Chris Stuckmann reviews Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris O'Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, Terence Stamp, Ella Purnell, Lauren McCrostie. Directed by Tim Burton. - Розваги
That's too bad that Jake didn't get translated well from book to film. In the book he's really funny and interesting, at one point before he even meets the Peculiars he actually starts crying, so yeah, he's supposed to be a well rounded character.
Crystal Brooks i haven’t yet read the book so i can not speak to that- but i will say that i did feel he was HORRIBLY miscast. the actor did not seem to really embody the character.
I haven't seen a Tim Burton film I liked. I was interested in this movie until I learned he directed it.
"Strange school"
It.. wasn't a school tho?
I agree 100% about Jake, though. Especially if you've read the book, Jake in the movie is a very, very boring and doesn't do, well, anything, really.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I PUT A WHOLE NOVEL IN THE COMMENT SECTION BECAUSE HE SAID THAT. And other things about the film that were not correct.
HAHA YESS of course!! it bothered me so much every time he called it a school. not once in the movie did they do anything that even made it seem like a school. smh
Carson Latham yeah I think the thing that mostly bugged me is that they switched olive and Emma's characters >:1
@@paulmccartneyifheslayed true he was so much more funny and charismatic in the book
I recommend the book highly, it's probably much better than film.
so you're one of those then
Lol
Yeah, I own it
Yeah, I own it
Nah, I hated the book.
As a fan of the book, I'm disappointed with the ending. The book does not end that way, which leads to the two other sequels. I don't know how they will make sequel for the movie (not that they said they will), but the ending was just too bland.
I left the theater tonight confused and angry over that whole final showdown act |D
What
What even *happened* back there?
as also a fan of the book i like they didnt leave the movie on a cliffhanger. i mean..it would just SUCK after waiting two years to see this movie only to end it with them going off in the boat.
Burton isnt the kind of director to do a series.
right from the trailers alone you knew it wouldnt follow the book. you have look at it as its own separate thing. i guess thats why i was able to enjoy it. the eyeball eating though just PFFFFFT silly and gory. truly Tim Burton.
i totally get your point. but they could have considered a different ending rather than the unexciting one in which they played out? idk. just a thing to think about
wara I thought it wrapped up neatly. I guess it also stems from the fact I always wanted a happier ending... Poor jacob has gone through so much hell. :(
though yeah it was anti climatic... if you didnt like it I understand completely. Could have done it a million different ways but,eh, that's what they went with. x-o
wara yea I believe ending was changed because likely will not make the others. This kind of ending gives it an ending wraps in a bow. And if another is green lit then it can be opened.
If Tim Burton directed an X-Men movie, but hated the X-Men.
Didn't Burton not like Batman when he made Batman?
Burton's Batman movies are among the worst.
^Wtf? NO!
If you want to see a *good* Batman movie, watch Batman Begins or The Dark Knight.
The list goes:
1. Those two I mentioned (tied)
2. Mask of the Phantasm
3. The Dark Knight Returns
4. Under the Red Hood
5. Year One
6. The first ~hour of The Dark Knight Rises
_fifty_ _feet_ _of_ _shit_
7. Batman 89
8. The last bit of The Dark Knight Rises
_fifty_ _feet_ _of_ _shit_
9. Batman Forever
10. Batman Returns+Batman and Robin (tied)
Batfleck is burried under the shit somewhere too.
I love how your "proof" is "here's a list I made".
Like...If you had provided reasoning of any sort, fine, but you basically just call something shit and reason it out with "see? It's shit!"
The first Act of the movie was absolutely fantastic and hit every target they aimed for. My eyes were just glued to the screen in awe and I thought to myself: "I LOVE this movie!" Then the whole plot happened and they left the loop and I and said. "I love these characters.. Just the characters."
I guess Asa's character was the actual audience. I never like when they do that. I like a strong lead
but sometimes you need that so the audience don't get lost
Should've taken a Phoenix Wright angle; just have the character's lack of awareness be played for comedy, that way you still get the exposition while the protagonist gets to be a fun character.
Tximino M that's supposed to be a side character. Like the dumb kid who asks questions like "WTF DOES THIS DO" it makes great banter especially when they misunderstand stuff and fuck around.
I like a lead that is the audience that is also "strong". Most of the best heroes are like that. You see yourself in them but they also drive the story.
