing ZOMBIEYEARS and using comics press and now on the verge of pushing it further on line webtoon
I definitely appreciate the videos about process. I love Procreate and ArtStudio Pro on the iPad, but I can't seem to break free of Photoshop either, I can't seem to make up my mind:-/ Thanks again, God bless:-)
This was extremely helpful! But I really want to know if you could use graphic design and fonts just by using Procreate instead of switching to Photoshop on your laptop.
My work process is similar on Webtoons. I want to buy an ipad pro because I've never drawn on a screen and I don't want to be stuck in my office home all the time. I also think it could help me to optimize my work in some way.
hi man gretavideo and your ideas of puzzles are really cool Remind me of the choose your adventure books, . Actually I'm not a huge comic fan , I have more of a film and anime preference so I've had this idea to some how mix a comic with a simple gif animation. (flickering lights, police cars sirens, rain, fog, smoke, etc,) but don't have a clue on where to start or how to make something like that. Any pointer would be appreciated. Thank you.
Procreate also has some animation features you can search for lots of tutorials here on UA-cam! - If your really want to get into it seriously, I suggest learning Adobe After Effects! There are tons of animators making really cool things in After Effects. Good luck!
Hii!!! This vid is so helpful though its already 2020 so i would like to ask if there has been any significant changes with your process like for example procreate now supports Text etc. :) i would love to hear it!! ❤❤❤
Thank so much! You're right! I have changed a little of my process for making digital comics, especially since I've been running 7x7comics.com and experimenting with format for a year now or so. I really would like to do an update for this video or a new series. Just have to find some dedicated time! -- I still find lettering and sound effect stuff to be better done in Photoshop for me. I kind of use Photoshop (or you could really use any program like Photoshop) as a staging ground for he "master" file. From that file I can then export slices for Webtoon, or I could setup the print-ready files for a print collection if I wanted to, and then just tuck the master file away on a backup for later. I guess if you're thinking really long term, having a system is the best way!
@@DJCoffman thanks so much for your reply! Yes, pls! I'll be looking out for an updated video. :) Im an aspiring creator, I am still finding a way where i can do everything just by using procreate and my ipad. So i really find ur vid so helpful! ❤
I tried using clip studio paint for making my webtoon, but I’m more familiar with procreate so I wanted to try and find a way to make comics on procreate. My problem is the comics come out so pixelated. It’s incredibly annoying and if you have any tips on being able to draw on smaller panels without it being all pixelated I would be so grateful. Thank you very much
Try resampling the entire canvas by doubleing the original size of both dimensions (just times both dimensions by two) and then do all your drawing. (Click the tool bar, then canvas settings) after you do all of your drawings and you're ready to splice and finalize it, go back to the same settings, DONT CROP, but RESAMPLE CANVAS to its original dimensions and it should turn out okay! I wouldn't recommend doing anything more than doubling it or else when you resample it back to it's original dimensions it could lose some of its quality. Hopefully this helps, and sorry if I'm wrong!
I’m thinking about learning how to draw and eventually do comics, I am thinking about the new 4th Gen 12.9” iPad but it’s so expensive. Do you know any cheaper iPads that will be just as good as that and that uses procreate? Also what size and iPad did you use in this video?
Try buying a used on on ebay. Even the very first ipad pro will serve you well and do a fine job with drawing comics. May be a little slower with saving files, but Procreate still works like a dream on the old ones. I would stick to iPad Pro for procreate and drawing and avoid regular iPads, just due to better pressure sensitivity and other tech specs.
I use Photoshop to chop. But in Procreate it could be done by opening a 800x1280 canvas and pasting in your art from the other canvas a block at a time and saving out. In Photoshop (as you see in the video) i can use the slicing tool and export the images all at once for upload.
RainyNights I heard you sign in to webtoon at there website instead of the app. There’s a video for it on UA-cam how to upload it by mobile phones and tablets.
Sorry I somehow missed this comment. For webtoon I would double the pixel width, so 1600w then as tall as it would let me within Procreate. usually 12000 - 15000 pixels tall. 300 dpi.
Question : Does anyone know how to chop it and get all the files and stuff but withought using a computer just an ipad......i dont have any computers home~ thx!
I prefer Procreate and doing my lettering in Photoshop. BUT I know other cartoonists that do everything in ClipStudio, but I don't want to pay the $80 a year to use it on the iPad. ProCreate is only 7.99 on the app store! :)
Yeah I’ve been searching for an alternative to clip studio for just text..affinity designer is also a great lettering app and it’s a one off payment. (( not to mention, you can keep vector text/edit the kerning etc. )) Initially, you can do finish work on af designer but it’s not as natural as procreate. I tweeted procreate about a text tool and they’ve replied! It’s in the works!! Fingers cross we get it soon!!
@@teapham9109 Oh! Super nice! That would solve a lot of issues and make it a pretty solid comics program to use. Even if we have to draw our own word balloons still.

Yes, so my procreate files are drawn within the canvas size of 1600 width× 16375 height. This was the largest pixel height I could make in Procreate. I end up with about 3 of those chunks that size for these episodes of Secret Forces.
While in this video I show chopping via Photoshop which is the fastest way, you could export your Jpegs direct from Webtoon, but you'd have to make sure your "slices" were the 800x1280 blocks that webtoon requires. They don't auto re-size on there yet. (they should!)
I was poor once too! So I feel that!!! You're in luck though as there are several free options which are similar. I actually use gimp for photo editing already! :) I guess I’m wondering if I can do all the steps on my iPad in procreate? I don’t have a Mac laptop, so I’m struggling with the uploading process.
@@samanthasautter7419 It's possible to do all the steps but might be a little slower. One way you could achieve it would be to set a new canvas in Procreate to 800x1280 pixels (72dpi) then open your larger art file in Procreate. Use the select tool to select your panel, then copy (three fingers swiped down brings up the copy/paste/cut menu) - copy. Then switch back to your 800x1280 canvas, three-finger swipe down and select PASTE- size it down to fit the canvas shape. Then export a JPEG out, maybe call it block1.jpg, then continue the process for each panel. You would do this same thing for each element Webtoon needs for an episode, Your Thumbnail 160x151px etc. so YES, it is possible to do, just will take some patience. I don't know however if you can update your webtoons dashboard through iPad Safari, but you could try the Chrome Browser for iPad and it should allow you to navigate to your photo roll or folders on iPad to upload your slices.

After doing episodes and episodes of WEBTOONs, your iPad storage must get cluttered. How do you clear up space? Do you delete the original artwork after you post it?
You can airdrop your files to your computer or put on a backup drive. I'm barely using any space on mine, and could also use the base storage ipad I would think for sure.
