We had some of the best, most creative, and memorable music of all in the 60's and 70's, and the Moody's were at the pinnacle among all those bands in that whole era. Timeless!
What I enjoyed the most about the Moodies and other 60's and 70's band, is the music and lyrics are deeper than the music we have now. The lyrics, the harmonies, the arrangements all take the listener to different places and the listener feels it in their soul. I feel their music.
@Jack, from Saginaw Glad you agree, Jack. Those years were phenomenally great years for music. There's some great music from other decades, too, but that music is what I still prefer listening to whenever I can. Peace!
What a fantastic period for music, and the Moody Blues provided so many great songs that are still enjoyed by so many people today. Their 60's and 70's albums are absolutely amazing, written by all the band members.
To HarriBest, Thank you! When we hear your reactions to this band’s music, you come across as thoughtful, forthright, and truthful. Without going into a detailed explanation, to the population watching these HarriBest videos I say there is a reason for the popularity of Moody Blues music from the 1960s to present. Carefully listen to every note and word in the music and guess what I mean.
Moody Blues? I couldn't click fast enough! They are my GOATS! Saw them November 2016 on their FLY ME HIGH tour. Best concert EVER in my then 62 years of life, and still today at 67! Harri, check out I'm Just A Singer in A Rock and Roll Band!
In 2018 they toured the US with the 2nd set being Days of Future Passed from beginning to end. There's a video, CD and download of their performance in Toronto that year. I did see one of their very lasts concerts in Vegas of 2018, after this tour Graeme retired and John & Justin went their separate ways. Justin has been doing acoustic shows, mostly in the US and John has a new band and is touring he did so prior to the pandemic and has several dates booked for next month. He also released new music and he has vinyl, CD and downloads of his new music and his solo concerts. John is the closest concert that represents the Moody Blues as he includes songs from Mike, Ray, Justin's Nights and Graeme recorded rendition of Late Lament. I've seen both Justin and John's solo concerts.
It's nice when someone gets it right. Moody Blues were the forefathers that set the bar for future prog rockers. Yes was next, and you know what they did for prog. It was incredible to be there at that begining, and witnessed the changes over the decades.
Just one more (important) part of my back-story. Can't begin to tell you how much a part they played through my formative years. Glad you're covering them.
Hi, thanks for reacting to The Moody Blues again. My favorite group! This is a demo version of "The Story in Your Eyes" not the studio version from the Every Good Boy Deserves Favour album however. The Moodies first seven albums are meant to be listened to in their entirety. Highly recommend if you ever have a chance ... Days of Future Passed 1967, In Search of the Lost Chord 1968, On the Threshold of a Dream 1969, To Our Children's Children's Children 1969, A Question of Balance 1970, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour 1971 & Seventh Sojourn 1972 (my personal favorite). Enjoy the ride. Cheers.
I have been a massive Moody Blues fan since 1967 when Days of Future Passed was released in England. The album wasn't released in the US until 1968, but I bought a copy, & wore it out. I especially love their first five albums, but Seventh Sojourn, & Octave were also very good. I was never as much a fan after Mike Pinder left the band after the recording of Octave in 1978. I didn't follow the band after they changed their music to keep up with the 80's, & 90's. The Moody's were the first rock band to record with a Philharmonic Orchestra, & they were also the first band to use a Meletron, which could replicate many Orchestra sounds.
My favourite album is To Our Children's......,but my favourite song is New Horizons from Seventh Sojourn, it's one of the most beautiful songs ever for me.
@@keithjones7390 We are definitely like minded. To our Childrens.... is also my favorite album. I also really love New Horizons. That is a beautiful song. I can put my Days album on my old Pioneer turntable and turn up my old Pioneer receiver hooked to old JBL speakers that I had when Seventh Sojourn came out, and get lost in their music all the way through Octave. I really like the song Driftwood on that album. Then there are the solo albums and the albums John Lodge and Justin Hayward put out like Blue Jays. I love the song Blue Guitar but my copy of Blue Jays is an earlier one and doesn't include that song. When my wife and I got married one of our songs was "For My Lady" written and sang by the late great Ray Thomas and off of the Seventh Sojourn album. There are far too many great songs to ever try to pick out a favorite. The Moody's were way ahead of their time. I was fortunate enough to see them six times before Mike Pinder left and five times after. They never disappointed.
seen them in concert 4 times in the 70's, once in the 80's twice in the 90's and once in the 2000's. have all their albums on vinyl and CD and 3 of the them on cassette! So Yeah They are my favorite band. With Pink Floyd, Heart and Uriah Heep coming a close second for me.