MadCap Productions I actually have to agree with you here, even though everything else was great in the movie. He kind of lacked emotion and feeling in his lines.
I am so sorry but i HATED the movie. The reason is because i read the books and the books were SO much better. I hated the Emma Olive change and i liked Enoch in the book. Please read the book it is a lot better.
I agree, and none of the characters were like they were in the book
They made Emma into this princess-ish, flirtatious, and (quite literally) air-headed love interest, and in service of what? Of making her seem more... demure...? They also took away so much of the creepiness and suspense, replacing most of the would-be-terrifying moments with instances of comedy. And the movie practically ADMITS it wasn’t any good, because it closed all of the (pardon my puns here) LOOPS that would allow it to branch into a series that is serviceable and tell a, if not exact, than a SIMILAR story to the books. It just depends on those people who loved the books (and the actors, AND the directors) to buy a ticket, and once those people (that were hoping for a better piece of content) watch the movie and decide they don’t like it much, the movie just makes it impossible for it to have a sequel because it KNOWS that you will not be coming back. On the positive side, however, I really did enjoy the designs of the Hollowgast, though they could have been a bit more “rotten” and “aged” in my opinion. The wights, for me, looked cheesy and comical, and I DESPISED how they kept their peculiar powers after becoming Hollows. That’s not even close to canonical, and it simply existed in the films to make them appear more threatening. The fight between the skeletons and the Hollows existed more for laughs than anything else. The main character, in my opinion, wasn’t engaging at all... he seemed very bored with the world he was in. What did I love...? Eva Green as Miss.Peregrine. Her, and the Hollow designs, and that’s it. Anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk 😅 If you enjoyed this movie, or if our opinions clash, that is 100% fine! It’s awesome that you found a film that you love, this is simply my humble opinion. Have a great day, everyone!
@@franklyfrancis3462 you make this movie then
Agreed. Aside from Eva, the acting blew. Too many liberties were taken.
Where can I read the book?
We all know the only reason Tim Burton still makes movies is to help Hot Topic come out with their next clothing collection.
Batman
Batman and especially Batman Returns are not good movies.
I'd rate them 7 midichlorians.
George 7 sounds pretty good
Apollo DA Seven, out of however many there are in the galaxy...
Lame ass 2005's joke, Hot Topic has been making primarily urban/hip-hop/rap clothing as their main product since like the last 6 years

Read the book. Get your wife to read the book. Enjoy the photos. Please.
I really feel the film could have been so much more. It's like they had this beautiful juicy orange and they told people to eat the peeling. Burton didn't do badly, but he didn't bring the right tone. And obviously the writing was weaker than Burton in this case. Bah.
eh, in all honesty I felt the book had some of the same problems the movie did. Two dull protags and a scatterbrained plot. Which I thought was a shame seeing as the first act of the book did a great job of setting up the mystery and the idea of writing a book around a set of creepy old photos is an interesting one.
Jacob Portman is an interesting character that get better and better as the book go on. He is exactly how Harry Potter was in the first book (I read both) curious and intrigued with everything. The second book is where his character progress. The only difference between two of these characters is that Harry Potter is almost prodigy while Jacob is not. If you think Jacob Portman is boring then you might as well think Harry Potter is also bland because there is barely any differences between them(not meant to be taken as offensive just stating an opinion). Emma Bloom however is really dull in the first book. She get horny for Jacob because he look like his grandfather. Serve as a great love interest but not a great character. However her story get better and better in the sequel where she stop being horny and actually do shit. I don't know how the movie portray them but the book is definitely anything but dull.
i gave it a a i love it and it is miss peragreens home for pqler children
Shoutout to all the people that read the book and came into the theater with such high expectations, just to have them shattered
maybe not shattered but very disappointed
Emily Tucker I was super furious. I literally run out of the theater then come back to finish it because I don't want to waste money. Seriously screw this movie.
Thinh Vo I am so angry at this movie I want to start a fucking movement against it, the books changed my life and I was waiting for the movie SO MUCH and after I saw it I wanted to crawl up under my bed and die.
