It's so interesting hearing you talk about non-RPG games! (and also using the "many RPGs" aspect similar to my collection video from a few weeks back 😉) The 3DS Fire Emblem games are among the best RPGs on the platform (although Fates is somewhat controversial). I played through Awakening - it is fantastic. Kingdom hearts 3D is still worth experiencing if you like the 3D effect on the 3DS. Otherwise the HD 2.8 Prologue is the way to playing it. With regards to Persona Q2, because it was the last 3DS game to release physically in the West (outside of limited prints) in 2019, it was never commerically viable to dub it with over 20 voice actors. If ATLUS ports the game to Switch like the Etrian Odyssey Origins, I can see them going back to dub it. and on the point of "half-localising," this perspective seems to mostly be held by Americans. In Europe we're used to not getting games localised into languages other than English, yet alone non-English dubs, or not even released here at all. Only having English subtitles is often the only way many games are commercially viable to localise outside of Japan to begin with, as English is more accessible to the world than Japanese. That said, this is defo changing with companies like ATLUS and XSEED adding other European languages as standard to their newest releases as well as rereleases of older titles (such as Persona 3 and 4).
It's funny, I literally had this video queued up to launch the SAME WEEK you launched your 3DS collection video... I was like okay, now she's REALLY going to think I'm copying! 😂 But I ended up holding off because of some other videos, so it worked out fine. And you're right. I definitely have a bit of American privilege when it comes to enjoying "full" localization of Japanese games. But I hope people in other regions start demanding the right treatment, rather than American audiences starting to settle for less. I think we should be able to have fully localized Japanese games in English, in German, in French, and on and on. There are willing actors and writers out there -- let's get 'em employed! 😊

Yes!! Still love Pokémon even though the latest we’re disappointing… Also, can I just echo your localization POV and say that I agree with you on a deeply PROFOUND level!! I’ll never understand why some people are so opposed to English voice over in JRPGs that get localized! One series that comes to mind is Atelier - most of their more recent entries only translated the text. I guess it’s probably cost issues? But I mean come on… they lost me as a player for sure 😅 awesome video!
Not really a jrpg, but no Zelda in your collection at all? Im not a big fan of pre-BOTW zeldas, but A Link Between Worlds was a delightful experience and an absolute must play 3ds game!
I USED to own Link Between Worlds, but at some point I must have sold it... That would have been during the Dark Years, when I wasn't playing games as much....😶
I sometimes feel you're more collector than player of rpgs T.T. We'll need to get that Fire Emblem Birthright upgraded to the special edition containing all 3 paths, that or emulate it as you can't get the 3rd path anymore. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (like another suggested), Persona Q1 & 2, Fantasy Life (as you have 2 coming soon), and where's the REST of the Etrian Odyssey series? Some would argue Ever Oasis and Final Fantasy Explorers should be on that list.
Very nice collection, I've played a lot of these games but recently off loaded my 3ds collection, I actually still actively collect for the DS to this day, had it from around a year after release and still play on it a lot. Regarding localisation and voice acting, I think it can be a blessing not having voice acting, ofen they're way too syrupy and false for my liking, Bravely default was an absolute groan fest to me, horrible. Japanese voice acting can be more fun imo, though all options can be good, no voice acting is fine with me. I actually love older games with their graphics being a bit outdated, I like to be able to fill in the gaps myself!! I would love more Kingdom Hearts on Switch. If your never going to get into a collection you may as well lose it imo, you will never be at a loss for games that have an appeal to play , so you may as well go for those systems and generes you are most passionate for, they'll still break your wallet and end up gathering dust- but at least it will be just the stuff you love. 🐕
If you aren't a handheld gamer, why do you have a massive 3DS collection? No shade, genuinely curious about what impels you to do it... Edit: I enjoyed the format, for what it's worth! The 3DS is easily in my top 3 favorite consoles ever, but I appreciate that not everyone is going to like the form. Perhaps look into emulating the games you own just to give you a more comfortable way to play them? Devil Survivor: Overclock is my favorite 3DS game, the second is also great (better in many ways) but I personally liked the story and characters better in the first. The only random 'gap' I'd say is Radiant Historia, which is a fantastic game and a must play for JRPG lovers in my opinion.
It's complicated... I really want to experience the games themselves, but the form factor impedes my desire to actually do that. It's not impossible, though - I've definitely completed some big RPGs on the 3DS (and the DS before that). But it takes me longer to actually get to them. Oh, and Radiant Historia was another I ended up reviewing for a site, so I've played it and have it digitally, I just missed the boat on the physical and then it got SUPER expensive...😫
It is, DQ1 was my first jrpg and still one of my favorites, I have beaten all of the DQ mainline games except 10 and fully endorse them all the slowest though are 7 and 9 imo but they do pick up as they go I did find bravely default slower and way more grind than any DQ
Im a big Fire Emblem fan so I wanted to share my thoughts on the 3DS games. They’re relatively hit or miss. Awakening is one of the best fire emblem games imo. Shadows of Valentia is excellent as well but then there’s Fates. Conquest is ok, definitely the best game to experience Fates, Birthright is incredibly easy but ok and though I haven’t played Revelations, I constantly hear that it’s the worst game in the franchise. If you get into FE I recommend going back into the back catalogue as well. The GBA games are great as are Path of Radiance for GameCube and Radiant Dawn for Wii (my personal favorite!)
