GIANT 12 Foot Gator on Lake Okeechobee! Hunting Swamp Lizards in South Florida

- Lake Okeechobee is the largest freshwater lake in all of Florida. It is also home to some really LARGE alligators. Gator season opens every year in Florida on August 15th and many outdoor enthusiasts hit Florida's lakes, canals and swamp in search of these freshwater dinosaurs. Those who want to hunt gators must apply for tags with the FWC (Florida Wildlife Commission) when the application process opens in the summer. The demand for tags is much higher than the supply making it difficult to get drawn. So, when the opportunity presented itself to ride along with Corey McConaughey and Timmy Maddock Jr. for a gator hunt on south Lake Okeechobee, I didn't hesitate. My first and last gator adventure prior to this one was several years before with my two boys when they were much younger. We fished at night running around from an airboat on the lake. It was an absolute blast! Both of my boys harvested their first gators, a memory we will share together forever!
When I hopped on the Corey's duck boat for this trip and took a look at the gear, I knew these guys knew what they were doing. What I didn't know, was the adrenaline rush we had in store later in the day! Watch the video all the way through and keep your hands and feet inside the boat at all times. You're in for a WILD ride! Nice gator, but you guys might want to reread your pamphlet on the catch and release section and edit the first part of the video: "Catch-and-release is only allowed when using snatch hooks, handheld devices with an adjustable catch loop such as a catch pole. Therefore, if you are using any other method of take, make sure capture attempts are limited to only those alligators you want to keep."
They were planning to keep it until they got it boat side and realized it was missing 3 feet of tail
@@fishbluewater it doesn't matter how much tail it's missing. Once the gator swallows your bait you are legally required to harvest him unless he spits the bait or breaks of.
That's one of the downsides to baiting. You have to be sure it's the gator you want.
You run a high risk of damaging the paletal valve in his throat. Once you damage that valve the gator will eventually drown. I've seen 2 gators dead and floating this season with bait lines in their mouths.
I would definitely brush up on the laws. FWC officers love to sit off in the cattails with a pair of binoculars and quietly watch hunts
@@bumpnrunracing8163 they don't have to setup in the cattails when it's put on youtube, lol.
Your 100% correct!! Definitely right in black-and-white listed in the rulebook.
Absolute giant!
We’re you not prepared or do you not have the stick loaded for safety reasons?
Also, woulda been nice to know length of the gator. Regardless, it’s was a nice one.
Was a guest on the boat but I would say safety. We missed the tape on video but it was a couple inches shy of 12 feet
How do you sink a gaff into the jawl then let it go. If your gonna hunt gators in FL no the dam laws. Piss pour practice from your guide also.
Not from Florida, never knew you could fish them like that. Awesome! Also would love to see if you guys eat the gator. Catch and cook too please!
Gator tail is some great eating! They sold this one to the processor though
Got tags for the first time in my life this year and was looking through videos of how to harvest an alligator ethically at least I found out how not to do it
So you're saying you would not cast on that gator if you saw it laid up on the shore?? lol
@@fishbluewater I have no problem with that, what I do have a problem with is that you gaffed the first gator in the head and drug it on the boat only to release it after y’all noticed it was missing some of its tail and the only reason I can see as to why you did that is because you couldn’t have made your “Giant 12 foot gator” thumbnail
The cast on the second gator was pretty damn cool actually
wow
Удачной охоты на Аллигаторов
Catch and release...... Catch and eat!!!
Wau josss 🙏
Does this hurt the gator ?
Does what hurt the gator?
How come you don't show how you hook him y'all seem to skip that part. I think you guys 🤔 Don't look like y'all are organize.good way to get hurt 👍
The video shows how he got hooked. Casted at it with a snatch hook while it was laid up on a sandbar sunning. Organized? It’s a 12 foot gator not 6 foot. Whole different game when you tie into one that big