I saw the cover of the book and heard that Tim Burton would direct an adaptation and I was like "this looks somber and interesting, maybe it will be good." Then I saw the movie poster and was like "this will be dark shadows all over again..."
please read the book its so much better
//
the book was amazing, it was constantly something cool or creepy or interesting and you just kept wanting to read more and more into this completely different world, and the second book especially really got kinda unnerving and scary but I feel the movie changed so much like I can already tell they took out some characters, switched two of the major characters powers (which was a mistake because emma who is the protagonist needs her fire powers later in the story) and changed their ages (idrc about that) and idk man I'll have to come back and continue my rant after I've watched the movie, but when I watched the trailer I was honestly kinda pissed at first because it felt like a whimsical happy fairy tale instead of a cool creepy mystery anyways rant over
same here. i freaking love the book, i pushed myself to finish the series before the movie comes out in my country. and i too is really dissapointed with the characters if the ending of the movie is jacob going back to the present with his parents and they're planning to make a trilogy movie oh boy i bet the nxt movies will be quite a mess
alexiel axel exactly
***** eh, i personally loved the books but to each their own
I loved the books! Especially Hollow City. Tim Burton did justice to the look of Peculiar Children, but in story it just didn't do it justice.
I agree completely. The book is amazing and I truly got peeved off that they changed that such major aspects of the book, but one thing that I have read is that Emma and Olive's powers needed to change because of how the movie progresses.
Later in the book where they walk among the ship wrecks to get to Dr Golan, there isn't ship wrecks in the movie that is shallow enough, so Emma therefore needs the air peculiarity to be able to raise the ship for them to walk on and be safe, in the water, if you understand?
Also, it is irrelevant if Emma needs her fire peculiarity later in the books, because there will most probably not be a follow-up movie, I have read, specifically because they have changed the movie so much, that there is no possible way to make a follow-up movie which still stays coherent to the book series.
Stuckmann's theater for UA-cam critics- Movie review
That'd be interesting
We have to think of an all star cast
Samuel L Jackson and Leonardo Di Caprio have to be in it.
With Jeremy Jahns and Roger Ebert's ghost.
so sad, we lost jeremy way too soon RIP
It's not even like Chihiro could've just left the spirit world if she wanted to
Neither could Luke return to Tatooine with the empire after him
He just used them as examples.
Yeah but Chihiro wasn't stoked to explore the spirit world, she wanted to get the fuck out
he was just saying more how it was written, like if it was written that chihiro somehow found a way back to the human world before the actual ending, or if it was written that luke just goes back to his home planet after learnign about the force and the jedi and the war.
Why were you smiling in the thumbnail if you were dissapointed?
It's like in his Captain America 3 review; he looked like he was about the rip the movie apart from the thumbnail, but in reality, he loved it. In his review for Outcast, he looked as if it were a fun action movie, but it's actually absolute sh!t.
He's a tricky fella.
He probably noticed the endless amount of top comments in his past videos that say:
"i can guess your rating by the thumbnail"
Is that really you, Mike?
But his expression in the thumbnail for Norm of the North is horrified.
There is no way he could have trick someone to believe that norm of the north was good with his expression!
Honestly, I went into this movie blind. I had never read the books, and seen no trailers for the movie. I only got exposed to it from Game Theory, and when I got into the theater, my expectations were low. But I have to say, leaving the theater, I loved it. It exceeded my expectations greatly, and I was honestly surprised.
Soviet Titan yea it's an entertaining movie on its own.
How? I know it is subjective but I'm like to ask the question here. How? The main character were so weak, so much plot convenience that doesn't make any sense, the exposition is choppy as hell. The only good thing is the visual.
Soviet Titan read the BOOK! It's way better :D if you liked the movie you'll like the book but I suggest the audiobook if your not into reading.
Both Eva Green and Asa Butterfield look like they we're made to be in Tim Burton movies.
You should do a review for Big Fish! It's such a great movie.. Cheers from Chicago! -Z
Watched it again last month - The ending still made me tear up. Such a good film.
Yes, I love Big Fish!
yessssss such a good movie. chicago resident here :D
Brenda Martinez Chi-Town Represent..!! :D
Zach Derbas 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Now that you mentioned it...CHRIS PLEASE DO A REVIEW OF SPIRITED AWAY
YES
Ditto!
okay
You liked Sweeney Todd? Awesome
I like Sweeney Todd
I like pie.
I don't think he was commenting by order of appearance. I think Burton should stick to animation... and maybe learn how to tell a fucking story lol
TheRackits I like Sweeney Todd. have you ever seen it? the story is great
+TheRackits beetlejuice and edward scissorhands was great he stopped being great after Sweeney todd in 2007
Great video Chris. Was wondering if you could make a video on the MPAA system. Thanks.
