Peace. I have read several comments on Kody/Sanyika’s mind. I could go throughout this interview and point out several extremely insightful and critical comments that tell me all he really needs is time to clarify his thoughts. His intelligence is first rate and more importantly he has not lost the sense of empathy, that most important of human faculties which is a necessary precondition for any movement towards reconciliation with self and community. I just want to point out one comment: do you recall how he described Tookie? His description is the most telling and articulate summation of what captured the minds and hearts of young men who we should not forget were children and pre-pubescent children in many cases. I have not heard a more innocent and accurate summarization of why Crips took off as it did. What you heard was a 56 year old man channeling a child’s mind. What you see him struggling with has to do with the fact that he still had a child’s brain as a physiological fact and the 2 are very different things. His is a struggle that many of us share: how to reconcile ourselves with all that we have experienced. I have said it before and I’ll say it again: while we focus on the fact that KMV’s oral urban history library is worthy of Netflix, etc.’s attention, I believe the library will be one day recognized for its value to academics who will study its content for years in order to better understand what happened in LA and which has been the source of years of unnameable pain to many there. LA is and was the most extreme example of what it meant to live in a post-industrial, post modern society and in particular, black, brown and Asian. Peace to everyone out there who still has the ability to empathize and who have trouble sometimes staying focused or even finding the words to express themselves. KMV Urban Oral History Library will outlive us all; no Ph.D. Could have amassed all of this and for this alone he has saved countless academics hours of valuable time doing field work. If nothing else, these schools ought to recognize what he’s done for social science and the possibility of community healing.
This my 4 or 7 time watching this thanks Kev. Blessed be Yah the Power of Abraham ,Isaac and Yisrael please Father bless these brothers with the Blessings of healing, unity, peace, prosperity and the Blessings of Redemption, amayn!

Love your channel real knowledge/history always gone support kev mac
Excellent Summation Just Excellent. 🙌🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾💯

Big dawgs vocabulary and way of explaining things is fuckin impeccable. Honorable man, and I’m not saying he’s honorable for the things he’s done. I’m saying he’s honorable because he takes full accountability for the things he’s done and doesn’t glorify it. He lets us know that all that shit was dumb but he was intoxicated by the street life and lived it to the fullest.
🎯

At 3:09 the officer he is talking about is Officer James Choquette killed in the line of duty in 1979. Traffic Collision. We need some more info on 1029 would be interesting to hear the about.
