    Another outstanding excursion into begonias. The knowledge-sharing by Stephen, Matthew and Craig is without rival on UA-cam.

    Yes, I gained knowledge. I bought three pretty Begonias April 2023 and am now surprised at how well they are doing considering I'm an avid over waterer. I'm grateful the cane Begonias I have in hanging baskets down one side of the house are established and not needing to be watered too often. I only water them when the Impatients planted with them are drooping. My Mum gave me a long pot of a rhizomatous Begonia and as pieces have broken off I've stuck in terracotta pots and turned into gorgeous plants of which I've given a few away to lucky people. Now I know what I should plant into my dozens of now empty terracotta pots. I want to go to the annual Flower Festival again considering it is April again. I hope I haven't missed it. Thanks for sharing. Adelaide South Australia.

      I went on the website Saturday morning I think it was and asked my sister Debbie to order four plants for me. Because Debbie ordered some plants too we got free postage which was totally awesome. I picked up my plants from my sister's home yesterday afternoon and couldn't believe how quickly they arrived express post. When I got to my home I planted two of the plants as well as an extra four pieces as a bonus. I hope they take considering it is autumn and not summer. I knew exactly where I wanted to plant the green flowering Daylily. Today I have to find a spot for each of the other two plants. Debbie bought one the same as one of mine and both Mum and Debbie want a cutting in the future of the other plant. Ooh, I just decided I know exactly where to plant it.
      Was awesome to find quite a variety of plants, to chose from. There were many others that I would like. I'm jinxed with mail order plants unfortunately so that's one of the reasons I get my sister Debbie to order them for me and I knew she too would be grateful to check out the nursery website. Makes me wonder if she has ever ordered anything from Dicksonia Rare Plants nursery considering Debbie loves rare plants and she loves Australian natives. I'm sure I've mentioned it to her in the past. I know, I shall share this very helpful video to her right now.

    I’ve had a long love affair with cane begonias thanks to my mother who loves them. They are incredibly easy to propagate in water or in a soil mix. Such rewarding plants and such flower beauty between November and April in Melbourne

    My Grandad was in a begonia society here in the UK. He liked the tuberous ones and some of them can get quite expensive!

    Hi Mathew & Stephen. Thanks for a fabulous video and all the great information you’ve provided. I love begonias for their beautiful leaves and the flowers are a bonus. My first love is orchids but if I had the available space I’d have a lot more begonias.

      @@thehorti-culturalists thanks for your reply. Couldn’t resist a further comment….I often think of replacing my husband with more plants but I’ve come to rely on him too much to let him go. 💚

      sow on the surface of. well drained commercial potting mix and keep in a bright but not sunny site. A pane of glass over the pot could be useful. Regards Stephen

    Hello Stephen
    I have, I think a Gryphon Begonia that is 1.2m x.800 - it’s getting way too big and is dominating the room. Can I cut it back in early summer or should I take a cutting and grow a new one?

    • @thehorti-culturalists
      @thehorti-culturalists  9 місяців тому

      If it is really that big then cuttings or dividing it would be the answer. Regards Stephen
