I have recently started riding side saddle and I have to say, I am so much more confident doing a canter side saddle, than I am riding astride. I love the side saddle!
I appreciate her mentioning the uncomfortable side of this, the Victorian era was stylish and charming but also very puritan and inequal for women. But now that things are getting better we can celebrate the grace of the past without its negative connotations.
I have recently started riding sidesaddle and it's quite challenging. You really need to have strong right oblique muscles. As a long-time rider (astride) I find the sidesaddle riding such an amazing new experience.
6:03 😳 I was watching downton abbey just now and wanted to know how Lady Mary was sitting when she rode so I UA-camd it and clicked on this video. Wow! How apropos.
oh wow, riding a side-saddle is so oppressive!! their framing is interesting to say the least. I would love to master that skill. it looks so beautiful.
Ok I was wondering when did woman started to ride a horse as we do now. ( I've seen cartoons where sometimes woman rode regular, sometimes sidesaddle. ) Ty in advance for your feedback
Side saddle looks anything but elegant, like a black sack of potatoes wobbling along up there. The first rider has problems keeping centre as we can graphically see, she keeps having to change position, haul herself over which is playing havoc with the horses back and balance.
Perhaps it's because she does it for recreational purposes? Look up some other sidesaddle videos, such as national level shows, with people who know what they're doing and people who have been riding sidesaddle for multiple years. She may have to be 'changing position' because the girth isn't tight enough which is her fault or her trainer's fault. There's multiple reasons behind different things.
True. However something like girth slipping wouldn't be happening sitting astride because the weight of the rider is centre on the horses back. Does the girth need to be extra tight because that's also not ideal for a horse. I think it's a silly antiquated way of riding that's not of any benefit to the horses ability or natural way of going......yes I've seen other videos, if you watch riders jumping side saddle the horse has to make so much more of an effort with that dead weight on its back. Of course it's no coincidence that no one rides side saddle at upper levels in equestrian sports. If there was any advantage to doing so make no mistake they would be. It's charming in a backwards kind of way yes so maybe the practise should be limited to showing, no jumping or real work.
In the UK there is a law that made fox hunting with hounds and horses illegal back in 2004, “Hunting” is referring to trail hunts which means a pre laid scent that the hounds follow and no animal is hurt. If you are referring to hunting in the conventional way then hunting is very needed for pest and predator control etc and the benefits of Hunting are very simple and easy to understand. If you are not aware of them I will happily explain them as I work in conservation and I hunt.

Empress Sisi would have been proud of them from heaven.
I had to dress up as a Victorian side saddle woman for a demo at my riding school lol 😂 then I rode side saddle and it was so much fun!!
I ride sidesaddle, as a www1 re-enactor, and have just started to jump sidesaddle. Definitely very different to astride!

I would love to have a go riding side saddle.
Imagine riding a horse with a side saddle and wearing a special gown for riding?

i always joked about one whos manhood was in question that they rode sidesaddle
The horses seem like they're struggling to keep their balance.
That must be so difficult for the horses balance.
Carolyn Brt Not really. If done properly, you sit perfectly centered, just like when riding astride.
@@PoisonTheOgres well... riding side saddle on a horse for all ladies can be a hard balance.
There are plenty of us still out there riding this way.
Where abouts is Rebecca’s yard? I’d love to have a side saddle lesson with her x
That's really ladylike to ride a horse with a side saddle.
Or what date it aired?
I would just slide off if I rode side saddle! I think I’ll stick to regular hunt seat
Do you know where this clip was sourced?
Back in 2013/14 on BBC4. Henry now belongs to my friend.
