Thank you for posting this! So rare to see personal video that is shot with a true photographer’s eye....you focus on the great features of the Cathedral and hold the shot so we viewers can really have the time to see the incredible architectural details.....we can even see the pollution pitting on the gargoyles! We as viewers really get to appreciate the fine details of this beautiful world landmark with your film. During the coverage of the devastating fire, French restoration experts were mentioning that films taken such as yours, 3D scans, etc are being used by the restorers to rebuild this historic and cultural treasure. Many thanks again for sharing this great video.
Thank you Robert. That's a great view from the top. I did not go up the towers, and cannot believe the amount of detail up on the roof that I never really noticed when I visited there years ago. Now that it's been seriously damaged, your footage of the Cathedral is ever more significant. Paris is truly a beautiful city only rivaled by Rome. London has become an amusement park.
Thank you for capturing so many details (and fantastic views) in high resolution. I've been to the Cathedral but didn't have a chance to ascend to the outer balconies.
In the three times I have visited the cathedral I took loads of pictures. Glad I did. Going to take a lot of work to get it back to the way it was before. So sad.
Well done. I am so glad you captured all of this beauty before it was lost. This must be a treasured memory for you. I have still pictures stored somewhere from my Paris break 2 years ago. I am not sure if I UA-camd it.
Was the Spire made principally of wood. During the fire, it seemed to have no resistance to the flames; the spire appeared to be splinter wood, no metal. So, I wonder.
@@rogerd4559 There has always been a spire on the cathedral. But the spire destroyed in the fire was designed and built in the 19th century. Yes, the wood was old, but not 1000 years old.
Almost like fodder for conspiracy theorists, the statues were conveniently removed before the fire. According to various reports, they have been hidden in a undisclosed location in southern France.
how did the masons get their statues of people, gargoyles, and grotesques to balance on pedestals or leaning over the buildings at such acute angles? especially the gargoyles since i assume they had to carve them separately from the cathedral.
Gargoyles were common in Gothic architecture. They reminded illiterate people of the punishment that awaited unrepentant sinners. They also served a practical purpose of funneling rainwater away from the cathedral walls.
Keep it in perspective. The spire that was destroyed was from the 19th century. It was not original to the 12th century cathedral. The French may restore the 19th century spire, but more likely, they will substitute a more modern spire. As long as they keep to the spirit of the 12th century cathedral, I see no problem with it.
I love these high quality videos with no garbage ads. thanks
Unspeakably beautiful ❤☮🖤🌹

The spire was wooden with lead cladding.
it was probably 1000 year old wood

I hope those 12 apostles statues survived, they look like bronze
