  • Earlier this year, two-year-old Thai girl Matheryn Naovaratpong became the youngest person to be cryogenically frozen, her brain being preserved at the point of death. Her parents say they are "100% convinced" future medical advances mean she will one day be restored to life.
    They told the BBC's Jonathan Head it was their love for their daughter that drove them to seek this route.

      +Bogdan Roscaneanu We aren't able to face death anymore. In the past, life and death co-existed, today we avoid the idea of death, we are far too scared about it. Technology and science together can help us to live better and longer, but at a certain point, we must accept that life ends. She was very young, and that's sad, and I wish we could all live forever...but science has limits.

    Losing a child is like losing half part of soul. You don't feel happiness anymore, for sometime. I've been there, I know how it felt. Don't wanna let her go, but have to. Some old man said to me: you love her, that is true. But God loves her more, so let her go, let her rest from that pain. Damnit.

    Did I hear that right? They only preserved their daughter's brain and some other cells? So they would basically be just putting her consciousness in to someone else's body. Even if technology ever advanced to the point where this was possible - it wouldn't really be their daughter anymore. It would be someone else's body. She would look totally different. Sounds like something out of a horror movie. And how sad would it be for her to come back to life many years in to the future, but all of her family would be dead by then.

There are spiritual beings (demons) that will take advantage of these frozen bodies if given the chance to deceive us into thinking it is really our love ones re-animated when it really isn't. This beautiful girl instead is in Heaven. The most beautiful place that can ever exist. I hope that her parents will seek Jesus Christ and also be in Heaven united with their lovely daughter.

    The problem with cryonics is that they are completely ignoring the fact that humans are more than just bodies, hearts and brains. There is a soul. I believe, when a heart stops beating, it is not revived, just because a brain is removed and frozen, the brain could still be unfrozen one day, but when frozen it is in an inactive state, as though it is dead. My point is this, when a heart and brain are no longer active, preserved or not when there is no activity there is no soul activity, and when there is no soul activity, the soul is gone and the patient is truly dead.

    If this does become scientifically possible to do this in the future the world probably wouldn't allow it to happen on widespread scale. Assuming the population of the world continues to increase, and people live longer, then wouldn't we run out of resources if dead people don't stay dead. It would also posses some religious issues (eg if your body is frozen at death does your soul stay with your body to to heaven, and legal issues (eg if you're frozen, what happens to your estate, does it get passed on to your inheritors or does it stay legally yours). Having said that, a lot of things could happen in the future were this could be a perfectly normal thing to do.

This thing shouldn't even be attempted as when someone does pass away, they should be buried or cremated or something. Not tried to be reserved... I'd never suggest it, or do it myself. Everyone grieves differently and maybe this family felt even a shred of hope and that made it possible to go forward in their lives. No one should judge how the other deals with pain and heartbreak. It may not make sense to you but this is not about making sense. This is about trying to heal/mend a broken heart. I imagine only persons who have lost their child would truly understand.

      Did you even imagine smartphones 15 years ago, internet 30 years ago, or personal computer 50 years ago?
      Dont you know how many breakthrough advancement in life extension and cure for aging has been occuring in just last 3 years? (I bet you dont because vast majority of humans have never read a single academic paper in their life, let alone keep up with latest research progress)
      Singularity will very likely occur before 2100, and by then all humans will be immortal and technology to revive frozen patients will certainly be available.
      Spending tons of money on funeral to be buried 6 feet under to rot in the ground vs spending similar amount of money to be preserved until ~2100 and waking up to be immortal? Your life your choice
      In any case, ANY breakthrough technology or invention regarding life extension should be reserved strictly to the few who are intelligent enough to perceive them. The world is far too overpopulated and 99% of human beings are absolutely useless.

We're all born and we all have our set time to leave this world. It's best to just allow nature to do its own thing. Don't try to play god like this, or you'll never move on. Even if you do manage to bring her back, she will not be the same girl you once knew. Please just let her rest peacefully. You're an idiot. I literally just finished explaining that although I was speaking to the parents, I already knew it wouldn't make a difference to them whether they saw it or not. My original comment was more to just get my opinion off my chest. Seriously, read.

    This is tragic, I understand loosing a child is devastating and something no one could ever truly move on from but they need some serious therapy so they can get back to a place of functioning and rational and maybe have a second child so they can have that love again...focusing on her like this is so unhealthily for them.
    This is very sad.