I take it you've seen the Nostalgia Critic's video on this?
+Trevor Aven Yeah a while ago. It's always an interesting topic for me.
Hmm. Well, I guess Chris could have some interesting angles to bring on it.
This!!!
The MPAA, as I understand, is not transparent. Their decision making process is very secretive.
They changed the ending? The first book's ending is better then because in the books, they travel through time loops. He returns only at the end of the final book.
Well, disappointing I guess.
I personally loved the film. Seeing it again on Friday.
I'm looking forward to this film, glad to read this comment
..i heard it's garbage.. read Richard Roeper's review.. and stuckman stinks lol
I loved it too. Maybe I'm a little biased because I feel that the message kind of hit close to home with me. I've always known that I was different and I've come to embrace my differences. I want to help others like me find their purposes in life and I want them to realize that what makes them different can help change the world. I could also be biased because I haven't read the book.
That wasn't the main problem with the movie though, the ending part just became a goofball comedy XD
Bernard Why you say that Bernard ? I saw the movie and I thought it was pretty good ending...
also when replying to me please put the spoilers in "the read more" section of your comment to not spoil it to people who would want to watch it, thanks
This movie makes my heart hurt, the second I saw the trailer since I've read the books and they fucking ruined it, badly. It's too colorful and child like, it's supposed to be a darker thriller. I haven't seen it but the main love interest girl is supposed to be a fire starter, not the one that floats, she's way fucking cooler than the floaty girl. Plus Miss. Peregrine is an older woman, like a grandma, not a hot Eva Green. Maybe it's good on it's own but they should've called it something else.
Sita Sky I have only read like 2 chapters of the book so far and last night I watched the movie while on my fight back home and even without having finished the book I knew that many things weren't right just from his things were going. The Story was supposed to be darker but it was too child like like you said. Was a bit dissapointed tbh with the film alone
I wish riggs found someone else to do the movie.. i dont mind miss peregrines young form but the peculiarity switch was annoying. Not to mention they ruined Bronwyn?? Her whole character was meant to be motherly. Also Olive is meant to be a child and enoch is supposed to be a bratty 12 year old. Hugh and Fiona are supposed to be older and have a sort of romance(which was replaced with the bs olive and enoch shit) PLUS emma was completely ruined, in the book she was this strong badass that flipped the bird and showed no fear. But innthe movie she was so weakly written and had no personality. The movie is like a poorly written fanfiction.
@@Dani_1012 you fought your way back home cool
@@ultrashangoutidk Oops, I meant "flight" lol, I was in a flight back home and to pass the time I watched it
@@Dani_1012 I know I just thought it was funny
I've bought the book once. But its illustrations freaked me so much out I've never touched it again.
WEAKLING !!
its a book for teens man
It look like a horror story from the cover but it actually similar to XMEN and Harry Potter. I highly recommend this book. It is not your typical teen YA book, it is really good.
so much likes
What was on the cover???
Remember when Tim Burton was a GOOD director?
It looks like those days are numbered. That's really tragic.
Same with Kevin Smith
He still a good director.,,.
Danno Kane Good at "directing" movies, yes, in terms of utilizing camerawork, sound design, art direction, and the like, but I took the OP to be using the word as a blanket term, a la "Remember when his movies used to be generally good?"
Yeah 2007 was his last worthy film
Zod's Snapped Neck would be at this house
I guess he'd be this film's version of Nearly Headless Nick.
I can't help but laugh ar your comment, damn it.
That joke isn't funny anymore and even if you had said it during when it was funny it still wouldn't be funny because that is just a bad Zod snapped neck joke
That's just like....you're opinion man
+Shad0w Knight384 yeah but no but it's kinda true
I have never seen the film, but I have read the book. The book is very interesting but you need to play very close attention when you are reading it because every detail counts
I really like Eva Green from her role as Vanessa in Penny Dreadful.