@@JustTheGemsyeah they can be tricky to get! I got my copy of Path of Radiance online a few years back and found Radiant Dawn in a local game store near me after a few months of actively searching. Hopefully you get them some day!
Pokemon - umm you were NOT too old to get into it. I was 30 when I got Pokemon Ruby and over the last 30 years I have played all Pokemon games. Don't consider starting with Let's Go...try a real Pokemon main line game like one of the GBA or 3DS games. Ewww localized is usually much worse - subtitles rock. Most dubbed versions are really bad but occasionally they are decent - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was well done. Are you even a real gamer? Starting to wonder after the last couple videos.
The retro market really sucks right now and in the near future for the 00s and 10s games to be really expensive like what happened to the 80s and 90s games.
You can say it... Pokemon games are boring and not very good. They're all the same thing over and over. The only fire emblem game I have for the DS is the last fire emblem I bought which was Awakening. It was really fun. But the GameCube and Wii ones are my favorite. I have only ever played one SMT game, that is V, and really wasn't my thing. Bravely default is great but the end was definitely a slog. Haven't played bravely second or bravely default 2 but I hear they're both even better. I'm the 1/1000 dumb dumb aren't I? I played the original kingdom hearts and found it so repetitive and annoying combat wise I never finished it and never played another one. Not really into the monster hunter games. And I'm annoyed that they're not putting any resources into breath of fire... I feel a trend here of me saying I'm not a fan of the games you are showing. I played Xenoblade 1 on the Wii and wasn't a fan. Gotout into the first open area doing quests for the town and then were like "go to the goblin Town Way far away on the other side of the map, fight through all the goblins to find my sandwich they stole" so I do that and bring the sandwich back and they're like "cool next quest: go do the same thing only get me my shovel" and I'm like "what is this vanilla WoW? No thanks"... Really enjoyed alliance alive. I got the remaster on the switch though. I'm not a fan of the saga way of leveling but still highly enjoyed it. I have popoli crois on the psp but haven't played it, supposed to be great..I want the sequel. Do you have either version of Radiant Historia? If not go get a copy immediately my dude. Amazing game.
I appreciate hearing your thoughts even when we differ, honestly. You're definitely not among the 1/1000. 😄 I do own a physical of the original DS version of Radiant Historia, but I missed getting the 3DS version before it got ridiculously expensive, so I've only ever played that one digitally.
Your definition of localisation and translation is incorrect. Translation means to translate the japanese text mostly 1 to 1. Localisation is when you change sentences to reflect the culture of a country, supposed to change phrases and jokes. Nowdays often abused to push political opinions under the claim of "this is our culture" which is why there are a growing number of people who do not want localisation, especially with the growing interest in japanese culture which gets lost with many of them as well. Just say you want english voice acting and not just text, because it really has nothing to do with "localisation".
I think it works. Making changes to reflect cultural sensibilities extends to this as well. It's about giving me, an English-speaking American, the same experience as a Japanese player. If that means changing a joke to make it affect me the same way it impacts a Japanese player, then great. But I don't buy the whole "localizers are too woke" or whatever BS. They're localizing to the majority of Americans' tastes. They wouldn't localize that way if the majority of their audience didn't want it. If that offends you, well, I think that just means you're in the minority here my friend. Your best bet is to learn Japanese, though keep in mind that Japanese culture is beginning to liberalize as well.
Let's take a basic example, sushi changed to burger because that is more american, other changes include literal removing guns and cigaretts becoming lolipops. If sushi was used in the context of a restaurant preparing it in an improper way it can somewhat work with a burger but not as well as with sushi. And the fact that something like suhsi came to other countries is partly because changes like this were not allways made/people watched the original. See, i am in favor of actual cultural exchange and this is just a perfect situation for exactly that. I would call localisation a similiar experience but the change itself means it can not be the same. For an experience as close to the original as posible the only change would have to be connotational losses and a player/viewer to understand there culture to some extent and even that is not exactly the same, but close enough to call it as such in a relaxed setting. The next part about political agenda you claim as BS is an odd claim when you also claim that it has no influence and you named it woke. As evidence that it exists is not too hard to come by, let us take some examples again. Battlefield V promoted a women with a mechnical arm, during the second World War. Hogwarts Legacy had backlash because of the IPs creator but the game has changes she would not agree to. Baldurs Gate 3 has changes for races that are not working within the races framework as well as an obvious abudance of races/genders that are for and against eh player with everyone beeing "playercharacter sexual" for the smallest of actions, as well as sleeping with a bear (shudder). And a little reminder that it did not take long for mods that remove such changes to the worlds of both single player games emerged. It is obviously existing, The next question is if it was shoehorned in and World War 2 did not have such Soldiers nor did JK Rowling, a well known Turf, make Harry Potter to contain some elements, so this is a yes. Then you could ask where it is from, yada yada... The existance itself is a obvious thing at this point. Now if it changes sales is it's own story. As every game is different and plays to a different interest group comparisons between games really are just hints and evidence rather then prove. What might prove interest to some degree is the choice in the hands of the players, but that is rarely done by developers. Not to mention ESG money which also manipulates profit margins. But we have examples so let's use them. Battlefield V sold poorly in comparison of it's budget after heavy backlash. Hogwarts did sell great despite the backlash. Baldurs Gate 3 did sell but was the opposite situation. These games all had well done gameplay and that is likely the most important factor, especially for PC games. But there is also the fact that sales tend to go do not with the game that made the mistake but a game or more later. (at least for big IPs) To some degree, due to Battlefield V, as long as it works within it's framework and/or they do not know if it works sales should be fine. Makes it hard to prove which side is more people. Now if we just had player made mods to remove or add onto either side as well as download numbers for under the same conditions!

