After over a week, finally getting above 0 F here in Fairbanks, AK. Bees still buzzing strong. Use reflectix for an inner cover. A much better insulator, and always forms a seal when you put your lid back on.
Cold weather in VA this week and jumping back up into the 60s next week. Fingers crossed my bees stay clustered since temps will be in the low 30s at night. Thanks for all the great advice David. See you Thursday night.
GREAT video David! Checked on my hives today but I didn't open them up - too much snow 25 inches. Did check and cleared the openings. Expecting more snow - up to another 12 inches by Sunday. HAVE A GREAT DAY 👍
Scotland location. I built an insulation base, added a 20mm wood fibre breathable insulated board above crown board. Ply wood three sided & roof covering house with air gap all around, just to protect from frost, snow but mainly rain and wind.
Hello from northern California. I was worried about my bees being too cold, but seeing your robust hives thriving in the bitter cold takes my worries away. The weather here has been clear, with lows in the upper 30's, highs in the low 60's 😂. Time to stop being a worrywart.
Yes, Illinois has bitter cold in winter, very windy and freezing to an icy cold. Here in Kentucky has similar icy conditions for a couple months. The bees seem to deal with the conditions well
I don’t know why it’s mentioned in many of these videos about brood existing during the winter. All the information I can find online seems to say they don’t have brood during winter and mine certainly don’t.

Thank you for the free beekeeping knowledge you offer. I learn from Uganda in East Africa.
I recommend if they're weak. I've used them without issue

I used to tar paper my hives in the winter when I lived in Canada. Now I live in Arizona. No more tar paper. 😂
Good info.
So what are the things you put in to feed the bees in the winter what is be nice? Is that a food?
Nice

The teen always lays brood in the winter but not as much and some breeds of bees lay less than others but they always have some brood in the winter.
Uhhhh that’s a long winter just huddling up and vibrating lol
I tried to feed my bees to have a strong and large colony but I could only get my colony like half his size :/
lol I would sting you too if you were moving frames with honey in the dead of winter.
Nice
