Elden Ring was my first souls game too! The experience I am having with the DLC is basically the same experience I had as a brand new baby souls player at the beginning of the base game haha. Everything was terrifying and I felt like there was no way I'm going to be able to play this game. But I've made it all the way to the final boss in the DLC and still working on it, probably going to go hunt some more fragments and blessings. But yeah I really don't think it is too hard. It is definitely fair to say it's super challenging but that's what souls games are all about, right? I'm really loving it. Especially the lore.

The beauty about elden ring much like baldurs gate 3 is that the player willing chooses its diffuclty slider, the DLC offers stacking dmg and negation buff gained from scadutree fragements. Basically the game incentives you to explore same for the ashes to buff summons which is again an optional part of the journey. You can do the same in BG3 just explore act 1 area, load up on explosive barrels to make challenging encounters like goblin camp underleveld an complete joke, all the way to act 2 story bosses like balthazar or endboss like elder brain with fireworks gained in act 3... or do the journey solo no summons or without cheese like there so many ways to play the game and find enjoyment through.

The point is to enjoy the journey, it took me half year to finish with breaks. I put some rules on myself to enjoy the challenge more but that's not for everyone and there's no right way to play. Enjoy

Elden Ring and Souls(FromSoftware) are a gaming experience like no other. This DLC is just the next step. They will continue to break you down mentally, make you hit rock bottom, maybe even make you give up. But when you overcome, when you rise to that challenge, when you come back, MAN there is nothing like it. This game delivers on that uniquely Dark Souls experience. Just like every RPG, you can farm and explore to find a bunch of things that will make the fight easier, that’s your slider, and it’s a hell of a lot better and more immersive than having it be a click and drag in the UI. I wish every game handled difficulty like FromSoft does, you can go in raw on fights or dungeons or whatever for a truly hard experience or you can explore and research and gear up to handicap the boss. Kinda something I always liked with raiding and mythic raiding in WoW. Your group is either up to the challenge or you’re not and you will need to get some gear going to overcome the content.(boss nerfs aside, those aren’t really a ‘part’ of the game loop)

“The DLC is too hard” but the DLC has summons that people REFUSE to use simply because they “Bought the DLC for a challenge

Don’t even need summons, just need to be patient. Old school souls vibes if you choose to play it that way….. a lot of new comers are getting their first taste of a fromsoft dlc.

Glad to see you hop into ER. Cant wait till you look into the lore, youre gonna be amazed. Also DLC is a step up for sure, but on top of that theres a new progression mechanic in the shadow realm that doesnt exist in base game that a lot of people arent even investing in and its equivalent to missing sacred tears and erdtree seeds in base game. If you like to explore and adventure and just enjoy youll have no issue the game rewards you heavily

Facts. People wanna rush everything then cry cause they're not able to kill bosses and get one spotted while if u play the game and get this new mechanic item its just as easy as the base game. Just shows this new generation of gamers are super dumb sadly.

Love the take man. Ive been a lifelong Souls fan. Had kingsfield on pc when i was like 3 years old. Well my dad did and i would just mess around but yeah.
You get it man. You get it perfectly. I just wish orher people would be able to understand. People just dont wanna be held accountable for anything anymore. If they suck at something, well that something discriminates against them. No, thats not how it works bud. You gotta learn and adapt. Overcome it through trial and error, and good ol hard work. Because nothing in life is ever truly easy. Not to betoo philosophical but Souls games are a great representation of that. You find a boss that seems insurmountable. You have the tools to change it. But do you have the dedication and understanding?

I consider myself a Souls Veteran. Killed all the bosses in Souls and ER.
When I got DS3 I just finished DS2 with all dlc a week before. I was ready. I got wrecked. It took me 2 days to get to Vordt and 1 more day to kill him. It took a few days to adjust to speed of the game etc.
By the time I killed Midir I was feeling myself. When I killed Melenia I knew I got gud. That was like May 2022.
Now I'm back got killed by the dancing beast a ton of times but I know personally I am not at the level now I was 2 years ago. It's going to take a good few days to adjust.
I don't understand these people jumping in getting wrecked and raging.
I can SSSS DMC 5 missions but I haven't done it in years and probably would need some practice before doing it again.

