I dont think its possible to explain the impact the Temptations had on the music scene. If you listen to the albums Eddie Kendricks and avid Ruffin shared leads. That was part of their greatness. Same group but different sounds.
If you haven't seen it yet, i know you would LOVE the movies "The Temptations" and also "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." I saw both online, and then bought my own copies of each. If you love the Temps and Motown, you would absolutely enjoy these so well done movies!
Vickie Lewallen. It was originally broadcast on Showtime about 5-6 years ago. I thought it would be on Netflix but I guess not. I hope you are able to see it. It is a gem. Good luck.
The greatness of The Temptations was every member could actually sing and take lead. Their harmonies were so tight with Melvin killing down low and Eddie soaring over the top with the middle blend. They were one, if not the only group of that time where different members shared lead vocals and still make hit after hit. The first song where all the voices were featured was “The Way You Do the Things You Do”, which became their first hit. The first song where each member took lead was “Cloud Nine”, which became Motown’s first Grammy. All standing over 6’1, can dance, had style and class. No one will ever come close. Rolling Stones’ most greatest male vocal group of all time!
I’d like to beg to differ. It wasn’t til around my last 3 years of high school that there was anyone I’d consider dating, and even then there wasn’t much. I wanted something that could be real and long term. I was friends with my first gf from middle school and when we got together it lasted through nearly all of high school because we were loyal and honest and we are still super close.
"Since I Lost My Baby" was just on the radio. Try that tune as well. There I was, 16 years old, cool enough to dig this! And the moves! As said before, we drum corps guys just loved the sharp moves. Yes, that's David. Yes, sometimes gotta humble yourself sometimes! That way, you can still be together from 1975 to today!
Yes, that is the amazing David Ruffin on lead vocals! He was so magnetic and had amazing vocal ability! He had a tumultuous love relationship with Tammi Terrell! David and Eddie Kendrick toured with Hall and Oates in the eighties and it was quite a comeback for two of the best Temptations ever! ❤️❤️
The Temps have always been what we call our “family signature music”! My husband and I have taken the kids several times to see them! Well, Otis is the only original left, but, it’s still lots of fun! The movie about their career is amazing!🥰
Hi Christina! The movie is actually called “The Temptations”. It’s such an interesting story, and many times, very sad with what they all went through……😁
The “Temptations “ were the best group out forever. And David Ruffin was one of the Temptations best lead singer., but so was Eddie Kendrick, and Paul Williams, but last but not least Dennis Edward. They are all Legends. Their early music still ROCKS today like it did when they first sung it.
I have loved The Temptations for such a long time, trying to do their dance moves while singing is a Challenge!🥰 Check The Temptations & The Four Tops doing their singing & dancing battles on video back in the late 60’s & in the 70’s - they are out of this world 💜🇨🇦😻☮️🌎💥💗
I love that y'all do your research on artists like the Temptations so that you're more informed before reacting to them. Also, having seen the Temptations in concert a couple of times about 20 years apart, I can say that even though they're older and it's no longer the original lineup, they're still amazing artists with some of the best songs ever to come out of Motown. Great rabbit hole to go down.
What you're experiencing with the Temptations with their Great Sound and their beautiful dance moves was the very Niche that Motown brought to music back in that era and as great as The Temptations are I would say they were the greatest R&B group of the era and probably in the top 325 greatest groups of all time but there are a lot of other great R&B groups of the era too and I'm going to list them for you in my next comment so you can see some other groups that you would really like whenever you get around to doing the review of them. I won't get it give you any of the songs but you can certainly do a search on UA-cam and find some of their greatest music I'll just give you the names of the groups.
Classic! The audience applause drowns out the beginning of the song in this clip, which stands out for its desperate sparseness on the studio recording. The single kicks off with a drum flourish and a simple cymbal ride while David Ruffin knocks out the opening verse alone with only a brief piano riff to mark the bars. Then the whole band comes together for the chorus and wow, just wow. Awesome!
My favorite Temptations song. Thank you!. To say this group is talented and innovative would be an understatement. Everyone tried to simulate this band's sound and dance moves. TLC..would later borrow this song's title only and create their own unique lyrics.
I love your reactions you guys are great are great, but the music of the sixties seventies and early eighties and is the best, funk, soul and R&B ,you want here that kind of music today. You guys are in for a treat.. Mel. I like your singing when you say Meeeel, it's your signature keep it up .
There was no one ever, like The Original Temptations ! No one else came close. So much of their early music, was composed by Smokey Robinson .-----------THE best !
