It was my understanding from civics class that all territorial laws were abandonded at the time of Statehood UNLESS specifically carried forward in the new state constitution.

For all the RIGHT to LIFE minds out there: THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE MURDER OF CHILDREN. Let's get that point straight from the start. That's like saying the idea of putting gasoline at a lower price is the same as global warming or saying "Homelessness" is a crisis. It's a "Cause and Effect" situation. One thing has to happen in order for the effect to happen as a result. Lowering the price of Gasoline is a cause to help the economy. One effect may be that more people drive and emit more carbon pollution into the air. Being Homeless, in and of itself, may be a problem but it is really the EFFECT of some other problem - like medical debt, domestic violence, alcoholism, mental health etc. etc.
This issue on ABORTION is about WHO has a right to tell someone else what they can or cannot do with regard to personal health care. If you don't want Abortion to be legal, YOU are paving the way for something else to come later that may impact you in ways you don't want. When the government says that all people with IQ scores below 100 will not go to college, and will have a lower minimum wage established than higher IQ people. HOW WILL YOU FEEL? If your IQ is above 100, it may not affect you directly, but it could affect your spouse or your children. When the government says that no one will be allowed to have any cosmetic surgery including implants, tummy tucks and/or tattoos, how will you feel? You're opening the door for all of that and more. No one should be able to tell you what goes in or comes out of your body except you. That's what this is about.

I never thought highly of Arizona but this gives me some glimmer of hope that there are intelligent and sensible people left in that state run by a mob of idiots.

Believe it or not, there have been a few sane people in the state from time to time, but as soon as they find opportunities to get out, they get out and don't look back. It's a state ripe for choosing nin-com-poops and racists. Just be glad Evan Mecham (the only AZ Gov. to be impeached) wasn't still the governor now or he'd have women back in the middle ages. Fife Symington (convicted of Bank Fraud and Perjury) didn't mind women working...it was just more pension money he could steal. Was it Jane Hull who used the state plane and DPS officers for security to visit her grandchildren (almost every weekend). Janet Brewer made the top-ten list for worst governors in the country (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington [CREW] - 2013). So it seems that Kari Lake would have fit right in. However better voters prevailed in this case. Actually, it's an error to call the state a RED state. Out of 24 governors, 66% have been Democrat. In one period, a Democrat governor was elected for 6 consecutive changes of the office. And for 3 changes in another period. Only twice in the state's history has a Republican governor succeeded another Republican governor.

Voting all blue could mean that you'd end up with 20 thousand illegal migrants camped in your yard, taking away your jobs and eating your child's school lunches. There's not way to label everyone red or blue. There is good and bad in both. You have to look at EACH individual candidate and make an intelligent decision. VOTING all one way or voting the straight ticket is what got us to where we are right now - POLARIZED and DIVIDED. Way too many politicians have supported their fellow party members when they knew it was wrong. Trump is the perfect example of that. It has been going on long before he became a politician but he legitimized it. As wrong as it is, he made it seem like the right thing to do. this abortion issue is getting out of hand.. the supreme court reversed the ruling on 'roe vs wade' which is problematic in itself but there would be no reversal if no case was brought to them, so then the preceding law before that ruling takes effect as how the state supreme court decided when someone brought the case to them and now the governor reverses the deactivation or activation of that law.. so what does it mean? equal branches of government certainly does not mean this, state legislation keeps challenging the law, the supreme court is following due process, governor executes the law, but what law? if there is one branch that is to be blamed, which branch is it? judicial, executive or legislative? or none of the above, the public is to be blamed.. i can't say for sure if among the public there are certain private indiduals influential enough to cause this, if there is one, i don't have knowledge on who it was..b

I believe that only 2 Republicans in the AZ Senate and 3 Republicans in the house PLUS all of the Democrats were able to get this passed the State legislature so the Governor could sign it. Now I believe that their is a 15 week abortion ban in Arizona which now goes into effect. It is sad that most of the GOP is firmly stuck in the distance past.
They couldn't have repealed this law without Republicans, you should be thanking them. And 15 weeks is very reasonable, thats about the standard in Europe.
@@ericw9702 I was simply pointing out of 31 State House and 16 Senate Republicans and only 5 of them voted to overturn the 1864 law. Thus 42 Republicans wished to keep the old law. I also wanted to say that there is still limits on when an abortion can be preformed, since some may think that with the 1864 law overturned there would be no limits at all. Just some more context to the news article.

Because sometimes, during a pregnancy, things can go wrong and might require an abortion. If the woman dies or is left infertile, how is she supposed to try again to start that family she wants? This isn't rocket science.
