      @martinrotvig 5 років тому +7

      Denis James we don’t have the technology to freeze tissue without damaging it beyond repair. There exits a few animals who produces a natural “antifreeze” but we are far from being able to do anything similar with humans.
      This is a scam and have always been. We have researched it since the first science fiction describe it. And nobody has ever shown any evidence of being even close.
      When you freeze tissue with current technology you can’t avoid crystallization. Which literally shatters the tissues. That doesn’t happen in animals who produces a “natural” antifreeze.

    To me this piece is what Journalism should be. . When watching other news stories I have always felt detached and looked at the topic in a passing glance. Where here you presented this story in such a grounded and authentic way that not only did I understand what was going on but it became a very real subject in my world. Honestly I was speechless for a very long time after this video concluded. I am amazed I was able to write my previous comment. So keep on bringing more stuff like this please.

      They didn’t do their job with this video, they forgot to mention that it’s not possible to freeze brain tissue without damaging it, we are not even close to achieve that. Her brain got destroyed beyond repair, and she died with false hope of being revived. If they isn’t any God, then at least she will never know.

    No doubt, facing such an awful terminal illness at that age is a scary and tragic experience. But far scarier to me would be the prospect of waking up in an utterly foreign world and finding out that everyone I loved and everything i knew ceased to exist many generations ago.

    • @anyaw340
      @anyaw340 Рік тому +1

      I think that unless you're in the position of dying young, you can't know how you would feel to be brought back. It may be worth it to her to come back, even if all of her loved ones are dead, because her life was so short that she just wants the opportunity to live a long life and experience the things that you'll get to experience or have already experienced. She'll never have kids, grandkids, experience a peaceful retirement, or many other things that people experience during their several decades of life.

    • @DrewJmsn
      @DrewJmsn Рік тому

      @@anyaw340 good point, I hadn't thought about it in those terms. The tragedy of dying young isn't about seeing less of the world and missing out on getting old in a general way. Many very specific, very significant opportunities that come with growing old are lost. Absolutely, someone who hasn't had that experience has no business judging, and I wasn't (and am not) criticizing her decision at all. But imagining myself in that scenario, the prospect of waking up far in the future felt to me at least as tragic as prospect of dying young, and way scarier. I also thought of her partner's (boyfriend? husband? I don't recall) perspective and wondered how he moved on from that. They seemed so close, as close as a couple can be. It's not likely, but she could possibly come back in his lifetime, potentially even when he is still relatively young. Objectively, he should proceed as though she won't, lest he miss out on his own significant opportunities in life. But it would be so difficult to move on, much more than if it was certain her absence was permanent. The whole situation is totally mind boggling.

      Shaun Dreclin this is true indeed but you should think deeper. Wouldn't be possibile to cure cancer and reinvigorate damaged brain cells, in a world where you can successfully unfreeze deads? The whole concept started for terminally ill patients, who knew cure was close but not here yet. We actually might find the cure before we discover the method to bring her back to life.

Maybe in the future there'll be a way to prevent cancer from causing as much havoc to the brain and take preventative steps. It's an interesting look at her journey to find a way to have a chance at life again and I'm glad her wish came true, she could die somewhat happy. But I feel it was all in vain.

      @@DeepUndaInAmsterdam things don't look good, in addition to the damage caused by the tumor, there was also damage caused by lack of oxygen and decay in the brain because it took over an hour after death for them to start the prep for cryopreservation. It was supposed to take about 10-15 minutes, but the hospice took an hour to send a nurse to legally pronounce her dead because she happened to die during a shift change. Same incompetent hospice had discharged her a day before because they thought she would survive longer so she was at a condo and not the actual care facility, so the nurse also had to drive to her. In addition, the cryo team showed up with dead batteries in their equipment so they couldn't get the antifreeze into her quickly enough and scans showed that most of her brain was at high risk for ice damage during the freezing process. Literally everything that could go wrong went wrong and now her brain is mostly either destroyed or turned to ice.

      For what? There's no point wasting good money paying off the debts of a dying person unless there are loved ones who will be held responsible when they die. In the case of someone like her, who probably had little-to-no estate, almost all of those debts will just go unpaid when she dies. It would only be useful to pay those off if someone would be held responsible when she dies (for example, she had a spouse, or someone co-signed on a loan).

      Agreed. It just doesn't make sense. And even if it did, the evaluation after the fact stated that the procedure was a failure and her brain was damaged.

    It's a real shame that these places exist. It gives some people that are in their most vulnerable state of mind. To sell their whole estates or do the I need this to total strangers and than you hand these people money. For what? Lets go see how some of these places are running now! What happens when the person's family can no longer pay? Once you are gone people that is it! There is no 20 years or 300 years down the road going to be a brain transplant. This is not a movie like Frankenstein, it is the real deal. You are no longer in that body!

    • @trumpisaconfirmedcuck5840
      @trumpisaconfirmedcuck5840 3 роки тому

      Part of the money paid up front is to keep the body preserved. There's no "oops, we forgot to pay grandma's cryonics bill and they say if we miss one more payment they're going to throw her in the ground."
      That's how some cryonics organizations worked in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Those organizations are all gone. The current organizations, for example, you pay $80,000 or what have you $20,000 gets set aside just to keep you frozen. So there's no family issues of not being able to pay the bills.
      The upkeep is also extremely cheap. It's just topping off liquid nitrogen. No electricity needed.

    Cryonics is an interesting concept that has the potential to work. But even if it does, there is the question of is it ethical? Is it ethical to keep a person frozen in order to try to bring them back at a later date if a cure for a disease is eventually found? The whole process is based on hope. Nobody knows if there will ever be a cure for specific diseases. Nobody knows if a frozen brain will be able to be implanted at a later date after being thawed and still be able to retain memories as well as being able to still function and be able to control a body. How long from now will somebody who goes through this process have to wait? 30 years? 50 years? 100 years? Or even 1,000 years? By that time the person who is frozen may not have any family or friends left from the time that they were frozen. So would it be worth it? The person who was frozen would be able to live their life, but they may have to relearn everything they knew about the world. To me, that doesn't seem like a happy ending.

      @SwirlyisCool 6 років тому +5

      Broderick Flynn Also, some say that cryonics patients once able to be reanimated can either come back in their old body, a new one, or turned into a program; the question then is are they still considered human? Will society be accepting of them coming back, especially when many religions today see the idea of defying death as a sin? Would the cryogenic patient be able even choose or change their mind on whether they want to be their same body, a different one, or in a program when they are unable to give consent while they are not animated yet? And what if they wake up to find themselves in a body they did not agree on or trapped in a program because someone who would choose for them didn't know exactly what they want or the decision had to be made by someone else?

    You cannot be prepared for the world-changing shock, everyday, after waking up out of the stasis. the shock would hit your psyche each and every day and would be extremely difficult emotionally. There is no psychological preparation for waking up in the future. None. Only with love and support can someone come to terms with the changes awaiting them.

    Between a 0% chance of revival and a 1% chance of revival, it seems like the 2nd option would be the most rational. Cryonics might be a long shot, but it is the only shot available right now for those who want to live forever.
    Basically, it's either cryonics, or a 0% chance at life.
    waitbutwhy.com/2016/03/cryonics.html
    Good case for cryonics. Long read but quite worth it.

No. An all-powerful, benevolent God is cool with, and understands, whatever we need to do. I don't accept that He would punish a 23 y.o. young woman who wanted to take a specific route.