This reminds me of my childhood kitchen ✨ my mother would play Motown albums while we cooked and cleaned. Great memories So happy to know they are being appreciated by the next generation
1972 I'm hitchhiking around the USA and one night I get a ride from this black dude his name was Darin anyways we're in Kansas here I am with hair to my waist and Darin with a fro bout 3ft in diameter we're smoking and joking and he puts in a 8 track of temptations and oncoming poppa was a rolling stone that was my first time hearing the temptations me and Darin parted ways about 200 miles later, never forgot Darin and been a fan of the temptations ever since. I'm like 68yrs old now and I've kept that memory all these yrs. It was a good night and a great time with my buddy Darin
I wore this record out playing it over and over and doing my dance moves. Dropping down and doing the splits and jumping back up was a thing Ruffin, James Brown and we would do at the school dance to empress the girls. Great fun and wonderful times to be a teenager.
Love Temptations. I listen to oldies in the car and these guys always get me going. 70 years old and still know every word. Dance like them, makes your heart feel good. Love them and Motown!!!!!!
Smokey had David singing 2 octaves above his register in this song. In the book, Otis said theat at the end of the song, David was drenched in sweat, and his glasses were sideways on his face. But a hit came from it.
The Temptations, what could you say, just incredible music from one of Motown's many hit makers. Guys please give a listen to Paul Williams singing lead on " Don't Look Back". I loved David Ruffin's lead, but i equally loved Paul Williams, just wish he sang more leads with the Temptations. Give a listen to " It's You That I Need " too, another gem with David as the lead. May they both Rest in Peace.
Paul Williams sang with the Temptations also listen to don't look back.they were the best.. and I'm sure happy to see young people are listening to some of the greatest.
This song, "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" was the start of their collaboration with producer Norman Whitfield. Before this, Smokey had been writing and producing hits that put them at the top -- "The Way You Do the Things You Do," "My Girl," and "Since I Lost My Baby" among others -- but this track broke through with Norman producing and so ended their association with Smokey. They went on to record some of their most recognized work under Whitfield's production, including their first two Grammy winners, "Cloud Nine" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."
Just crossed my mind the colossal difference in how women are viewed in music back then and now. Sad really what popular music has become. This is a great old tune, thanks.
We had so many great variety shows on TV back in the day, the singing groups had great dance moves! Always loved it. Hope you can catch a video of Gladys Knight and the Pips, the Pips had some fabulous dance moves also.
01/31/2022 Back in the day we had 8 track machines in our cars. A couple of us had the temps on a couple of tapes. WE would blast them wide open without amps and with paper speakers. Some made it speakers and some didn't. Sometimes the catholic girls would get out of the car and dance just to tease us impressional boys. What a time we had. Back then no one cared about race other than the drag races on friday night at the track. Please enjoy this eras music. Far less perfect than todays machine music. Don
I was fortunate enough to see this movie(temptations) in middle school in like '98. The teacher Mr Davis was a musician and heavily pro black. The school was mostly inner city black kids. After 2 weeks of showing it to the school we used to form groups and go around singing temptations songs to the girls. And they would sit and listen!!🤣 none of us could sing!! We did that for like a month. 🤣🤣Never turned away from old school ever since....good times
Love the Temptations or as we called them back in the day “The Tempting Temptations”. Love your hair Mel. You always look fabulous but you are exceptional today.
😂 I really enjoy your first reactions so much! I get a kick out of it when you guys stop the song and comment and analyze each word or movement! Yeah those were the good old days. That said, it's so hard for me to believe that you guys have never heard some of these songs before! 🤔 Is there a background that you two are willing to share about your life as to WHY you have never heard many of these songs? 🤨 I'll click the like button and then wait for your reply. 🤨⌛
The greatest MALE GROUP OF ALL TIME
David Ruffin made you believe it.He sang with passion and soul.

I agree both movies are excellent. Also for Motown fans there is a great documentary called “Hitsville: The Making of Motown”. Worth a watch.
@@Lakeshore14 is that one on Netflix or something? I'm not seeing that one on UA-cam, i'd like to watch it.

Bernadette is the best 4-T song!
I love seeing you two enjoying great music for the first time...and I love the connection between you two...bless you both
david ruffin lead singer "WALK AWAY FROM LOVE" an absolute stunner for reaction ; )
The Way You Do the Things You Do ~ another great song ~

This was a great song to dance to back in the day.
For me a day without the Temptations is like a day without Fleetwood Mac...... I don’t wanna experience a day without either somewhere in it!
My favorite Temps song! Thanks for reacting to this!
Love the Temptations. I went to the Original Temptations Concerts 3 times back in the 60’s and 70’s