My hand-eye coordination is crap AF, so ER is not intuitive for me. Nevertheless, I'd never give it a poor review based on that. It's objectively a fantastic game. Just difficult for me. I streamed playing it for a couple hours one night, and chat was so supportive and helpful. Giving me tips and everything. A lot of fun, even when I'm failing hard.

Elden Ring was my first souls game - it was hard, not going to sugarcoat it. Especially the later bosses were insane, locking me down for hours on some of them. And yet I have over 200 hours logged into it and 100% completion.
It was hard - but beating it was infinitely satisfying.
And no, I don't even pvp. If you are a pvp player this game is probably even better.

As a long time vet of the soulsborne series I’ll say this:
Don’t worry about the debate, this literally happens every time something new drops and it always ends the same. Us vets just have to viciously hold the line till they give up.
The young tarnished are truly going through what’s called “the dark souls experience” now. They just need to be humbled, and realize they need to change things up than thinking they can steamroll the dlc.

The game is hardest when you don't allow the game, and allow yourself, to teach you about your mistakes. If you keep ramming at it the same way you're bound to fail over and over again. Elden Ring on top of that gives you more than enough options to make it through everything. People who are complaining about this is used to getting what they want without working too hard for it. There's nothing wrong with the difficulty. Just get better.

Dude, I've played all their games and beat all their DLCs. And this DLC is absurd. Is it doable? Yes. Is it reasonable? Or fun? Well... sooooometimes. There are like 5 bosses in the DLC that could have been final bosses and I would have believed it.
The problem is people's experience are going to vary drastically. Some players are simply better than others. If you're a good player this might be the perfect experience. If you're not then this can be miserable. One person might be running a mimic tear bleed build that they took from a guide that trivializes all the bosses. Another person might just be running the build they started with. Totally different experiences. Some players enjoy taking 80 attempts on a boss, they play for mastery. Other people play for the more intuitive play of DS3 and Bloodborne meaning bosses are challenging but you dont need to master them so completely and know their movesets so intimately. You just have to learn them "good enough" to squeeze out a win. There was an amount of act-react-act-react as opposed to memorizing every quirks and combo.
I think its clear From is trying to cater to too many demographics at once. The sweaties and pros get to solo the bosses while broken builds and summons are there to accommodate the average player and the casual. But thats the problem because again their experience is worlds apart. Summons often trivialize a boss; spamming an ash of war while they take aggro. So you still miss out on the experience. Or even lets say you use a broken build and now its like you dont get to experience the fight as you have in previous games. You hit trade, you heal through the damage and brute force your way through the fight. Your final option is to grit your teeth and bear it. But again you dont get the desired experience that you've grown to love. You get an oppressive moveset that is out of your skill range and you have to meticulously learn every inch of the fight. And tbh it was miserable. I dont mind frustration Orphan of Kos took me 70 attempts and I love that fight. But there's a point where frustration progresses into a sense of losing any sort of investment. I felt this with Malenia, first and then doubly with the DLC. Like the Twin Moon boss. She felt so spammy to me there were times where I didnt even feel like i was learning her moveset anymore. And then later learning her 2nd phase it became a slog of doing good enough in the first phase to even be able to learn her 2nd phase. By the time I beat her I felt nothing. I wasnt ecstatic like I've felt in the past. I felt dread for the next boss.
And maybe this game just wasnt made for me. Maybe its intended for better players. And thats valid, I guess. Its disappointing. These games have been among my favorites for nearly a decade now. And it feels bad to no longer be among their intended audience. Ive always maintained that MOST people can get into these games if they give themselves a chance. I feel like that isnt as true as it used to be.
I know this sounds rather whiny. And too an extent it is. But I think indo have an amount of authority on this being someone who has played all their games and beat most of the DLC. Im not a scrub who refused to learn or be patient. I truly gave the final boss a good effort to but thats the end of the line for me.