      물고기행복 but they're not really fine. Its never going to work because only the brain was frozen and some cells. How can you revive a person with just a brain? They're clutching on hope. Plus, a few years ago there were issues about these cryo places that the freezing temp wasn't correct and some of the tissues actually thawed.

      You can't dictate the pace that someone is allowed to go through loss. If this is how they get closure then that's how they move on. Many religious beliefs are also like this; reincarnation or the afterlife etc. I'm not religious but death is not easy and when you experience it, you don't choose the date you get over it. Peace

      because death is part of life, you cannot resurrect someone for your own selfishness. Plus it is completely unethical and actually really freaky.

    • @kotaro07

      Just because you find it freaky doesn't make it wrong.

      Simran Johal how is it completely unethical? disease is a part of life but is it completely unethical to try and cure it? is it also creepy that we can make bionic limbs and help people who are paralyzed too?? i'd call you a half wit but you dont even have half a brain.

    • @flowerpowerocks3283
      @flowerpowerocks3283 7 років тому +6

      wow looks like i hit a nerve there. Look i don't expect anyone who eats dogs, rats and chicken foetuses to know anything about being ethical. Someone like you couldn't bear the sight of your little emperors to be dead, since, of course, you're only allowed one (and for good reason too). I wouldn't insult the intelligence of others just because you didn't agree with them, but that is of course that's how you commies work. Maybe you people wouldn't have so much cancer if you weren't stupid enough to pollute everything you touch.

    I don't particularly support this. Death is a part of life, and there are loses all over the world. You just deal with it and move on. Trying to mess with something as natural as death may bring consequences.

      +Rayheat The yote But death by a disease that cuts life short happens all over the world. Disease is natural and people get diseases. If everyone did what these people are doing then we would be messing with the balance. People are not meant to be brought back from the dead when they are surely dead. Acceptance is good for the mind, and if only the rich can afford to bring back the ones they love, people wouldn't be happy. I just don't agree with death being meddled with.

    • @feelmyfreshlyshavedlegs3979
      @feelmyfreshlyshavedlegs3979 8 років тому +9

      +Rayheat The yote The earth is overpopulated as it is and if we managed to make some sort of immortal medicine, the world would be screwed. There are millions of malnourished people in third world countries WHO ARE ALIVE we need to think of before trying to bring back those who are dead. Things may also go wrong, such as some kind of apocalyptic disease breaking out when trying to fiddle with their bodies. Not accepting death, as sad as it is, is weak and trying to fight something like death is deeply concerning on so many levels. People have to deal with deaths all over the world, but it's just a part of life.

    • @feelmyfreshlyshavedlegs3979
      @feelmyfreshlyshavedlegs3979 8 років тому +3

      +Rayheat The yote Mars is even smaller than Earth, so that means the big ass population will have to squeeze closer together. Another reason why trying to revive the dead is a bad idea.

    I would be so guttered, upset and confused if I lost my child. I would have no idea if I should freeze, bury them to let them be in peace or have another child... because I would love them to be with me forever and bring them back to life, but I would feel that they won't rest in peace and another child could never replace the one before.... so sad, I really feel for them

      A few years ago, my baby sister passed away, she too had cancer. We were poor, couldn't find anyway to save her. Our family had different ways to cope, I shutdown and focused hardcore on my schoolwork. My elder brother worked all day, my parents pretended everything was fine. They probably didn't want to upset us by being sad.
      My little sister helped me though. Her passing helped me succeed education wise, I got into great schools and am now pursuing a medical.
      I wish I could see her once more, thank her for everything. I know she is in heaven, she was a sweet little angel already down here. But I'm not going to heaven I don't think, so I hope she comes down one day, I wish to thank her.

My faith in God I know you guys will be reunited as a family in heaven. I understand that as a parent you”ll do anything and everything that you can to keep your babies safe. Ppl who are judging them for do this need to leave them be, they are parents who literally lost their heart and part of themselves with their precious baby girl. They are hurting none of us can understand this unless you have passed through this. I am truly praying for strength for this family as they pass through this.💔 dios los bendiga mucho amor en ese tiempo deficil.

      Bogdan Roscaneanu I definitely agree its possible (and likely), I'm just making the point that saying something with 100% certainty goes against the scientific process.

      A destroyed cell isn't a "destroyed structure" - a destroyed cell is *GONE*. That's irrecoverable. If you freeze a cell, you destroy it. Completely.

    • @donniearcait9364

      +dXb cryogenic does not destroy cells. It basically dehydrates the body fill it with non crystallizing liquid and supercool it. this means that the cells are still intact.