I love the Moody Blues. I got to see them in the 80s and they were so great. We arrived late, as they were playing "I know you're out there somewhere...."And I was like, here we are!!! Lol. They're brilliant. The Days of Future Passed album is amazing. Check it out.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! Now you're getting to feel what the Moody Blues are all about! You're getting to hear John Lodge's falsetto. I have mixed feelings watching this though. I saw the Moodies in many concerts and 2 of them are no longer with us ; Ray & Graeme. Bittersweet. "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock N Roll Band" is another rocker song from the Moodies..
A big part of the Moody Blues is for me Mike Pinder and his Melotron, putting a specialy atmosphere to the music. Also one of the few groups that had lyric with a meaning. Their 1969 LP To Our Children's Children's Children is my favorite Lp by them......with songs like Candle Of Life, Eternity Road, Out And In, Watching And Waiting just to name a few.
@@keithjones7390 Agree 100%. I think Gypsy was the best song they ever recorded. Although the bass and drums get drowned-out a bit, if you listen to the song repeatedly and get all the instruments “lined-up” in your head, the song is amazing and their is a newer extended version of the song available online too.
The Moody Blues one of those bands where you can choose 20 songs of theirs and get 20 different sounds and styles. most of the bands from the late 60's and 70's were able to do that because they were allowed to experiment with their sound. Not like a lot of todays bands where their sound all has to sound the same, very little experimentation.
The Moody Blues a great innovative band so far ahead of their time. To my ears I can hear that classic Moody Blues sound sends me straight back to the late 60's early 70's golden era of music. The main difference here is they turned up the distortion. Great song, great LP, great band. More Moody Blues please one of the pioneer groups of prog and concept albums.
My favorite Moodys song is "Melancholy Man". It's definitely NOT a rocker. But I love the descending melody line, and the countermelody part where they sing the verse and the chorus at the same time. Top it off with "The Balance" and it's the perfect end to yet another awesome Moodys album.
I'm in awe of you, I saw them once with Ponder still there, 3 more times they still had Ray Thomas, then once after Ray left. All were amazing shows, especially when they went out with the orchestra for all of Days of Future Passed. Great band! 🎵
@@vicprovost2561 My brother & his wife have done the Moody Blues cruise for yrs. (well, not since Covid). They love it. I have only seen them 5xs but listened to them since I was a little kid. I have 7 older siblings and the boys were all MB fans. My eldest bro (12 yrs older than me) was a fanatic.
This is my favorite band since 1972 freshman year at Rutgers University, New Jersey USA. I’ve met them several times over the decades. You must listen to their album Days of Future Passed. It’s the first concept album about the day in the life of one man. When music was available on albums we would turn off the lights, have plenty of candles and incense plus adult beverages and a bit of herb. When you’re by yourself you listen on headphones and read along with the lyrics and studied the album artwork. 🥰🎸🎶❤️
I wore out this album when I got it. Love the Moody Blues and had the pleasure of seeing them live in an amazing outdoor concert in Foxboro, MA. It’s one of my favorite memories. Great pick from Craig!🌺✌️
This is one of my favorite songs. Thank you for reacting to it. There are lots of great comments here, with many wonderful suggestions for more Moody Blues reactions.
I know the Moody Blues have some deep songs and I've been listening to them since I was a kid in the 60's, but this is probably one of my favorite songs by them. I saw them in 1987 on pier 84 in NY. Great concert.
Enjoying Justin Hayward. I am loving your reactions because you do the off beat songs. Please consider Threshold of a Dream. You will love it, what a message what a beautiful song. I'd love to hear what you think, no one else has done it.
It’s funny you don’t think it sounds like what you expected from the Moody Blues. I think it’s quintessential Moody Blues. Maybe that’s just because I remember how incredible they were, especially after Justin joined the band. I also loved Go Now, with Denny singing the vocals at that time.