@@austin0_bandit05 I think you’re making assumptions about the goal of the DLC. I’m stoked that the DLC feels like those secret endgame nightmare mode bosses with OP loot. Souls are known to, since day 1 of demon souls, break you down. Beat you to a pulp over and over again, until you rise to the challenge and overcome the boss before you. As we continue to play each game and DLC we are getting better and better at mastering boss fights, to the point where hardly any boss breaks you down like the whole of your first souls game did. This DLC delivers on making you feel tarnished in a doomed world. Where you will learn how the boss works, ever tell, every move, every voice line. If it’s too much for you, that’s fair, its DLC and it’s optional content. There’s plenty of goodies and cool stuff to experience in it without killing those bosses. BUT if you want to rise to the challenge and find company in misery with the other players in the community in the same way that games of souls in the past did, this delivers. Adapt and overcome, you have it in you. Even if you have to give everything, til there’s nothing left and you feel nothing, overcome it. Think on your experience, really think about what you went through afterwards. How many games can give you this experience? An experience you know another player went through if they killed that same boss, because there is no difficulty slider. Melania is ‘known,’ and she is felt. This, I believe, was the goal of these DLC bosses, to deliver on what FromSoftware uniquely delivers on compared to any other game. It is both beautiful and horrific, it’s an incredible gaming experience and simulation we can put our mind through without any risk of real bodily or mental harm. Others try, but there’s nothing quite like it.

@@Azari_D I appreciate your response but a lot of it is just feel-good bull shittery. I've already gotten as far as the final boss and have beaten every DLC since Demon Souls. I KNOW why they're great. I didn't just suddenly forget. Even as recently as AC6 I had to go through the same process and had a good time.
Very simply the DLC is "good" but that will depend on the individual for which it can be "bad". And while my experience was somewhat negative I wont dispute its merits. Its very simple. This DLC wasnt made for me or people like me. If it wasn't so then there wouldn't be so many souls veterans dropping out

Maybe it isn't that it's "too hard", per se, but the design philosophy is annoying and unfun for me.
You mentioned Asmon, but he basically had to cheese the last few bosses, and even long-time creators who are defending the dlc (i.e. Scott Jund, Oro) are suggesting the final boss is a bit too punishing.

Elden Ring is as easy or as hard as you make it. It has a lot of mechanics to mitigate the difficulty, you can buff yourself in multiple ways, you can find better ashes of war, you can find spirit ash summons and more importantly you can summon other players. The whole souls like thing is about cooperation. You have player messages everywhere giving tips, if you're struggling then you shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. No one would know about LetMeSoloHer otherwise. People need to dump some ego.

Love the shit out of Elden Ring and hell around the announcement of the DLC I was told I needed to beat a certain boss to even access the DLC, which is fine, and when I went back, I realized I had missed nearly 40 percent of the content. and I thought I had done a pretty good job with exploration and the boss needed for said DLC was one of those things, well RIP. Got myself to 92 and had finally beaten that SOB Mohg just in time for the DLC (grand total of 63 deaths just for that bastard) and boy did I feel great after doing so. For Elden Ring the delicate balance between fun factor and difficulty is on point. For me personally I knew that if I fucked up on a fight, I knew it was all on me. However, when I started to play Erd tree something just felt off. Now again I'm all for difficulty in games, for crying out loud I picked Bandit as my class in Elden Ring. But something was off as if that delicate balance was thrown out the window for the sake of difficulty. So, in contrast I understand both arguments "GET GUD" and "TOO HARD" crowds, heck I lean more so on the "GET GUD" side of the argument but damn even I have to admit that the difficulty spike is a little too aggressive even for me but that is not going to stop me from playing. Loving the civil discussion around this game and people sharing their experiences. We need more levelheaded voices in the gaming space like yourself. You got a sub from me.
