This is so true as someone whos been both a biomed and a vendor i have always recieved calls to do a PM on equipment that has been expired for at least a month. When i try to PM the equipment before the expiration the department can't make the equipment available. Its only when the equipment defects or when there's a joint commission that i now need to come in. Funny thing is i covered a territory that spanned across 9 states lol. Now they have to wait.
It's the same as a customer not bring his/her car to the dealer for the regular service interval maintenance, and keeps driving and cause damage to the car.
I remember I had a conversation with a nurse once that went something like this: "Hey sorry, I'm with Biomed, can you help me find this piece of equipment in your area for the PM?" "No sorry, I'm with Nursing, and I have to care of patients in the AM." 😆
I know this is a stupid question but what are pm’s? I’ve heard the terminology some in my electronics class but I have no idea what it even stands for/means.
For the really stingey departments, some biomeds will say there is a recall out on a piece of equipment that is due for PM's to get them to hand it over or get into a room.
Standard phone conversation as follows. Hi can I come in and service your equipment. “Yes after 8pm before 7am or on Sunday”, to which I reply, will you be there?

We started teaching clinical staff that PM completion is a shared responsibility. We got a lot more accomplished once we changed our attitudes.
In my experience in healthcare, clinical managers see about a week ahead. 2 weeks tops when it’s JAHCO time.

Preventive Maintenance. Which is 80% of a biomed's job. It's all about numbers and metrics to make bean counters happy.
@@BetterBiomedChannel Thank you! Better to ask on here lol. I always thought maybe product maintenance but I was like I should be sure.
@@BetterBiomedChannel thsnkyou
Thankyou for telling us

I just put Device In Use. If they don't allow biomed to get access to it, too bad.
I avoid the drama and won't beg anyone for equipment.

If it was me, yes. I would be there.