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is my favorite of the Moody Blues Magnificent Seven albums, which range from Days of Future Past to Seventh Sojourn. But as another commenter said, these are albums which truly need to be listened by album sides. Particularly this track off of the album itself. The album opener, the mostly instrumental Procession, feeds directly in to The Story In Your Eyes, and then is reprised in One More Time to Live, the side 2 opener. I do hope you'll choose to listen to the Magnificent Seven in chronological order, if only on your own time. The Moody Blues takes their audience on a musical and spiritual journey as they progress through each of the seven albums.
This is my favorite song by the Moody Blues!! I'm so happy you were introduced to the band with this song. They have so many great songs! You must hear "Tuesday Afternoon," "Nights In White Satin," and "Your Wildest Dreams," to name a few!
Reminds me of myself and my stack of 45’s. Good thing those players also could handle full size albums too. I clearly remember being 12 or 13 when my buddy’s older sister saw us messing with little pop 45s and went and brought us three albums to blow our minds - Cream, Traffic and Jimi Hendrix. That was quite a leap forward and got us on track for the epic early 70’s music like the Moodies, as our sound systems got bigger and bigger. What a great era to grow up !
Justin Hayward's voice is very recognizable in Moody's songs. But the Mike Pinder songs and vocals are also very recognizable. Along with his contributions with his use of the Mellotron.
That's a very different mix than the original album version. It is best to hear this song with the into song "Procession". Procession give a tour of the history of music in about 4 minutes then The Story in Your Eyes represents the current rock music.
I believe this is a demo and not the LP version. The LP version is cleaner production wise. Back in the day, I tripped to them many times.. My favorite band. I saw em three times.
Oh Yes!!! Take me back to my psychedelic LSD days. I've calmed down a bit now, only my herb and a young pail of red wine but still love me some Moody Blues. Haha! Thanks for the reaction. They were great, hey?
They've been my favorite group forever. I've seen them almost ten times. One time was in the Gorge at George, in such a breathtaking landscape, and the concert fit in perfectly! An outdoor amphitheater in Eastern Washington near the Columbia River, with a canyon down below for a backdrop. I got the lawn seats, up and beyond the stage and rows of chairs. We kicked back and gazed up as the stars came into view, just after a pretty sunset beyond. And the Moody Blues playing along with the Spokane Orchestra. It was exhilarating!
Big fan of Justin Hayward & The Moody Blues. I hope everybody has a wonderful V-Day tomorrow. It will be my last day here. Harri and friends, thanks for giving me lots and lots of wonderful memories. I'll never forget.✌❤✌
This is an incredible pick Craig! Moody Blues just sets that amazing vibe. Moody Blues does that to you, just when you think you know them, surprise have a taste of this. But you still know it's them, Justin has those vocals you recognize immediately. You want to hear something very different from them "Evening: The Sunset" from Days of Future Passed Album. Fusing some orchestral elements in this album.
This version wasn't used on the original album, but was later included as a bonus track. Best to listen to the album starting with "Procession", which segues into "The Story in Your Eyes" imho. Glad you discovered and enjoyed another side to the Moodies.
Driving home ftom Western Carolina, DEC. 1972, it was lightly snowing and cold as I made my way on I-40 for the 7 hour drive back to Wilson, NC; I hwsrd this dong for the first time. it was beyond spiritual. The essence of moodiness, of winter, of gray skies and cold but uplifting and otherwordly. Songs like this got me safely home after 7 hours of hard, yearningful driving. It was the music that was the story in my eyes and heart. God bless the Moody Blues.
Lyrics: {Intro} I've been thinking about our fortune And I've decided that we're really not to blame For the love that's deep inside us now is still the same And the sound we make together Is the music to the story in your eyes It's been shining down upon you now, I realize Listen to the tide slowly turning Wash all our heartaches away We are part of the fire that is burning And from the ashes we can build another day But I'm frightened for your children And the life that we are living is in vain And the sunshine we've been waiting for Will turn to rain {Bridge} Listen to the tide slowly turning Wash all our heartaches away We are part of the fire that is burning And from the ashes we can build another day But I'm frightened for your children And the life that we are living is in vain And the sunshine we've been waiting for Will turn to rain When the final line is over And it's certain that the curtain's gonna fall I can hide inside your sweet sweet love Forever more {Outro}
Alternate version. Justin plays a great guitar solo on stage with this piece. Seen them 22 times - together and also their solo tours. The 2018 Wynn Vegas (9 nights) was their last gig and commemorated 50 years. It was bittersweet as I had the sense this was going to be it. R&R HOF - finally.