I think the movie wasn't THAT bad. Go watch it and you'll understand why the main character decided to go back to his "boring normal life". Certain things happened because he went back, so it's needed to be in the movie. The visual is great and there were fun moments and some cool action scenes. Asa did a great job as a main lead. The only problem for me was just the writing near the end. Like everything could be explained a bit better. For this is also a time travel movie, there were time paradoxes all over the place and those plot holes I just can't ignore.
and it's "Her - my - oh - nee" not "Ha-my-nee" at 3:35
"Certain things happened because he went back, so it's needed to be in the movie" Yeah, that´s defined as lazy writing, you just don´t know how to move the plot so you make the character do things he/she wouldn´t normally do to conveniently tell the character the information he needed to know. All the things that happened in the boring side were just plot devices to move the plot, for me that´s just bad directing and writing.
habstein yes, the visual in great, and the effects are good but the story is terrible, because in the movie everything is so messed up and if you read the books you know that the story from the movie is not like the story from the book, and this is why i don't like the movie, and i guess that the visuals and blah blah blah are good but the story.. nah. It's bad, but i guess they couldn't fit 3 books (wich are long, the last one has like 530 pages) in one movie.
habstein he never said it was bad. He said it was disappointing and average which is why he gave it a C
I read the book, and I loved it and then I was exited to see the movie, then when I saw it I was a little disappointed.
The strange thing about this movie is: In this movie, Emma is the one that floats, but in the BOOK, Emma is the one that can create fire. I still don't understand why they did this.
I personally quite liked it. Wasn't as great as Batman or Edward Scissorhands, but pretty enjoyable nonetheless. I'd give it a B+.
Landon, I'm hoping it's not as bad as Chris obliterated it to be
Just saw this movie, and it was the dumbest thing ever - even for a kids movie. The "invisible" monsters cast shadows, so why not just throw powder on them, or paint. Problem solved. Also, they aren't arrow-proof, bomb proof, or anything proof. So why - in 1943 - don't anyone have guns to defend themselves? The head mistress uses a crossbow rather than a Tommy gun, a Mauser, a Sten "Grease" gun, or any contemporary weapon?
you- i- the- you cant throw powder on them because they have 3 very deadly tentacles coming out of their mouth, and they actually take bullets very easily, in the book it takes a time bomb or an army of gunman to blow one up not a couple of gunshots.
Most likely, I would assume that the book focuses more on medieval weapons, like Percy Jackson or the Hunger Games
Did you miss the entire ending of the movie where they throw snow and other things on the hollows?
wow... did you even watched spirited away? you totally don't remember the plot, Chris.
+Eva Skov HP one didn't really work either, lol. Jake's dad was a good guy (at least in the book). Can't say the same for Harry's Aunt and Uncle. If I was living with near-abusive guardians I wouldn't want to go back either, no matter where I was - wizard school or muggle school.
Exactly. I was like "I haven't watch that movie for like 5 years but I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a choice"
Also I haven't watch the movie but Jacob going back and forth because he was conflicted.
He has a life behind him outside the loop and he has to care about his parent. He also feel like he was being used by Miss Peregrine. And his love interest only love him because he look like his grandfather (she love him for real half way).
At the same time, he know that Miss Peregrine need him since he the only one with a particular peculiarity that his grandfather has. And his parent at the same time, while not abusive and really nice, is a complete failure as a parent. They constantly ignored him and just leave him to a psychiatric and made him other people problem just like they did with his grandfather.
So you have this internal conflict going on where he feel alone half of the time.
Thinh Vo Perhaps they didn't show that conflict very well in the movie. It was very clear in the book why he kept leaving the loop to go back to his father. While HP has a choice, in the books and the movie they show why it is an easy choice (his aunt and uncle treated him horribly). Something else I failed to mention, HP aunt and uncle know about the wizarding world so they know to where HP "disappears" while Jake's father does not. Overall both comparisons are very poor. But then again I haven't seen the movie and am basing these comparisons solely on my knowledge of the book.
Haven't watch the movie also but feel the same too.
Never compare this trashy film to that Ghibli masterpiece.
Damn it 2016!!! Can there be a highly anticipated movie that actually turns out good??!!!! All we've had is Civil War. The rest were either okay or worse.
And Finding Dory
uhhhhh deadpool...............
We still have Fantastic Beasts and Dr. Strange. And I hope they deliver..
True and Deadpool.
this film is getting decent reviews actually
the whole reason she was in that world in spirited away was so she could go back on that walk with her parents
Aidan Strader who wants to walk with eva
Please review Coraline. It's a very underrated animated film and I am anxious for you opinion.
Allegiant's failure will probably be putting a halt to final book adaptation splits
Please read the book Chris because the story and characters in the book and WONDERFUL so if you actually want the full experience please read the book.
Most of the things he's complaining about are in the book. Maybe if he read it then he would understand.
