- Toyota Prado 90 Series // Long Range Fuel Tank Install
After picking up a bargain from a great Instagram follower and with Antoni and Kirk doing 99% of the work, haha, I finally get my long range fuel tank installed in the Toyota Prado 90 Series (aka Nightmare 90).

Best mod ever ! Extended range and the extra weight is below the center of gravity right where you want it.
That extra range is ideal here in Australia.
How it goes off-road is something I need to test, but it doesn't hang down much lower than the original tank. 👍
I was looking at getting a replacement long range fuel tank for my 120 series Prado (petrol). Currently has 2 tanks with a combined capacity of 180 litres. As it is petrol, for extended desert trips need more fuel capacity. Any suggestions where I can get LRF tank. (Brown Davis has stopped manufacturing replacement tanks for the 120.
The issue you'll have with a 120 Prado is your distance til empty won't read correctly with a long range tank.
You could try 4WD Systems as they manufacture tanks still for the 90 series, so I'd assume without looking that they would do it for the 120 series.
Does this replace the main tank but also keep the sub tank? Like in total with that long range tank with sub how many litres is it. Also 4wdsystems doesn't have this tank anymore 😕
Hi Alisha
Yes it replaces the main tank, so the capacity goes from 90L to 155L and still retains the sub tank. The sub tank is 57L from memory, so should give you a 212L capacity.
4WD Systems do the tank still as it's on their website.
The part number for that is FTR143 with a price of $1196.58 + shipping if you're not local.
If they don't have it in stock, they'll have to manufacture it.
Give them a call and ask for Alex. 👍
Great idea when traveling with desiel mates aha
I used 5L less across the Simpson Desert than the accompanying 90 series Diesel that was with me and that was on the standard tank.
@@OzTrax4X4 that's good going, these go so good on the sand
Most definitely do 👌
Would this also work for a diesel?
I believe it would be a similar process, the one major difference is the diesel doesn't have a fuel pump in the tank from memory.
Hey Mate i have the 90 series and I'm having an issue with the SUB TANK. Its no longer transferring fuel even after a new solenoid replacement. I have been told it could possibly be a blockage or the fuel pump in the sub-tank is shit itself?
Its a full Sub tank at the moment the dash light comes on the solenoid is working but nothing is transferring. ANy suggestions
Hey Jon
Does it run when you switch to the sub tank or does it stall?
@@OzTrax4X4 the fuel isn't being transferred. It's just using the main. I had half a tank of main and a full sub.......the last 2 days it's dropped a quarter on the main and not moved on the sub even tho the sub switch has been on the whole Time
@@Krazy7mx Have you fitted a brand new fuel tank switching solenoid or a secondhand one?
Has it worked previously?
The petrol V6 has a fuel pump in both the main and sub tanks.
I'd assume that it's not switching due to a faulty fuel tank switching solenoid or the fact it may not be picking up from the sub-tank at all due to a failed fuel pump.
Are all the hoses on the correct inlets/outlets?
@@Krazy7mx There could also be the fact of a failed sub-tank switch too not triggering the solenoid.
With the vehicle on accessories, and switching the sub-tank switch on and off, the solenoid should have an audible click.
@@OzTrax4X4 SOrry for the late reply just got back form the Kimberley. I will try this its a brand new solenoid so I hope that its not a dud. Ive previously had a second hand one that was working we tested it before installing on the car. installed it and then it didn't work, installed a new one and same thing so I don't think the solenoid is the issue.