The 3DS Fire Emblem games are among the best RPGs on the platform (although Fates is somewhat controversial).
I believe Stella Glow to be as a hidden gem for a JRPG inspired by both FFT and FE with some Persona.
@@JustTheGems oh really? well it defo has worked out 😁and i completely agree!
Legend of Legacy is apparently getting a remaster.
Yeah! I may just grab that and play it on Switch or something.
DQ7 took me about 80 hours to complete.
That seems pretty manageable compared to what I was thinking. Is there a lot of side content in that?
@@JustTheGems i'm not too sure tbh. I did some of the side content, but mostly focused on the main story.
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And love 3DS games !
Thank you so much!!
@@JustTheGems Thank you for your reply ! If you are interested in the nostalgic game culture of Japan, please subscribe to the my channel !
Can you still get dlc tablets in dragon quest was it 7 or 8
I don't think so - with the 3DS eshop closing, I think that means all DLC for all games is just gone-zo.
@@JustTheGems the dlc for dragon quest 7 servers were not on the eshop servers people were able to do at after the eshop closed as proof I don't know if they turned of there servers it's benn about 200days since anyone said anything on Reddit
Loving the videos. Not sure what the 13 year old Snapchat photo filter effect thing is about though 😂
Keep it up!!.... Minus the filter...
Thanks! But what filter? I only do basic color correction, I don't know how to do anything fancier😅
@@JustTheGems hmmmmm, maybe it's my screen. Your other videos seem OK though. Buts it's like that over saturated "hide the pimples" type thing. But maybe I'm the culprit!! Who knows and who cares I guess. Literally binging your vids the now. Cheers!
I do use soft lighting (they're honestly just the cheapest lights I could find), maybe that's part of it!
Yes!! Still love Pokémon even though the latest we’re disappointing…
Also, can I just echo your localization POV and say that I agree with you on a deeply PROFOUND level!! I’ll never understand why some people are so opposed to English voice over in JRPGs that get localized! One series that comes to mind is Atelier - most of their more recent entries only translated the text. I guess it’s probably cost issues? But I mean come on… they lost me as a player for sure 😅 awesome video!
It's gotta just be the cost, but I wish they would prioritize that! It makes such a huge difference!
English localization is my jam!! Xenoblade 3 comes to mind for me❤
Not really a jrpg, but no Zelda in your collection at all?
Well, I'm always playing JRPGs. The problem is so many come out, and they take so long to play. No idea how I'd ever catch up.
Not a JRPG, but I recommend Ultimate NES Remix on 3DS.
Nice! I've played the combo pack on the Wii U, it's a ton of fun
🐕
Yeah, paring down the collection is my next phase in the process. Keeping only the games I'm really interested in.
Oh, and Radiant Historia was another I ended up reviewing for a site, so I've played it and have it digitally, I just missed the boat on the physical and then it got SUPER expensive...😫
if you can get through Bravely Default you can get through DQ7
I'll consider that an endorsement!
It is, DQ1 was my first jrpg and still one of my favorites, I have beaten all of the DQ mainline games except 10 and fully endorse them all the slowest though are 7 and 9 imo but they do pick up as they go
I did find bravely default slower and way more grind than any DQ
I'm always keeping my eyes out for the GameCube and Wii FE games. I'm even willing to pay market prices, but I just never see them out in the wild.
I might not be for you!
The retro market really sucks right now and in the near future for the 00s and 10s games to be really expensive like what happened to the 80s and 90s games.
It could happen!
I do own a physical of the original DS version of Radiant Historia, but I missed getting the 3DS version before it got ridiculously expensive, so I've only ever played that one digitally.

As we chanted in school: "Second is the best."
It is obviously existing,
The next question is if it was shoehorned in and World War 2 did not have such Soldiers nor did JK Rowling, a well known Turf, make Harry Potter to contain some elements, so this is a yes.
(at least for big IPs)
To some degree, due to Battlefield V, as long as it works within it's framework and/or they do not know if it works sales should be fine.
Makes it hard to prove which side is more people. Now if we just had player made mods to remove or add onto either side as well as download numbers for under the same conditions!