Yeah, but the point of an adaptation is for it to stand on its own and if the film isn't good but the book is (i.e Percy Jackson) then you know you have a problem with your screenplay and should fix it.
CC Coertzen agree
he is reviewing the movie.
the book should not be a necessity to enjoying the movie
*Sees a Percy Jackson comment
*Get's a flashback
*AaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhH!
This movie literally changed pretty much everything from the book especially Emma and olive
The book is extremely different to the film. They have changed so much about the story but the film is still very good
Trailers didn't engaged me to this movie, and it seems the movie is not good.
"is not not"
lol I goofed, thanks
same, and i read and liked the book it's based on
The trailer invested me in the movie, thee movie itself was Meh....
i agree man
Leafy has no chin.

I wasn't expecting to see that comment here. Lol xD
wrong channel buddy
And you have no originality
lesryglrhfohser true
I read the book, and Jake does go back and forth between past and present for awhile. In the book they showed this conflict of wether or not to stay or go. I guess they totally forgot about that in the film.
Well you can't really translate that to film because it is more of an internal monologue between himself isn't it?
+99ArrowsThatHit yeah they could have. I haven't seen it yet so I'm not gonna judge too early. But they've already changed a bunch of characters so ?
Change that bother me the most is the Emma and Olive power switch. I don't see why I don't know why. There is absolutely no reason why they need to do that.
+Thinh Vo yeah same it's so pointless?
+Thinh Vo i thought so too but then i saw the movie and it actually didn't bother me at all. he made it work.
i sexualy identify as half dog half honda civic and half attack helicopter
Is it weird that the most ridiculous thing to me is that you have three halfs?
I think reaper from overwatch is half attack hailcoper too
Never heard of Manbearpig?
But how can you be 3 halves????
This film was based at a book right?
Yes
based *on* a book
Did you watch the video?
Yeah, and it was WAY better
Ruben Lodewijk yes
Gonna call it: C-
Close.
It actually just a "C"
Gonna call it: C

Hey, I'm spot on! :p
THE BOOKS ARE AMAZING! READ THE BOOKS! THE MOVIE CHANGED A LOT OF STUFF ABOUT THE BOOKS AND DONT LIVE UP TO THEM!
The books are really good! The first one did have some pacing issues, which sounds like translated to the film unfortunately. I really hope we get a second movie because that's my favorite of the books. It has some elements to it that I think would be great on screen! Fingers crossed!
They actually covered most of the first and second book along with a couple themes from the third. The first book ends after the kids get on the ship to rescue the ymbrynes, the second ends with the kids at the train station loop.
You summed up everything I was feeling about this movie. And this is coming from someone who read-- and loved-- the books.
To be fair, the whole point of Spirited Away was Chihiro wanting to go back to her boring life with her ordinary parents...
Chris Stuckmann, you are a great reviewer. Please review The Outsiders. Keep doing what you love.
I 100% RECOMMEND TO READ THE BOOKS! They're so good! Jake is less annoying and you get to see much more about all of the characters and their dynamics! I was really annoyed that Hugh and Fiona (bee boy and plant girl) were so young and weird, their dynamic in the book is a lot of fun. Also, the books have photographs in them which were found online and in junk stores by the author! 10/10 books, like a film in book form, they're really visual and wonderful.
Miss Peregrine's Home is not a school, and you said it repeatedly. It's a refuge.
WOA! Stucky is pushing a million subscribers :O 75% there :D Way to go man!
BOOKS=PERFECT MOVIE=THE LESSER PERFECT SISTER
As far as I've seen on the trailers and stuff (I live in Chile, the movie is not available yet) some of the charactrs were changed or eliminated for the film, and the "going back to normal" is well explained in the book.
Jacob has to act normal in front of his father, he was supposed to be recovering from a mental breakdown after his grandfather's death. So the trip (at least in the book) was to help him "recover" from that shock
ps. Cool book.... you should consider to read it,
and cool chanel
But chris if jake isn''t boring how can people relate to him!!!!
Then everyone is boring, then?
no, it's bella from twilight, make a character with no interesting traits that define them, being a blank slate anyone can relate
+Maxtually You need to see some better movies!
Jacob is a way better character than Bella by like half way across the globe. It is an insult to compare twilight to Ransom Riggs novel or any novel in general.
Never heard of this series until now, but twilight came from a novel didn't it?
don´t worry, in the book Jake also spends all the time asking questions
Does anyone else cringe every time Stuckmann says 'Har-mione'?
