- Watch as we walk you through our Mustang Subframe Connectors installation on a 1979-93 Mustang.
The Detroit Speed Subframe Connectors are designed to give maximum torsional stiffness connecting the front and rear frame rails. The connectors do not hang lower than the rocker pinch flange so ground clearance is unaffected. In addition to front seat mounting brackets that are stronger than factory, the connectors provide torque box and lower link reinforcement. The greatest value of this kit is that it fixes two common Fox Body issues with a single integrated solution.

YESSSSS, more Foxbody parts please, we the enthusiast need them.
Great job.
We're working hard to create more!
Looking forward to those suspension kits!
Coming soon.
Awesome!!!! We can’t wait to get started installing these!
Can't wait to see your progress Caleb!
Glad to see DS working on the fox body components.
Unfortunately for me it's a bit late. But I will be keeping an eye on your progress.
There's always time for another!
@@detroitspeed yes there is! I buy a 89 gt convertable this week!
Cool stuff but i would of done some finishing and prime calk and paint before welding the seat bracket.
Nice kit
When will these, the mini tubs and the quadralink be available?
The 80's synth music was a nice touch. :D
Mini tubs will be released shortly and QUADRAlink is looking to be around fall time.
Thanks DS.
Looking forward to it.
Glad I waited
Thought you would have had Mark do it, it was his fathers car lol. Interested to see if you want with his idea on the front too, I know personally I really like his idea and he is right there would be tons of brake options that would just bolt right up.
Mark did the tubs in this car
Detroit Speed, Inc. When do we get to see the suspension for the rear and front?
Would like to see a jacking rail developed for the foxbody convertible. It should be strong enough to jack the car up using the middle of the rockers.
Subframe Connectors can be utilized as a jacking rail.
Great video, very detailed and to the point! And 1 question. I know that some water drains down through the frame rails from the upper cowl areas. How do you compensate for the water draining from above? There are holes in the factory rails.... And definitely keep the Fox parts coming!!
We haven't really experimented with that, but a relief hold could be drilled into the replacement connector.
I thought using the banding metal to draw the straight lines was a cool trick
Will #detroitspeed have their own front suspension with K frame? Would really love to see an irs option as well.
We are currently working through finalizing design for rear suspension before we move onto the front.
@@detroitspeed Excellent, thanks for sharing the info. We are all excited to see all of the parts and upgrades you have planned for the fox chassis!!!
Yeeeeeessssss!!!!!!!!
Will DSE be developing chassis/suspension components specifically for the foxbody convertable?
Thanks.
We will have suspension components that will fit convertible models.
I see you are doing a series of short tack welds when joining the thick subframe connectors to thin panels. Do you use a smaller MIG wire like 0.023 due to thin floor pans or do you use 0.030 due to the thick connector?
We use 0.032 MIG wire in our machines, but we use short stitches to keep heat from the thin sheet metal on the floor pan. It is important to aim your weld towards the thicker metal on the subframe connector.
So your video say to have the rear end supported and the rear lower control arms but you have to remove the rear lower control arms to install, so do we just support the housing at that point and let the rear end hit the bump stops or do we put jackstands in the back on the frame rails?
I am shopping for a 5.0 now can you tell me estimated time/cost to install by DS the subframes?
Thanks.
Duane, installing subframe connectors in the car is not something that we would do here at Detroit Speed. We mainly focus our Project Shop hours towards full builds. The subframe connectors can be installed in roughly 24hrs, this is dependent on vehicle condition and installers skill level.
What is the steel thickness, (gauge) of the foxbody floor?
Thanks.
Foxbody floor pans are 20ga steel.
What about when you get into the 800hr range? What is the best option for that? im reading this option is only rated up to 400 hp.
Can these subframe connectors be used on convertibles?
Am I correct to say that I won’t have to cut into the lower torque boxes? I have aftermarket ones already installed and to me it looks like the rear frame connector just welds you the side?
I will be getting those soon do you suggest any place for a new radiator mount for an 89 mustang
It just keeps getting worse! Anytime you have to cut, hammer to install a fabricated part you bought junk.
How do you figure? You want everything to be snug not sloppy. A snug fit will make everything more rigid and its a foxbody these damn things are like beer cans anything you add to them structurally will not hurt them
