I’ve had one for 3 weeks now. Love it. The real problem is there is no reason to look for any other EDC knives and I’m a knife guy. Kind of a bummer. It’s essentially the “perfect” all around EDC.
Did you ever develop a gritty action as a result of a poorly heat treated/coated titanium lockbar? Benchmade lets out some lemons that get so stiff they can barely close because of wear between the titanium and the steel.
@@ringbadingbingrading1181 nope. This bench made is the only one I own. I’m actually not a big benchmade fan In general. I would add that aluminum scales would be a nice option like the bailout. Not sure why they haven’t done that.
@@jagpilotohio There is an aluminum varient they're releasing, but I think I'll stick with CF elite. I'm quite the avid backpacker and this seems like it was made perfectly for me. I'm a very big Spyderco guy but I figure I should branch out into other companies. I just hope I get a good lockbar! Some of them are real fails and it can get so bad it's difficult to close the knife. I'm glad you haven't had any issues!
The Bugout is such a cool knife. It’s slim, sexy and smooth as silk. Two months ago I had none. Today I’m waiting on my 2nd and 3rd in the mail as we speak.
There's another important detail! On the older ones, I think the blade coating was TiNitride, but the hardware was DLC coated (much harder..the best possible coating!) On the CF Elite version the hardware AND the blade are now DLC coated!
Great review. Thank you. I bought one today based on your video after holding off for a long time. I’m really enjoying it so far and I look forward to many years of use from it.
Well I just got one today and I've been looking around for a while for a decent knife. I'm going to keep this one. And I feel much better after I watched this review
The new Bugout integrates Benchmade’s new CF-Elite handle material. This carbon fiber-reinforced nylon polymer is slightly lighter (17%) than the previous Bugout handle. But it has a claimed 50% greater rigidity than those with the Grivory handle.
Dante Martin 🤔 , I had the DLT exclusive Para 3 LW in M390 with the red frn scales and it's action wasn't smooth or drop shutty at all. It was rather stiff.
@@everydaycarry1328 you still may have to tune it. I take all of my knives apart, mainly for fun. But it does have a pivot bushing. Mine dropped shut out of the box. (Bd1n)
Great video. Also, FYI, I’m happy to lend you my black bladed drop point Hogue Deka for the Battle to the Death if you don’t want to buy a new one. Just don’t lose the box 😜
Thanks for another great review! I picked this one up at the NJ Outdoor show last week - hope it isn't a fake given what you said about availability. It really is a great knife, great blade, and the grips are fine - ont much flex at all. Makes me want to look at more Benchmade blades......
Nice review, glad that you did this cause this is a Bugout that I would consider. The blackout color scheme is sick but being more expensive is kinda meh. The color schemes on the new mini Bugout look pretty nice too looking forward to your review on that in the future.
I can’t find your battle to the death between the cf elite and the spy 27 I’m torn between the two as my first high end edc knife as someone who’s new to knifes what would you recommend
Thanks for the comparision video. I wonder if they make the 535BK-2 differently now? Because I just bought one and I can definitely squeeze the CF-Elite scales together til they touch. Bought it from Knives Ship Free so I doubt it's a fake Benchmade. My Blade HQ exclusive G10 and aluminum Bugouts are much much stiffer. You don't seem like a soy boy, so I'm not sure why you can't squeeze them together LOL.
Oh Dicey. $20 more for a different color good value? Marketing team at BM did a good job this time at least. Like you said, black looks more expensive.
So, I went and picked up a cf elite bugout today. Has anyone else had the most horrible lock stick issue. Every time I close the knife it feels like sand paper. Gotta say if I posted UA-cam videos I'd definitely show that. Did I get a lemon or are the all gritty af???
@@SliceyDicey pretty sure I figured out why I was getting the gritty feeling. The day after I got the 535bk2 I went and picked up an o.g. 535. It was smooth as could be. Until I over oiled the pivot. It got on the tang and axis bar. Causing the sand paper feeling. Took a few days but the 535bk2 is now silky smooth. (Took a few hundred open/close cycles) The 535 isn't quite there but it's coming along.
The BMs that have the screws in the stop pin kill the whole design for me. With so many knife designs/companies out there I’m ok with having such subtle deal breaking aspects.
It's a spyderco exclusive. I saw a video where I think it was Eric from spyderco said he isn't giving out the 'formula', and said he would wait on the community to give their feedback. There is a video out there that gives the formula, but who knows how accurate that is. Even if it is, it shows the same amount of cobalt than the VG-10, so not everyone is on the same page yet. If I had a guess, it would be something comparable or better than m390, but that's a guess and only what I would do if I had anything to do with spyderco.
I don't agree that 20 bucks makes this a good price or even good value I think Benchmade was trending too high for their prices before and the Bugout release and Griptillian steel change brought them back from the edge and I think this pushes them right back over into bad value town for me. I'll admit I don't put too much stock in the "made in USA" schtick though so maybe if you do it makes sense I dunno.
I don't get this one...I love the Bugout (modded mine with Ti scales) but those still look like plastic handle scales to me, and this seems like a cash grab on the part of Benchmade.
Mammoth Cave, KFC, Kentucky Derby, My Old Kentucky Home, Bourbon(technically the only place Bourbon can come from), the Noxema girl(Rebecca Gayheart), Jennifer Lawrence, and the 101st Airborne Division(Air Assault)!
I think you’re confusing ‘light weight’ with ‘cheap’. It would be like you getting out of your 1996 Dodge Ram into a Ferrari F8 Spyder and saying it feels ‘cheap’.