Nice review tho.
tell that to zod snapped neck
Not as bad as me pronouncing it as "Her-me-own" in the 4th grade before I saw the movies
Your thumbnail looked positive. I'm still seeing Miss Peregrine, maybe next weekend.
Ed Wood- the greatest, and most underrated, Burton film
not nearly the greatest
ok
I think it's his best.
and the birth of the sarah jessica parker meme
+Harry Varvaressos probably not greatest but definitely most underrated
Wow. Reviews like this prove why Stuckmann is probably one of the finest movie reviewers on the planet (in my opinion). The way he analyses movies and expresses his positives and negatives are amazing. Not to mention, his references and examples are spot on. Keep it up Stuckmann.
Chris did not read his comments on the first HP movie. Harry did not cast a single spell.
He didnt cast a spell, however he figured a little out himself with little input from others, something Chris mentions is missing from this film, a sense of self worth from the main character.
*things out himself
Thats what i was thinking.
He was in the scene when the "Make feathers fly" class took place, so that counts
Guys, you have to look at the movie as its OWN thing and the books as their own. I watched the movie first and I thought it was really really good. then I read the books and they were even better. BUT you need to know that the movie was BASED on the books and that its not a visual represantasion of the books to actually enjoy it. I did and.. I loved it!
lol Harry didnt cast a spell, Harry did only ask questions and stuff, he WAS a boring character
That's what I was thinking, but I think he's talking about the book, Harry actually done shit in the book
Apollo DA but we are talking about the movie
He knocked out a troll with its own club.
Actually, it was Ron who did that.
***** no he didn't
THE BOOK WAS AMAZING! I KEPT RE-READING IT! And that was why I was a little disappointed in the movie because it did not satisfy me at all. ~~~SPOILERS AHEAD~~~ Emma was supposed to be fierce, she tried to kill Jacob when they first met, she didn't know that Abe was dead and when she knew she was devastated about it, they didn't even emphasize Emma's relationship with Abe. They also didn't do "Raid The Village" where they all except Emma raid the village which I wanted to see :(. They also didn't emphasize on the fact that Millard has memorized everything and what everyone would do every day in the village. And Emma was sending Abe letters that were inappropriate at the time because he was already married and Franklin and Susie saw these letters and were outraged. The movie was just too short and they could've added more scenes from the book that were iconic. And the little ones also didn't get enough screen time. Jacob and Emma were boring in the movie, they were much more interesting in the book, they would argue about some things and Jacob even snuck in Emma's room just to find out what was going on because Emma didn't tell Jacob anything unlike in the movie where Emma would just keep answering Jacob's questions which was really really boring. There were so many details missing that I was looking for in the movie. But even though this happened, I'm still hoping for a sequel. I just want to see what will happen and the new characters.
who here likes pancakes? ✋
I'm more of a waffle girl, to be honest.
✋
Tomorrow I'm making waffles
+Cyle Reyes I am not sure if you intended to, but I just read your comment in the voice of Eddie Murphy's Donkey character from *Shrek*.
🖕🏻🖕🏼🖕🏽🖕🏾🖕🏿🖕
This was your best review in a long time, keep up the good work!
Can you do a classic review of American history x?
Who's watching when Chris has 750,000 subs!
Jake Phillips go sub to my channel
Samuel L. Jackson in this movie alone.....was worth the price of admission. Seriously he is hilarious and creepy like Pennywise the Clown.
Those twins you were so entranced by are pure, uncut nightmare fuel.
Did Johnny Depp cameo as Wolverine???
You know what, I think it's fair that he's always asking questions; it's a nice change of pace from this blank slate character being thrown into all this weird shit all at once and just being fine with all of it like it's as common as seeing like a dog. It seems more realistic for young people, and all people in general, to be curious.
SPOILER ALERT!!!! THIS COMMENT WILL SPOIL PARTS OF THIS MOVIE!!
I was really looking forward to the twin's role in this movie, but the whole "turn people into stone" power through me off. They have a creepy appearance, and I was hoping their peculiarity would be a bit more interesting. I am very happy with the fact that their powers were revealed at the end because it gave a nice effect, but I was expecting more. :/
Bella C same
maybe in a second film?! (one can hope)
More importantly, if they can just lift their masks and turn anyone to stone that easily, why aren't they running around saving everyone. I know it's a movie and they would ruin the plot, but maybe their powers should have been less helpful.