I was at the 2018 Wynn show as well - the next to last night. Traveled from Connecticut. Had a strong feeling this would be their final public appearance and would not miss it for the world. So glad I made the trip. Saw the Moodies live something like twenty five times from 1978 thru 2018.
I still have this album and one of my fav groups growing up. They had beautiful spiritual lyrics and their music did tell a story. They recently retired, and two of their founding members have passed. They kept 4 of the original members in the group for over 45 years, amazing. It took forever to get them in the RRHoF in 2018. They started out in 1964 and took like 3 years off but other than that, have been together in that time. Lots of great songs to explore with them. Another one like this is I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll band.
I have all their albums on vinyl upto Seventh Sojourn, l have a few later albums on vinyl and CD, New Horizons from Seventh is my favourite Moody Blues song of all time, it's just beautiful!
I watched the Yotubes Justin put out through 2021. sometimes solo , sometimes with 2 others but his voice is still just as good as always. Many memories.
One of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love all the Moody Blues songs. This song was on their album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour". Love the mix of rock & classical music. Most of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to from start to finish. A lot of them go from one song into another without a complete break. Sadly we just lost Graeme Edge their drummer Nov 11/21.
There is a rare 1975 album by an offshoot of the Moody Blues, a group called The Blue Jays, comprised of Justin Hayward and John Lodge. A different level of The Moody Blues. All the songs are original and deeply spiritual and loving.
I've never heard this vocal before, I must have only heard the single version but I thought that was off the album but its a great Moodies track anyway and shows that they could rock when they wanted to, great backing vocals on top of Justin's usual great guitar and vocal lead.
Funny coincidence. I was watching their concert Live at the Royal Albert Hall last night on UA-cam. It’s is really incredible. They’ve always been a favorite band of mine and I love this song. This even has a little Boogie Woogie! Haga
A very popular song with fans, it's nothing special to me, New Horizons though from the same album, it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!

Enjoying Justin Hayward. I am loving your reactions because you do the off beat songs. Please consider Threshold of a Dream. You will love it, what a message what a beautiful song. I'd love to hear what you think, no one else has done it.
Justin Hayward wrote my favourite Moody Blues song, New Horizons from the Seventh Sojourn album, it's just beautiful!
My wife and I were lucky enough to hear the Moody Blues live with a orchestra. Wonderful stuff! True ear candy.
I saw them 50 years ago and they were just as sharp and tight and spot on as their records. One of my favorite concerts.
They are absolutely amazing live. Seen them twice. Vast range of songs.
It’s funny you don’t think it sounds like what you expected from the Moody Blues. I think it’s quintessential Moody Blues. Maybe that’s just because I remember how incredible they were, especially after Justin joined the band. I also loved Go Now, with Denny singing the vocals at that time.
One of my favorites!! Keep em coming!
My favourite too, Illume.
Of the core seven, To Our Children’s Children’s Children was the poorest seller but most critically acclaimed. A concept album in it truest form.

Truth.
I personally still prefer EGBDF.
This is my favorite song by the Moody Blues!! I'm so happy you were introduced to the band with this song. They have so many great songs! You must hear "Tuesday Afternoon," "Nights In White Satin," and "Your Wildest Dreams," to name a few!
Thanx Harri, had this 45 rpm record when I was 10 years old (1970), played it to death on an ancient mono record player !
I was priveleged to see them live in their heyday. Incredible, memorable.
Justin Hayward's voice is very recognizable in Moody's songs. But the Mike Pinder songs and vocals are also very recognizable. Along with his contributions with his use of the Mellotron.
"New Horizons" by Moodies I hope is on the Horizon for Harri
It's my favourite song too, it's just beautiful!
Hi Harri, You'd love "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock 'n' Roll Band"! Great reaction today to the Moody Blues!