Just found out they sell one of these at my local gunshop. Heading there today to buy one👍🏻
first blacked out knife I'm interested in. Looks cool. Benchmade's answer to the blacked out para 3.
Great review. Thank you. I bought one today based on your video after holding off for a long time. I’m really enjoying it so far and I look forward to many years of use from it.
I literally just ordered a bug out elite and a para 3 a couple hours ago partaking in some conformation bias.
Which one do you enjoy more
Mine arrived perfect. Blade centering, crazy sharp, ZERO blade play literally zero, not to stiff and will drop shut already. I like it a lot.

Not bad. I was hoping for a G10/20CV this year, maybe in the custom shop. 🤞
Instantly on the wishlist! Great review as always!
It would be better if they greyed out the BM logo on the blade. Nice review.
I would like to see a CQI version (pivot bushing ) of the Para 3 lightweight in LC200n!!
Same here for sure!
Para 3 Lightweight already has a pivot bushing. Just not LC200N yet.

Pretty cool vid. Can’t wait for the future comparisons you have in mind 🤗 specially one with a black Deka

The other product change is the blade coating itself as it is now DLC as opposed to chromium nitride on the original.

I'll probably get a bugout next summer. The winter has me more interested in murdery blades.
Yep. Winter does that to me also!
Aluminum scales like the 940, and I would buy, heck ya!!!
That’s kinda the new Bailout.
Nice call. I dont get the hate in the community for aluminum. Light, strong, rigid. Makes a great handle material.
AWT for 80 bucks

Does the 535GRY-1 have the same improved extra fancy plastic like this 535BK-2 has?
Yea...I liked the looks of it better than the original, of course I do. Blacked out rocks...

I say swap the blade and thumb studs. Satin blade, black studs and handle. Yep that’s the one.

I just ordered the 535 elite and the cost was 170.00 from bench made not the 144.00

VG10 with added cobalt.

Not really. More for an every day carry, opening boxes, cutting zip ties, etc.
Can someone tell me what’s so special about this knife. Got it for Christmas and I just found out how expensive it is lol omg
Doesn’t CF stand for carbon fiber?
Yes. It's carbon fiber reinforced nylon instead of regular fiber reinforced nylon.

How dare a company try and make money, absolutely abhorrent
Here itś $255.
They need to combine the features now of the Para 3 and the Bugout. Oh, wait, that would be a GANZO.....