@@kimberlyschleimer4836 they were but they hadn't a big role... In the first book are two pics of them!
This movie was good, if you never read the book. Don't get me wrong it was beautiful, but most of the movie was based on the first book. There was JUST so many things he missed! Jake became so cool! The characters were vastly different power, looks, age. If you don't understand the movie, I HIGHLY advise anyone to read the book!
Can you review Classic movies

Wow, the book is written by a guy named Ransom Riggs! Isn't that the coolest name ever? A Mel Gibson movie and a character! With that name you shouldn't write children's book, but instead be an action hero.
This was one of my favorite movies of the year. Loved everything about it. Yes it would've been nice if the twin little boys and the little girl got more story time, but I actually liked Jake's character. He was relatable because he was lonely and he led the group at the end of the movie with no more questions, but I understand why you find him boring. I was glad he went back into the real world for a little bit because that seemed more honest to me. Even if I found a cool world like that, I'd still visit home because it's where my family is. Even if his parents are shitheads, I don't blame him for returning to a world he understands and people he loves deep down. At least he went back to them at the end
I recalled most of the senses would just suddenly appearing out of nowhere without warning. Like one minute Jake is talking to someone, the next he's back at the hotel.
Dude, you didn't even mention all the unrealistic shitty scenes of the movie. For example, when the children go through the port loop thing, they got to the amusement park where they all fight the monsters... While this is happening, the people in the amusement park are running away, the music in the park just keeps going as if there is no one that controls the park and would stop the music or warn the people that it is not safe (like it would have happened irl). The police never shows up after the fight goes on for a while and its just a stupid fighting scene itself. There is also plenty of stupid scenes and this is just a badly produced movie.. It deserves a D+ at most
I came into this film with miniscule exoectatuons and was happily suprsed. The trailer doesn't spoil anything in the whole second half, the characters were great, the story kept me interested, and I honestly had a great time. The acting from Asa was absolutely atrocious in the first half of the film, that phone convo with his grandfather and his reaction upon seeing him were so awful I literally had to cover my ears and eyes. It (thankfully) got a whole lot better and Samuel L Jackson's character was hilarious and terrifying. He had some great one liners! Of course though, the star of the show was Eva Green.
Notification squad stand up
Your reviews are always so well thought out and clearly conveyed. I really adore your channel. Thank you for all that you do. You remind me why I love film so much. Your channel is my dream job. Well done Sir.
I knew Tim Burton was going to screw it up
I remember the novel being wildly popular, this seemed right up Burton's alley! Shame it wasn't better!
wow I got here early for once
You're not early. You're on time.
Your* idiot
calm yourselves
+Frank J'Quellin "You're" is another way of saying "You are". Come on, man! You learn this stuff in elementary school!
MegaSoulhero I learn that stuff from your mom
I understood that the point of him going back to his dad after one day at Miss. Peregrine's was because of his struggle between joining them or not, because staying with the home means leaving his family behind which he feels conflicted over.
ingesting eyeballs? Eyes on the inside? hmmmmm
Grant us eyes...
Can't believe you didn't even talk about the hollowgasts for one second.
Tim Burton is hit or miss? Nah, he has been an awful director for a decade now. His visual direction is still fuckin amazing but holy shit, what happened to his story-telling? He is basically Zack Snyder.
Tim Burton has lost his touch but still not a Snyder!
Frankenweenie was great and I have heard good things about Big Eyes. Planning to check that out tonight.
I actually think the special effects have also been awful in his movies, especially Alice in Wonderland
Yeah, Snyder was never good to begin with. Burton generally speaking, has just been mediocre with the odd exception.
Tim Burton lost his touch, he can come come back, and please don't insult Zack Snyder, the guy is also a brilliant filmmaker, just people don't understand his work, don't birng stupid hate.
+Kal-El fan 49 Snyder is good with many things. His costumes are always interesting and he has flashes of brilliance, especially visually, but I don't think the problem is people not understanding Snyder. I think the problem is Snyder not understanding the source material. Most evident in Watchmen.
Hi, thanks for telling me all about this movie. I know now, for sure, that I am going to totally stick to reading the book version, or all three book versions. That is the biggest problem with movies, there isn't enough time to properly develop the characters, or the backstory, so you wind up feeling like things are happening at random.