That's a very different mix than the original album version. It is best to hear this song with the into song "Procession". Procession give a tour of the history of music in about 4 minutes then The Story in Your Eyes represents the current rock music.
A favorite of mine for 50 years.
The album version is just stunning, you need to listen to 'Procession' as it leads brilliantly into this song.
One of my favorites by the Moody Blues!
You are very fortunate! I’ve seen them four times, but never at the Gorge.
I was there right with you my friend, what a great night!
This is a really good song Harri, Love it ☺
Big fan of Justin Hayward & The Moody Blues. I hope everybody has a wonderful V-Day tomorrow. It will be my last day here. Harri and friends, thanks for giving me lots and lots of wonderful memories. I'll never forget.✌❤✌
Why your last day here? Are you okay?
Ginny it has definitely been a pleasure. Sad to hear your leaving us! A very heartfelt farewell!
Justin's best song for me is New Horizons from the Seventh Sojourn album, it's just beautiful!
The story in your reaction keeps these songs alive man..fantastic stuff indeed.
My favorite moody blues song.
My favourite ever Moody Blues song is New Horizons, it's just beautiful!
Great song!
Thanks!
Love it!
I like another recording better.
This version wasn't used on the original album, but was later included as a bonus track.
Best to listen to the album starting with "Procession", which segues into "The Story in Your Eyes" imho.
Glad you discovered and enjoyed another side to the Moodies.
One of the best Moodies, also one of the best albums from the wonderful 70's!
Fantastic introduction, fabulous song, great vocals.....!!
Lyrics:
{Intro}
I've been thinking about our fortune
And I've decided that we're really not to blame
For the love that's deep inside us now is still the same
And the sound we make together
Is the music to the story in your eyes
It's been shining down upon you now, I realize
Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We are part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day
But I'm frightened for your children
And the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain
{Bridge}
Listen to the tide slowly turning
Wash all our heartaches away
We are part of the fire that is burning
And from the ashes we can build another day
But I'm frightened for your children
And the life that we are living is in vain
And the sunshine we've been waiting for
Will turn to rain
When the final line is over
And it's certain that the curtain's gonna fall
I can hide inside your sweet sweet love
Forever more
{Outro}
Forever more ❤
This is different from the album version - which is one of my favourite Moody Blues albums and songs.
I got introduced to these guys on my small transistor radio as a young kid. "Go Now" was the first song and it was 1965.
Fabulous voice,
I still have this album and one of my fav groups growing up.
Many memories.
can't go wrong with the great Moody Blues
One of my favorite groups from the 60's-80's. Love all the Moody Blues songs. This song was on their album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour". Love the mix of rock & classical music. Most of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to from start to finish. A lot of them go from one song into another without a complete break. Sadly we just lost Graeme Edge their drummer Nov 11/21.
May he RIP.
Make it even better: Tack "Procession" onto the front, as it was on the album.
I've been bested! That is a beautiful track! Thanks for reminding me of it.
@@greybeard2280 The 'and now, the history of music in five minutes' aspect of it is fantastic, not to mention the callback in "One More Time To Live."
@@minkhollow your making me want to get my LP's out and start from the very beginning.
@@greybeard2280 I do what I can. XD
Yup..it definitely is a different vocal track.
the atonality of the keys slamming at the end is a top ten music moment ever for me
Funny coincidence. I was watching their concert Live at the Royal Albert Hall last night on UA-cam. It’s is really incredible. They’ve always been a favorite band of mine and I love this song. This even has a little Boogie Woogie! Haga
I was 21 in 1970 and was thrilled to be "Part of the Fire" and couldn't get enough Moddys.
A great song from a great band. The entire album is one of my favorite experiences.
Superb album, one of my favourites of the wonderful 70's!
If you like this one by the Moody Blues you should try “I’m Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band “
A very popular song with fans, it's nothing special to me, New Horizons though from the same album, it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!
Moody Blues...listen to "Eternity Road " ...Candle of Life. One of the greatest rock bands of all time...
how unfortunate you didnt play the prelude to this song called "Procession" , it is a journey thru the history of music leading into this song
The sad thing is, we only have two left - Justin Hayward and John Lodge. I always liked them.
Mike Pinder is still alive l think.
Just one of those songs that should be longer!
